The Executive Board of the
Humboldt Republican Women
Federated is pleased to report that,
in the name of our organization,
we ordered a Squad-Sized Care
Package (for 8-10) to be delivered
to our troops in Iraq, Afghanistan
or Guantanamo Bay to help lift
their morale and let them know, in
no uncertain terms, that we
support them and their mission.
It was ordered through Move
America Forward and the package
contains some or all of the
following: Easter Egg candy, Jelly
Belly jelly beans, gourmet coffee,
Oreo cookies, premium beef
jerky, trail mix, Nascar Bug
buttons (bug repellent), Gatorade,
Simple Green Hand Cleaner, lip
balm, deodorant, special CDs for
the troops, and a note from all of
us expressing our deepest thanks
and heartfelt gratitude to our
military men and women for their
service to us and our country.

California Legislation by Vee Sorenson

State Senator Tony Strickland
wrote an interesting article about
our unneeded California Boards
that we, the taxpayers, support
year after year.
According to Strickland, these
positions are nothing but rampant
patronage doled out to an elite
few by political friends of
legislators. They are often used
as so called “soft landings” for
termed-out legislators, or a reward
for favored staff members,
spouses or other connected
insiders.
He points out one of the
notorious examples is the
California Integrated Waste
Management Board. This panel
consists of 6 people who
implement policies to recycle to
divert waste from our state’s
landfills. This committee and
others receive over $100,000 per
year and meet once or twice a
month.
These boards and commissions
make two and one-half times
more than our school teachers.
They make more than firefighters
and police officers.
Does this make sense when we
are seeing teachers being laid off
and government employees being
furloughed? Does it make sense
when our state is on the verge of
bankruptcy? When we hear
debating on how to trim our
budget, you never hear these
positions mentioned.
A recent Field Poll found
California Legislature’s approval
rating is at 18 per cent. The
disapproval rating is 72 per
cent. A higher percentage of
Californians had a favorable view
of the job Richard Nixon was
doing at the height of the
Watergate scandal.
We in the 1ST Assembly
District should be spreading the
word about these ludicrous
appointments since Wesley
Chesbro’s last job between
elected positions was his
appointment to the Waste
Management Board. It is
impossible to make needed
changes in Sacramento unless
more Republicans are allowed to
run our state once again.
The above information should
urge us all to write letters to the
editor and work extra hard to
bring about change in the next
election.

It's getting so your annual property tax is more than you paid for your home in the first place.

April is the month the green returns to the lawn, the trees and the IRS.

The trouble with today's taxes is that they keep your take-home pay from ever getting there.

A taxpayer recently sent the IRS twenty-five cents with a note saying he understood that he could pay his taxes by the quar-
ter....

The American taxpayers wouldn't object to free transportation for certain government officials if they'd go where we wish
they would.

There is always death and taxes; however death doesn't get worse every year!

It used to be only death and taxes were inevitable. Now, of course, there's shipping and handling, too.

If you make out your income tax return correctly, you go to the poor-house; if you don't, you go to prison (unless you're in
Obama's Cabinet).

Golf is a lot like taxes. You drive hard to get to the green and end up in the hole.

Ever wonder why the IRS calls it Form 1040? Because for every $50 that you earn, you get 10 and they get 40.

Did you ever notice: When you put the 2 words "The" and "IRS" together, it spells "Theirs."

Doing your own income tax return is a lot like a do-it-yourself mugging.

Isn't it appropriate that the month when the taxes are due begins with April Fool's Day and ends with cries of "May Day!"?

It's hard to believe America was founded to avoid high taxation.

Each spring the California Federated Republican Women (CFRW) members and guest students meet
together in Sacramento at the annual Advocacy Workshop to hear Republican leaders speak. This
affords an excellent opportunity to introduce young people to the legislative process.
Early registration is set for May 3 5 to 8 p.m. Registration reopens at 7:30 a.m. May 4. Invited speakers
include Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and State Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner.
Members and students will have the opportunity to tour the Capitol and meet their local representatives.

Okay, so things haven’t been
going all that great. Truth to tell,
things have really been going
lousy. But then again, truth to tell,
there’s almost always something
in which we can find a little
glimmer of sunshine.
Think about it: aren’t you plenty
proud of yourself that you didn’t
vote for Chris Matthew’s right or
left leg thrill and help elect the
Chosen One Barack (Havoc on
the Potomac) Obama? It would
sure be a bummer to look in the
mirror and know you had a share
of the responsibility for the daily
assaults on a country he swore to
protect. Now it’s clear that we
were correct in our suspicions and
it is dismantling he had in mind
all the time.
He and Michelle dropped hints
aplenty along the way. They
expect to render everyone equal
by taking money and assets away
from the rich, increasing welfare
across the land, putting everyone
in the same green cars, sending
everyone to college, controlling
all thermostats, and he’s got
A.C.O.R.N. set to help the census
count all these ordinary folk.
The Obamas have not as yet told
us what their status is going to
equal.
Congress already forced the big
bust to enable everyone to own a
house whether they had a down
payment, a salary, or prospects.
The Godawful truth is that this
project didn’t work any better
than a fast slide to hell is
responsible for shoving us into the
sorry financial mess we’re in now.
A number of congressmen got big
bucks from Freddie, Fanny, AIG,
and others but that was the big
pay-off for that fairy tale.
Obama has essentially stayed in
campaign mode. Air Force One
zooms him to diverse points to
sign a paper he could have signed
in the White House, a photo op
that could have been staged
anywhere, a flight to Arizona for
a 15-minute speech, and, more
recently, a necessary trip to
Europe that he conducted as an
apologist for our country and a
mud slinger at former President
Bush.
