Flaws, co-produced by guitarist/backing vocalist
Jamie MacColl's dad Neil (brother of Kirsty, son of
folkie Ewan) and mainman Jack Steadman (lead
vocals, guitar, xylophone, banjo), is almost entirely
acoustic, whether it's the original material or the
covers–there's a version of John Martyn's
"Fairytale Lullaby", while Swansea features lyrics
from the Joanna Newsom track of the same name.
Deeper investigation of BBC's catalogue will reveal
that their single B sides were often acoustic, but
still, hearing a whole album of folk, blues and
country-inflected ballads (apparently inspired by
Harry Smith's Anthology of American Folk Music)
from the NME's Best New Band of 2010 still feels
quite odd.
Crouch End indie sensations Bombay Bicycle Club
have been wandering the indie hinterlands for a
couple of years now since first forming in 2006. It
was a a year wherein they won The Road To V as
mere nippers (well, average age 16), and have
since been picking up a host of admirers such as Jo
Whiley and Zane Lowe along the way. Neither from
India, renowned cyclists or much of a club, the
Bombays have finally got round to a full length
audio experience.
The foursome, lead chiefly by Jack Steadman and
Jamie MacColl (his dad Neil is the late Kirsty's
brother and son of folk legend Ewan) have been
compared as a cross between McFly and The
Strokes which, all things considered, is no bad
thing. If someone was to claim it was the work of
some obscure middle-aged Texans, it would be
deemed possibly the greatest thing ever.

knobs on the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Adele and
Kasabian.

Quiet Sun was a four piece conceived in 1970 at Phil

Diamond Head is Phil Manzanera's first solo album from
1975. For this release, the Roxy Music guitarist enlisted
vocalists like John Wetton (Asia), Robert Wyatt and his
Roxy band mate, Brian Eno. This reissue is packaged in a
digi pack with new photos and a bonus track.
Manzanera's alma mater, Dulwich College; his fellow band
members were Bill MacCormick, bass, Charles Hayward,
drums, vocals and Dave Jarrett, keyboards. After a brief
tour and no record deal in prospect, the band split and
Manzanera joined Roxy Music. By 1974, riding high on the
Roxy wave, Manzanera secured a deal for his debut album
Diamond Head. What he didn't mention was that he had
reformed Quiet Sun and was splitting his daily 12-hour
studio time between the two projects. This reissue of
'Mainstream' is in book form with new photos and
memorabilia as well as bringing together all early demos in
one place.
