Sign of the Anasazi

Mariah Bourassa: She is a fiercely protective, extraordinarily beautiful widowed mother

of two young teenagers (Jacob and Brittany), who have been kidnapped by secret
government agents. She is employed as alarm monitor at Sonitrol Security, Santa Fe,
NM. Mariah will stop at nothing to secure the release of her children, even if to do so,
she must betray her father, Dr. Marcus Aaron.

Marcus Aaron, Ph.D.: He is a tall, muscular widowed professor of linguistics,

University of Chicago; he speaks 86 languages. Specialist in ancient American Indian
tongues, took an alien spacecraft to prevent corrupt government officials from using it to
achieve nefarious ends. Bent on using the spacecraft to retrieve his grandchildren, whose
release is conditioned upon his delivery of the spacecraft.

Beatrice ("Trixie") Pentov, Ph.D.: She is a petite, elegant and unmarried professor of
linguistics and former flame of Dr. Marcus Aaron. Immediately before disappearing
with the alien spacecraft, Aaron sent Trixie a provocative note and necklace made of
metals unknown to modern science. A coded message is posted inside of it.

Dov Bar Lev: Israeli émigré and naturalized U.S. citizen; dark complexioned,
overworked, a bit pudgy and intense. Employed as Assistant FBI Director in charge of
all criminal investigations nationwide,. Dov quietly begins investigating the Bourassa
kidnapping after learning that his archrival, Assistant FBI Director Darstow is involved.

Keenan Darstow: A high-ranking FBI agent, his jurisdiction is counter-espionage, and

has assumed command of the Bourassa kidnapping without Dov's consent. The
Machiavellian Assistant FBI Director is charged with control of all U.S.
counterespionage and anti-terror operations. He secretly engineers the Bourassa
kidnapping to pressure Dr. Marcus Aaron to return the alien spacecraft Aaron took to
prevent Darstow from using it for evil purposes.

Thomas Kuzmic: Tall, rakishly handsome former FBI agent and Navy SEAL now
working as a private investigator in Santa Fe, NM who is secretly retained by Dov Bar
Lev to investigate Keenan Darstow's "investigation" of the Bourassa kidnapping. He is
the sworn enemy of Keenan Darstow, whom Kuzmic blames for the death of his fiancé.

Andrew Sawyer: Portly, fair-skinned, red-haired tabloid journalist for a London rag
called "Tattler," who believes he has a story so sensational that, once published, will
catapult him from the tabloids to the London Times.

Old Vic and his pet bears, Boris and Waldo: A grizzled old mountain man living alone
with two "pet" grizzly bears (Boris and Waldo) in a log cabin at the edge of remote
Medicine Stone Lake in Northern New Mexico. Adopted father of Thomas Kuzmic and
who, despite his best efforts, gets enmeshed in the Bourassa kidnapping.
Piter Mentol: Terrorist for hire employed by Keenan Darstow to retrieve, by any means
possible, the alien spacecraft taken by Dr. Marcus Aaron.

Michael P. Anthony, M.D.: Balding but fit Santa Fe doctor of internal medicine;
extraordinary gun enthusiast who, together with Trixie Pentov, is determined to solve
the Bourassa kidnapping.

Jacob Bourassa: Young boy kidnapped by Piter Mentol, at Keenan Darstow's bidding,
who manages to frustrate his kidnapper's aims at every turn.

Brittany Bourassa: Jacob's older sister who is tormented by Keenan Darstow in an effort
to frighten her mother, Mariah, into betraying her father, Dr. Marcus Aaron.
