The following documents are excerpts from noise studies performed and compiled by HGC Engineering for Canadian Hydro Developers. These wind turbine noise studies were performed on two Amaranth Township Residences in the Amaranth Wind Farm. Critically important items to consider before reading: 1.) An acoustic engineering scientific fact is that in order to reduce noise by 6dBA you must double the distance from the receptor. 2.) The Ontario Ministry of The Environment commissioned a study from Ailios Engineering dated December 2007; in this report Ailios concluded sound modelling techniques for wind turbines can be in error by at least 3dB and that the MOE needed to consider this in future noise regulations. 3.) Through the EBR process |, David L. White of Amaranth Ontario solemnly swear | submitted the Ailios paper to the MOE as well as a similar study commissioned by the Nova Scotia Municipalities dated January 2008. This second study was performed by the Jaques Whitform Environmental Engineering firm that discovered up to 15dBA error in wind turbine sound modelling, which was concluded from the work of Dr. Vanden Berg, 2003. 4.) The noise studies you are about to see confirm items 2 & 3 above are true and Amaranth homes are experiencing 3-15dB violations in MOE noise limits. 5.) These noise studies are prior to the GEA. To get the noise levels in compliance, the turbine setbacks would need at minimum to be doubled which confirms the new 550 metre setback is not safe and is not based on science. How did Ontario come up with the 550m setback knowing this information?
