Half Term Work

Create a ‘me in the online age’ project. Place your online

experience within a theoretical context.

Using images from google and/or photos from your past, create a
‘me in the online age’ presentation. This presentation should
communicate how you have interacted with the online world from as
far back as you can remember.

Your project can take one of several different forms:

- create a video, like the one that I showed in class, using

imovie or windows movie maker, with a voice-over;
- create a ‘prezi’ (www.prezi.com) that is saved as a flash file
(must register with your candi email);
- create an online timeline (there are many sites with free
downloads to help you with this) that shows your progression
through the online world;
- create a powerpoint presentation that documents your online
experience.

Your ‘me in the online age’ presentation will be presented in the

first lesson back after half term, and should be no longer than 3
minutes in duration.

Instructions:
Once you have chosen which format your presentation will take, you
need to carefully plan it. Use the questions overleaf to form the
basis of your ‘me in the online age’ presentation - use these
answers to carefully script what you want to say. You should think
about splitting your online experience into 3 sections – 0-6 years; 7-
12 years; 13-18 years.
Once you’ve written your script, you will need to source your
images. It’s useful if you annotate your script, illustrating where
your images will be inserted. Which photos will you use? Which
screen shots will you use? And how will you use Google image
search to help you?

Theorising your presentation

Once you have created your presentation, write 150-200 words on
how your online experience can be theorised, using the ideas that
we’ve encountered on the course so far:
- web 2.0 (mass collaboration; personalisation; freedom);
- wikinomics ideas (prosumer and peer-production);
- Prensky’s digital native/immigrant/dinosaur idea
- Henry Jenkins’s ideas around participatory culture

Bring this writing with you to class.
