Applications are invited from the eligible candidates for enrolment of Ph.D.
programme for the year 2008-09.
Eligibility: Masters degree with 55% marks and 50% marks in case of
SC/ST/Cat.I or physically challenged candidates and in-service
candidates having atleast five years of continuous teaching/research
experience and others on valid grounds.

Prescribed application forms may be obtained in person on payment of

Rs.550/- through DD or Challan in any one of the nationalized banks in favour of
the Finance Officer, Mangalore University from the:
1. Chairman, Concerned P.G. Department, Mangalore University.
2. Asst. Registrar (Academic), Mangalore University, New Administrative
Building, Mangalagangothri.
3. Principal, University College, Hampankatta, Mangalore.
4. Principal, F.M.K.M. Cariappa College, Madikeri

Duly filled in applications in duplicate along with required documents may

be submitted through the recognised research guide to the Chairman of the
concerned P.G. department / Head of the recognized institution / Principal of the
college having affiliation for Ph.D. Programme as the case may be on or before
07.02.2009.

1. Application along with attested copies of P.G. Marks card/Degree Certificate original
Challan/D.D, original No Objection Certificate (if part time) should be submitted through the
recognised guide to the Chairman of the concerned Departments / Head of the Institutions.

2. If the research topic is of an interdisciplinary nature, approval of concerned BOS has to be

obtained.

3. Only the candidates working in University Departments / Recognized Research Institutions /

Colleges/ Full time employee of any organization are permitted to register on part time basis.
Such candidates must produce original NOC from the employer.

4. Applications for Enrolment / Registration for Ph.D. under recognized guides only will be
considered.

5. Fee details:
a) Enrolment Application fee Rs.550/-.
b) Registration fee Rs.5,500/- to be paid only after announcement of date for enrolment
(Rs 2,750/- in respect of SC/ST and Cat. I candidates whose income limits provide for
reimbursement).
c) Foreign nationals and Non-Resident Indians shall pay four times the fee mentioned
above.

6. All correspondence regarding Ph.D. Programme shall be made through the guide and
Chairman of the Department/Head of the Institution.

certificate and other documents should be sent through the proper channel in which the
candidate proposes to work for Ph.D. programme within six months from the date of
enrolment.

2. Ten copies of the Synopsis of the proposed work to be enclosed along with the application.

3. Registration fee Rs. 5,500/- after the announcement of Date of Enrolment has to be
remitted to Mangalore University Fund.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA AS PER REVISED REGULATIONS GOVERNING THE

DEGREE OF DOCTORAL OF PHILOSOPHY

Note:

1. (a) Professors in the Post-Graduate departments of the University, who have Doctoral degree
in the concerned subject / related subject shall be deemed to be the recognized in their
subjects.

(b) Readers in the Post-Graduate departments of the University, who have Doctoral degree in
the relevant subject and have at least one year of independent research experience after
the Ph.D. degree as evidenced by publications in refereed / reputed journals are eligible to
be recognized as guides in their subjects.

(c) Lecturers in the Post-Graduate departments of the University who have doctoral degree
in the relevant subject and at least three years of independent research experience after
the Ph.D. degree as evidenced by publications in refereed / reputed journals are eligible to
be recognized as guides in their subjects.

(d) Teachers / Scientists / Professionals working in recognized institutions and teachers of

constituent / affiliated colleges, recognized as Research Centres by the University, who
have doctoral degree in the concerned / related discipline and at least three years of
independent research experience after the Ph.D. degree as evidenced by publications in
refereed / reputed journals are eligible to be recognised as guides.

(e) The academic staff working in the central facilities of the University such as Library,
USIC, Microtone Centre etc. with five years of research experience and who have doctoral
degree in the relevant subject and at least three years of independent research experience
after the Ph.D. degree as evidenced by publications in referred journals shall also be
eligible to be recognized as guides in their subjects.

2. The application shall be sent through the Chairman of the Concerned Dept./ Head of the
institution with recommendation.
