POLICY TITLE: Idaho Digital Learning Association POLICY NO:

Classes 602.71
Minidoka County Joint School District # 331 PAGE 1 of 2

Minidoka School District will use IDLA classes to supplement the curriculum, allow students to
take overload classes, allow homebound students to take classes at home, encourage home
school students to take classes that cannot be offered at home, provide a full curriculum at
MCOC, and to provide academic classes as part of the Minico ESL program. District teachers
and administrators will strive to identify those students who will benefit from on-line classes and
to counsel those who will not meet the additional demands of on-line classes accordingly.
Enrollment and funding in IDLA classes is a privilege, not a right. Students may be denied the
privilege of IDLA enrollment if their academic and behavioral record does not indicate the
academic ability and self-discipline needed to succeed in on-line classes. IDLA classes taken
through the Minidoka District are either Minico or MCOC classes and will be so regarded and
recorded on Minidoka District student transcripts.
Payment of IDLA Fees:
A. IDLA Fund Reserve: The District will initially budget $12,000 in an IDLA fund pool to
provide initial funding on the basis of district paid classes for approved students.
1. The initial $12,000 pool will be allocated to authorized students on a first come,
first served basis.
2. If a student has failed his/her last IDLA class taken since September 2003, then
no district funding will be provided and the student must pay IDLA fees until
he/she has successfully completed a successive IDLA class. The building
Principal is responsible to monitor student enrollment to ensure students are
legible.
3. Except for Idaho Youth Ranch and Minico ESL academy students, students may
only enroll in one IDLA class at District expense unless the student has passed an
IDLA class and is not prohibited District funding from part #2 above.
4. Students will be allowed to be enrolled in a maximum of two overload IDLA
classes.
5. All IDLA class enrollments require approval from the department head and high
school principal.
B. If the IDLA Fund Reserve is depleted, the district, with Board approval may fund IDLA
classes to offer up to five classes, not including overloads, for MCOC students who are
approved for IDLA classes and who have not dropped or failed to pass IDLA classes.
C. In case the annual IDLA fund is depleted, the Board of Trustees may decide to provide an
additional pool allocation subject to budgetary restrictions and revenue received from
IDLA classes in the original IDLA fund reserve. If an additional allocation is not
provided, then students will pay their own IDLA fees except for students qualifying in
part B above.

adequate
