IFR Clearances

IFR and VFR aircraft must give FULL ROUTE if their destination is in ZOA.

N370ME cleared to the Sacramento airport via the San Francisco Eight
Departure, radar vectors Sacramento, direct. That must be included.

Pilot: San Francisco Ground/Clearance, United Two One, ready to copy clearance
IFR to Los Angeles. NOTICE IF THEY SAY THEY HAVE THE INFORMATION OR NOT.

Controller: United Two One, San Francisco Ground/Clearance, clearance on


request standby OR United Two One, then have the clearance. Also may ask after
saying clearance on request “Confirm you have information ____.”

Pilot: Reads back the clearance.

Controller: United Two One read back correct,

IF THE AIRCRAFT DOES NOT HAVE THE ATIS

– Expect runway ____ for departure, wind ____, gusts ____, altimeter
__.__, advise when ready to taxi.

IF THE AIRCRAFT DOES HAVE THE ATIS

– Expect runway ____, for departure, advise when ready to taxi.


Pilot Nav Departure

_____, cleared to the _____ Airport via the ______departure, _____ transition, then as filed,
maintain five thousand, expect Flight Level _____ one zero minutes after departure,
departure frequency ____, squawk ______.

Example:

Northwest Two Two One cleared to the Los Angeles Airport via the Porte Three departure,
Avenal transition, then as filed, maintain five thousand expect Flight Level Two Three Zero,
one zero minutes after departure, departure frequency, one three five point four, squawk
three three one zero.

Hybrid and Pilot Nav Departures have the safe phraseology.

Non-Transition Pilot Nav Departure


_____, cleared to the _____ Airport via the ______departure, direct _____ , then as filed,
maintain five thousand, expect Flight Level _____ one zero minutes after departure,
departure frequency ____, squawk ______.

Example:

Alaska Five Five Eight, cleared to the San Diego Airport via the Offshore Five departure,
direct Los Angeles then as filed, maintain five thousand expect Flight Level four one zero,
one zero minutes after departure, departure frequency one two zero point five, squawk three
three three three.

Radar Vector Departures

_____, cleared to _____ Airport via the ______departure, radar vectors _____, then as filed,
maintain five thousand, expect Flight Level _____ one zero minutes after departure,
departure frequency ____, squawk ______.

Example:

United Two One One, cleared to the Reno Airport via the San Francisco Eight departure, radar
vectors Concord, then as filed, maintain five thousand, expect Flight Level two one zero, one
zero minutes after departure, departure frequency one two one point five, squawk three
three three zero.

Changing Clearances

To change something in an aircraft’s clearance…

Change _____ ( Previous), to read _____ ( New).

Example…

AAL1320, change FL310 to read FL300.

Oceanic Clearances

For oceanic clearances, say the normal clearance to their destination. When read back
correct say…

“______,read back correct, hold for oceanic clearance. Expect clearance in 5 minutes.”

Contact either OAK_CTR or if they are offline, contact ZAK_FSS. If ZAK is offline, do not give
oceanic clearance.

When contacting tell them…

“Req OC, ____, FL____, _____ Oceanic Route. Either ADISN (R463) or BAART (R464), TIMEZ
 Add 42 minutes of current time, and make it Zulu.

If approved tell the pilot…

“_____, cleared oceanic…”

If denied, let them know… usually does not happen.
