THE WALMART FOUNDATION DONATES $100,000 TO THE PUBLIC

SCHOOLS OF HAWAII FOUNDATION
Honolulu, HI -- The Public Schools of Hawaii Foundation (PSHF) received a $100,000 donation
from the Walmart Foundation as part of the Associate Choice Program, an online campaign where
Walmart associates voted directly for a nonprofit to receive funding in their home state. The Public
Schools of Hawaii Foundation will use these funds to implement creative educational programs in
public schools. Their Good Ideas Grants, which awards $3,000 grants to innovative and bold-
thinking teachers in Hawaii’s public schools has provided over $3.2 million in support to public
schools teachers in Hawaii since the inception of the program.
"The financial support provided from the Walmart Associate Choice Program will greatly
assist our Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) initiative in funding Good Idea
Grants to teachers to encourage innovative learning in STEM courses and enhance the overall
STEM experience for our public school students, said Nolan Kawano, president of the Public
Schools of Hawaii Foundation. “We are overwhelmed at the generosity of Hawaii’s Walmart
employees, the Walmart Foundation and appreciate their sincere support of our island community."
The Walmart Foundation’s Hawaii State Giving Council is focused on funding much-needed
community programs, especially those that address hunger, homelessness, education, job training
and other basic needs. The six week Associate Choice voting program awarded $5 million in grants
to statewide organizations across the U.S. last year.
"We’re proud to support non-profit organizations in the communities we serve,” said Angela
Stoner, senior manager for public affairs and government relations for Walmart.”The Associate
Choice and Hawaii State Giving Programs are ways to focus our contributions and make them count
throughout the islands. We’re pleased that Walmart associates chose to support Hawaii’s public
schools and the various other after-school activities, nutrition, job skills and hunger relief
programs.”
