Ekadasa Rudrabhisheka Homam on 21st August. Book your archana

Religion & worship, mantra & tantra, astrology & remedies are neither made in India nor the
copyright of the Hindus. They existed and still exist in Europe and China, in the bamboo forests of
Africa and in the rain forests of Brazil. However, with more than 10,000 years behind us, the
wisdom and tradition of the Indians still the best.

From time immemorial, man has been worshipping God. Some do it for salvation, some do it as a
way of thanksgiving and some do it as a daily routine born out of custom or tradition or fear. But all
do it seeking something. Every religious scripture tells us the same thing - "Seek with faith and you
will be rewarded." "Ask with faith and He will give you". Faith is natural, faith is eternal and faith is
rewarding. There are innumerable recorded instances of how He rewarded the faith with His grace.
The Indian scriptures are full of these tales. The Dunkirk Miracle during the 2nd world war is just
one example during the modern times.

To worship God to seek something and to ward off the negative influences of the planets (called
Dosha Nivarana), the various Vedic scriptures and the astrology scriptures have prescribed several
poojas. If properly performed by fully qualified Vedic Pundits, they are effective.

In the olden days the pundits or purohits were taken care by the society. The king would give them
a piece of land, the village/township head would give them a house to live and the people used to
give them clothes and food as an offering (Dakshina) for teaching them the sastras and for
performing the various poojas. So the pundits taught the knowledge of the Vedic sastras freely and
performed the poojas and remedies also freely and accepted whatever the people offered them
without any demands in cash or kind. With the decline of the Vedic way of life this system broke
down. The rulers and the people became more and more materialistic and so did the pundits.
Slowly the commercialism has spoiled the standards of purity and sincerity. Today the lure of
money through astrology remedies and poojas is so strong that even some Muslim "Astrologers"
from neighboring Islamic countries are offering to do "yagyas" for exorbitant prices!! The common
man is at a loss to know who is genuine and who is fake.

However even today there is no shortage of genuine Vedic pundits who still do the poojas and
homas as per the authentic Vedic tradition. I am pleased to inform you that due to repeated
requests by my clients for online pooja order facility, I have put together a team of genuine
traditional south-Indian Vedic purohits who can perform the poojas sincerely as prescribed in the
scriptures. You can read the order pooja online features and options.

***********************************************************************************************************

Pooja is the Hindu ritual of worshiping God in a systematic manner as prescribed in the Vedic
scriptures. An idol or image or symbol of the deity is kept and worshiped by chanting the mantras &
verses. The various names of the deity and the mantras are recited. The number of times they are
recited depends on one's convenience, capacity and time (Yatha Shakti). Some recite 108 times,
or 1008 or more. Various offerings like fruits, flowers, camphor, sweets, milk etc. are offered.
These are called Shodasa Upacharas. It is a way of expressing ones faith in God, a way of
seeking salvation and a way of seeking His blessings to ward off the troubles and to ask Him to
grant ones desired goals and objectives.

Homa is an ancient Hindu ritual performed to invoke Agni, the God of fire, by offering Ghee
(clarified butter) and other sacrificial offerings. As Havih means Ghee and Havisha means offering
and Yagya means sacrifice, Homa is also called Havan and Yagya. After performing the Pooja, a
fire is lit in a Homakunda as shown in the above picture. If one has done 1000 mantra recitals
during the pooja, the 1/10 of that number, i.e., 100 times the mantra is recited again and with each
mantra recital Ghee is pored into the Homakunda. Other offerings like cooked rice etc are also
offered as prescribed. The ingredients vary according to the deity worshiped. Brahma is the creator
of the world and the Sun God is His son. The Sun is the main source of energy and fire represents
Sun. Hence ending the Pooja with offering to fire is considered very auspicious and enhances the
beneficial effects of the pooja.

Technically a Homa and Yagya (also called Yajna) are the same but Yagya is a much larger scale
Homa. To give you an idea: the famous Ekadasa Rudram where normally 11 pundits perform the
Homa is called Rudra Ekadasa Homam. Where as the Ati Rudram, where 121 pundits perform the
Homa is called Ati Rudra Yagya. Let me give you another perspective. Ashoka, Akbar &
Vikramaditya were Maharajas, i.e., kings. As they ruled vast kingdoms they were also called
"Chakravarti", i.e., Emperors. Where as the maharaja of Junagad and the maharaja of Patiala
were only kings and not emperors. So if you get a Havan/Homa done by a few pundits, you should
not call it a Yagya. Today a lot of astrologers and websites are promising to perform "Yajnas" or
"Yagnas" or "Yagyas". There are not enough qualified priests in some of the countries and places
where they promise these! It definitely sounds great and you visualizes a grand Vedic ceremony to
wipe out all your sins. Instead of getting carried away, ask them > what all will be performed, how
many recitals and homa offerings, by how many pundits it will be performed, the date time and the
venue of the homa and as a final deterrent tell them that you or your representative with a family
pundit would like to attend it!!

How the Poojas work

The Hindu theology is based on the theory of Karma or fate. The good and the bad acts by you
have a positive or negative effect on your soul. This balance sheet of your Karma is carried
forward from life to life. It is based on this that you have good and bad experiences in your life. You
may commit a murder and may get away with the police and the law. Or you may cheat your
partner or spouse and hoodwink him. But there is no escaping His cosmic x-ray. Your account gets
debited and the law of Karma is as certain as Newton's third law of motion. Sometimes you
experience the effects of your Karma in this life and sometimes in the next life.

According to the Vedic scriptures and the learned saints, performing mantra-japa, stotra recital,
dana, pooja/homa etc. are auspicious as they produce positive effects and counteract and remove
or at least reduce the negative Karma and improve your life.

The poojas and homas work when performed properly reciting the prescribed mantras, using the
prescribed ingredients, by making the required homa sacrifices and doing the prescribed dana etc
to the pundits. Unfortunately a lot of people and pundits perform them either to cut cost or time and
the results are not what you expect.

To counteract the negative influences of the planets and their bad yogas/doshas, or to improve
and attain various desired objectives, the scriptures have prescribed several poojas and homas of
various deities. The deity is worshipped in the prescribed ritualistic manner with mantras and
offerings, the Brahmins are given anna-dana, vastra-dana and dakshina etc. The positive influence
of these give you positive results. You experience better results and get an inner strength and
confidence. Sometimes the results are instant and sometimes they are slow. But they are certain. I
say it with confidence because poojas have vastly improved my life.

******************************************************************

Who performs them?

If you can perform a pooja yourself, nothing like it. It gives the best results. However not many
know how to perform a ritualistic pooja, or the patience to do repeated mantra japa with
concentration. Those who don't know take the help of the priests to do it for them.

To become a Vedic priest to perform rituals for others, called pundit or purohit or pujari or archaka,
one has to go through several years of Vedic studies (normally eight years), take mantra deeksha
from a good guru, observe the strict rules laid down for the ritualistic way of life of a priest. We still
have several people from traditional families who take up this profession. It is a real tough job -
tougher than getting an MBBS OR MBA. What is more It is not a very paying profession and in
today's social ladder the "status" or "position" of a priest is not worth mentioning. Mafia politicians,
shop keepers and brass bangle exporters have a better standing in the society today than a Vedic
priest. But still in this amazing country some very highly intelligent and disciplined youngsters from
very good families take up this profession and keep the Vedic flames burning. One of the priests in
the group of pundits who perform my poojas is a fully qualified Engineer who worked as an
Engineer for one year and then gave up and became a priest because - "This is my tradition and
my heart is with the service of the Almighty!!" Hats off to this community.
Yes, like in every profession there are cheats and fraud priests who don't know the rituals properly,
or don't perform them properly and take people for a ride. Let me give you an example. Some time
ago I visited Ujjain, one of the ancient Indian seats of learning, the famous Shiva shrine of
Mahakaleswar Jyotirlinga, the place from the great king Vikramaditya ruled and had whose court
had the legendary poet Kalidas and the great astrologer Varahamihira. While standing in the
queue for darshan, I was approached by a senior priest of the temple who asked me If I want to
get Rudrabhisheka pooja performed. I was quite elated at the prospect of getting this highly
auspicious pooja performed in such a holy place. He asked me to pay Rs.251/- and get a receipt. I
was surprised as Rudrabhishekam pooja costs a lot more and asked if he will perform the full
pooja. He confirmed that it is the complete pooja. After I made the payment, he made me sit in a
big hall next to the jyotirlinga, did a simple archana with Shivopasana mantra, recited the
Panchakshari stotra and blessed me!! It was a superb conman act which was over in 10 minits
where as the Rudrabhishekam is a 2-1/2 hrs ritual. Well, sitting in the Mahakala temple I could not
slap a senior priest!! The pundits at the Kashi Vishwanatha temple is much worse and of course
the notorious priests of Puri Jagannath are the worst. The decent educated man gets disgusted
with this kind of priests.
I prescribe poojas as remedies to my clients and several of them repeatedly asked me to start a
pooja ordering section where genuine and sincere Vedic priests can perform the authentic poojas
as prescribed.
My panel of 15 priests consists of hand picked Vedic Brahmins from Andhra, Karnataka and
Tamilnadu. All of them are from traditional Vedashala background of Shringeri, Kanchipuram,
Mantralayam and Rajamundry which are the citadels of Vedic learning, famous for their strict and
thorough training of priests. They do not compromise with any rituals and do not perform any
shortcut poojas. The perfect rhythm and clarity with which they recite the Vedic mantras is truly
divine music to the ears.
All of them follow the Krishnapaksha system of Yajur Veda, as taught by Veda Vyasa, which
is the core of Hindu rituals. Apart from that we have one pundit specializing in Rigveda - which is
the main fund-house of hymns and mantras in praise of the Gods; one pundit specializing in Sama-
Veda - the favorite of the Gods and famous for it verses set to melodious musical rhythm and one
pundit specializing in Athar-Veda which is a treasure trove of remedies and Tantrik mantras.
Normally it is ideal to have all the four Veda specialists to perform a Homa, though it is not a
compulsory rule.

Ganesh Pooja

Sri Vakratunda Mahakaya koti Soorya samaprabha

Nir-vighnam kurume deva shubha karyeshu sarvada
Lord Ganesha, the prodigal son of Shiva and Parvati, is the most worshiped God. Before doing any
auspicious work Ganesha must be worshiped. Before doing any pooja Ganesha pooja must be
performed. He is the God who removes your obstacles. He is the embodiment of wisdom and
worshiped by those seeking knowledge. In his various forms he is worshiped as Buddhi Ganapati
for better knowledge, Vidya Ganapati for studies, Siddhi Ishwarya Ganapati for wealth, Sankata
Nashana Ganapati to remove obstacles and difficulties etc. He is also the presiding Deity of
Astrology.

The following are the most commonly performed Ganesha poojas of the Vedic tradition.

********************************************************************
Om Namo Bhagavate Rudraya

Of the Hindu Trinities - Brahma, Vishnu and Maheswara, Lord Shiva is the most easy to access &
the most easy to forgive. In eternal union with Shakti He is the creator. As Mahakala He is the
death and the destroyer. The entire tantra originated from Lord Shiva. To attain various siddhis and
objectives He gave 64 yantras and their mantras to the world. As Nataraja He is the presiding deity
of dance and music. He is the Male force in the Kundalini. Hanuman and Bhairava are two of His
famous avataras. His consort Devi is the Feminine Mother force of the universe. His son Ganesha
is remover of all obstacles and the ruler of all Vidyas. The two most holy rivers of India - Ganga
and Narmada are associated with Him. He is the presiding deity of the Holy Himalayas and His
consort Devi is the presiding deity of the Vindhyachala. Of the nine planets in Vedic astrology
seven have the Shiva family as their ruling deities as follows:

Jupiter and Mars - Lord Shiva

Saturn - Lord Hanuman

Rahu - Bhairava

Moon, Venus and Ketu - Devi

The Sri Rudram hymn ( chapter 16 & 18 of Yajurveda) dedicated to His worship is regarded as the
removal of all sins and the giver of all that one desires. It is recited while performing most of the
homas. His Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra is the best remedy for health problems. Lord Shiva is a God
who is easy to please and quick to grant your prayers.

Types of Lord Shiva Pujas:

Shiva Pooja108: Pooja of the Shiva Linga is performed with the prescribed articles like flowers,
coconut etc., Shivopasana mantra is recited and archana is performed by reciting the 108
Namavali (names) of Lord Shiva. The Shodasa Upacharas are performed

Shiva Pooja1008: Pooja as above but archana with 1008 names of Lord Shiva.
It will be done in your name and with your sankalpa, i.e., the specific purpose for which you are
getting the pooja performed.

Bilva Patra Pooja108: The Bilva Patra leaves are regarded as the favorite of Lord Shiva. In this
pooja all is same as in item#1 but 108 names Pooja of Lord Shiva is performed with 108 Bilva
Patras.

Bilva Patra Pooja1008: All as above but 1008 names pooja with 1008 Bilva Patras. It will be
done in your name and with your sankalpa, i.e., the specific purpose for which you are getting the
pooja performed.

Masa Shivaratri (Pradosha) Pooja: The thirteenth lunar tithi, Trayodasi, also known as
Pradosha, has a special significance connected with Lord Shiva. It is on this day (Maha Shivaratri)
that He swallowed Halahal - the poisonous fumes, to save the world. Hence every Trayodasi is
called Pradosha and considered very auspicious. Divide the time from sunset to next sunrise into
5 parts and the 1st part, immediately after sunset, is called Pradosha time. Lord Shiva is at His
happiest during the Pradosha time and fulfils all desires of those who worship him during this time
and grants victory and success in all undertakings. There are two Trayodasis in a month and the
Krishnapaksha Trayodasi is called Masa
Shivaratri.**********************************************************************

******************************************************************************

Rudrabhishekam Pooja: This Pooja, where Lord Shiva is worshiped in His Rudra form, is hailed
by all Vedic scriptures as one of the greatest Poojas to remove all evils, to attain all desires and for
all round prosperity.

In this Pooja after the traditional Ganesha Pooja, Kalasha sthapana etc, the Shiva Linga sthapana
is done. Then Laghunyasa is recited. The Shivopasana mantra and the 108 names of Lord Shiva
are recited. Then Sri Rudram (chapter 16 & 18 of Yajur Veda) is recited and the Shiva Linga
abhishekam is done with the prescribed 11 ingredients like water, milk, curd, ghee, honey etc.

Chanting of the Sri Rudram in rhythm purifies the entire atmosphere. In Kaivalya upanishad it is
said that "Rudra Japam" can wipe out all sins and acts is a 'Prayaschitham' for all. Sri Rudram is
also called as Rudra Upanishad and Satha Rudriyam. The Sri Rudram identifies 346 desires of
human beings to be fulfilled to have a peaceful daily life and invokes Lord Rudra to fulfill all of
them.

The Astrology scriptures have repeatedly prescribed this as a remedy for several planetary
Doshas. Whether you want peace or prosperity, progeny or progress in profession, health or
wealth the Rudrabhishekam Pooja is the ideal one

Ekadasa Rudrabhishekam Pooja: This is a more elaborate Pooja of Lord Shiva. Shiva has
eleven forms of Rudra. In this Pooja all the 11 Rudras are worshiped. After the sthapana avahana
etc., Laghunyasam is recited. Then Rudra Trishati is recited. Abhishekam is done to each of the 11
Rudras with all the 11 dravyas prescribed. Their 11 consorts are also worshiped . This pooja is
performed by 4 pundits and Rudram is recited total 11 times - i.e. one recital for each of the 11
Rudras.

Ekadasa Rudrabhishekam (Rudraikadasini) Homam: This is a major Homa of Lord Shiva. Shiva has
eleven forms of Rudra. In this Homa all the 11 Rudras are worshiped. After the sthapana avahana etc.,
Mahanyasam is recited. Then Rudra Trishati is recited. This homa is performed by 11 pundits and each
pundit recites Sri Rudram 11 times - i.e. total 121 times Rudrajapa. Abhishekam is done to each of the 11
Rudras with all the 11 dravyas prescribed. Their 11 consorts are also worshiped . After the pooja Homa is
performed with the prescribed ingredients and 1/10 the number of japas done in the pooja are repeated. It
ends with poornahuti and shanti paath.

Maha-Rudram Yagya: This is a once in a lifetime yagya to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva and
an excellent remedy for all doshas and for all round success in all areas of life. All other rituals are
same as in the above Ekadasa Rudra Homam but in this Yagya 121 pundits recite the Rudram 11
times each in one day - i.e., total 1331 recitals of Sri Rudram. Alternately, instead of one day it is
also performed by 33 pundits for 4 days to complete the total 1331 Rudra japas. After that Homa is
performed with the prescribed ingredients and 1/10 the number of japas done in the pooja are
repeated while performing the Homa - i.e., 133 more Rudra japas.

Normally apart from the 121 reciting pundits 10 more extra pundits are included in the homa to
look after the continuous process of abhishekam and passing the materials plus in case a pundit
takes a break to drink water etc as it a very long Yagya.

One must be very lucky indeed to get this Yagya performed as it is said that Lord Shiva and His
consort Mother Annapoorna bless the performer with all the 8 types of wealth. This Homa can be
performed exclusively for you. A group of people/families can also order it jointly.

Atirudram Yagya: This is a one of the greatest Yagyas prescribed in the scriptures. It is the
ultimate Yagya one can perform for Lord Shiva. In this 121 pundits recite 11 Rudrams each every
day for 11 days - i.e., 14641 Rudram recitals in all. After that Homa is performed with the
prescribed ingredients and 1/10 the number of japas done in the pooja are repeated while
performing the Homa - i.e., 1464 more Rudra japas. In the olden days Kings and Emperors used to
get this Yagya performed for the welfare of their kingdom and for the continuous progress and
prosperity of their clan. It is said that if one performs this Yagya, for 11 generations his clan will
enjoy all types of happiness and wealth.

As the Ati Rudram is a long 11 day yagya, normally apart from the 121 reciting pundits 10 more
extra pundits are included to look after the continuous process of abhishekam and passing the
materials plus in case a pundit takes a break to drink water etc.

Santana Parameswara Pooja: For progeny what better God to worship than Shiva the creator?
Siva Puja is performed with the prescribed articles and abhishekam is done. Then He is worshiped
1008 times with the Santana Parameswara moola mantra, with the specific sankalpa for progeny.

Maha Mrutyanjay Homam: All the scriptures declare the Maha Mrutyanjaya mantra as the best
one for health and longevity. After Shiva Pooja Rudram is recited and then the repeated Recital of
the great Maha Mrutyajaya mantra (also called Maha Mrityunjaya) is done and then Homa is
performed reciting the mantra (1/10 times of recital number). The higher the number the more is
the benefit.

Yakshma Roga Nivarana Homam: This Homa is an excellent one for curing skin diseases like
Luke derma, smallpox and chickenpox marks and other skin blemishes.

After performing Shiva Pooja and Rudram recital, the Yakshma Roga Nivarana mantra from
Rigveda is recited 1000 times and then Havan is performed 100 times. As it is a very lond Mantra,
total 8 Pandits will perform the homa and it takes about 6 hours.

Devi Kamakshi

Devi Poojas

It is said that in the beginning God, who was one, wanted to become many and enjoy himself. As
the first step to creation he created Devi - the total cosmic Female force. For the male part, out of
his left he created Shiva, out of his middle he created Brahma and out of his right he created
Vishnu. She is more powerful than the Trinities and hence She is called Parashakti or Paradevi -
Para meaning beyond. She is the Divine Mother of the universe.

The above picture of Devi Kamakshi, also called Lalita Tripurasundari, of Kanchipuram, is the
closest resemblance to Her description given in the scriptures - holding a lotus, noose, goad and
sugarcane bow in her four hands, of reddish complexion, wearing red sari and with a crescent
moon adorning her head. When all the Gods were powerless before the demon king Mahisasura,
they worshiped Her and She appeared in the form of Goddess Durga. During the battle with
Mahisasura Goddess Durga created Goddess Kali and Goddess Chandi. When she returned after
killing him all the Gods and Goddesses worshiped and sang the famous stotra Devi Stuti in Her
praise. Reciting this entire story, known as Gurga Saptashati or Devi Mahatmyam, is a highly
auspicious one. Reciting Her Lalita Sahasranama Stotra and Lalita Trishati Stotra are repeatedly
prescribed in the scriptures as the best worship for all round success. She is engaged in the
continuous process of dissolution and recreation of the world as Lord Shiva's eternal consort. With
Shiva She is Shakti, with Mahakala She is Smashana Tara, with Bhairava She is Bhairavi and so
on. The Sri Chakra or Sri Yantra is the Tantrik diagrammatic representation of Devi. There is
nothing like worshiping the Devi.

1. Devi Pooja: Shodasopachara Pooja of Devi with the prescribed dravyas and Sahasranama
recital. By default we do Lalita Tripura Sundari (Devi Kamakshi) Pooja.

2. Durga Saptashati (Devi Mahatmyam) Path: Durga Pooja is performed and Durga Saptashati
(700 verses) is recited.

3. Mangala Gauri Pooja: For solving difficulties related to delayed marriage, marital problems
and Mangala Dosha this is one of the most prescribed poojas. Devi is worshiped as Mangala
Gauri and pooja performed with shodasopacharas and namavali pooja.

4. Swayamvara Parvati Homam: This is a more effective one for difficulties related to delayed
marriage, marital problems and Mangala Dosha. The pooja and homam of Godess Parvati, the
wife of Lord Shiva, is performed.

5. Durga Sookta Homam: Devi Durga is worshiped with shodasopacharas, 1008 namavalis are
recited. Then 1008 Durga Sooktam recitals are done and homam performed with the
prescribed offerings. This homam is performed normally by 4 pundits.

6. 6. Chandi Homam: This is a major homam and one of the most prescribed ones for all round
dosha removal and success in all undertakings, especially for victory over enemies and court
cases. What Rudrabhishekam is for Shiva, Chandi Homam is for Devi. Elaborate Devi pooja is
performed. Devi is worshiped in the form of Lakshmi, Saraswati and Chandi. Durga Saptashati
(Devi Mahatmyam) is recited fully and with each of the 700 slokas recital havan is performed
and the Chandi mantra - Aim Hrim Klim Chamundaye Vichhe - is recited. After that Dampati
pooja, Suhasini pooja, Kanya pooja and Brahmachari pooja are performed. It can be performed
exclusively for you. You can also order it for a group of families together.

7. Shata Chandi Yagyam: This is the mother of all Devi yagyas and the greatest homage you can
pay to the Divine Mother. In the above Chandi homam Durga Saptashati is recited once and havan
performed with each of the 700 verses where as in the Shata Chandi yagyam Durga Sapta Shati
700 verses are recited 100 times and havan performed 700 x 100 times. It is done by 100 pandits
in one day or by 50 pandits in 2 days or by 25 pandits in 4 days.

It can be performed exclusively for you. You can also order it for a group of families together.
Lord Shiva created 64 Yantras and 64 mantras of various deities to attain various objectives and
siddhis. For His consort Devi, He created the Sri Yantra and the Shodasi Mantra which is the
equivalent of all the other 64 Yantras and Mantras put together! That is why the Sri Yantra is called
Yantra Raja and the Shodasi Mantra is called Mantra Raja. The Devi resides at the central bindu of
Sri Yantra. There are total 108 Devis in the 9 avaranas of Sri Yantra. Ganesha, Soorya, Vishnu
and Shiva recide at the four corners of the Sri Yantra. All the 8 Lakshmis, Saraswati, the Nityas,
the Yoginis and in fact every Devi controlling each and every aspect of our life and the world reside
in the Sri Yantra.

1. Nava-Avarana Pooja of Sri Chakra: This is one of the greatest Poojas of Devi. The Nava-
Avarana Pooja is an elaborate ritualistic worship of all the Devis of Sri Yantra with the prescribed
Mantras. Only those initiated into the Sri Vidya can perform this coveted Pooja. Even in India there
are not many priests who can perform this highest form of Devi worship. There is nothing like this
Pooja for all round prosperity and removal of troubles, obstacles and doshas.

2. Khadgamala Pooja: Keeping a Sri Yantra, Devi Lalita Tripura Sundari Pooja is performed,
Durga Sooktam is recited, and then the 108 Devis of Sri Yantra are worshiped with Kumkum - i.e.,
108 times Kumkum Archana. A very good pooja of Devi, which is very popular in South India for
general success.

Vishnu Poojas

Brahma created the world. Shiva along with Shakti is engaged in the eternal process of recreation
and dissolution of the world. The monumental task of controlling and running the world is done by
Lord Vishnu. Time and time again when the world was in peril He saved it through His various
Avataras. The Bhagavatam Purana which gives the details of his various Avataras is regarded as
the most important Purana. The Bhagavad Gita He taught to Arjuna during His incarnation as
Krishna is undoubtedly the greatest religious discourse in the world. Goddess Laxmi, His consort,
is the giver of eight types of wealth. No Vedic ceremony is complete without reciting His Purusha
Suktam.

1. Vishnu Sahasranama Pooja: The Vishnu Sahasranama recital is one of the most common
"cure all and get all" remedies prescribed in the scriptures. This pooja is performed with the
shodasopacharas, recital of purusha sooktam, vishnu sooktam and narayanopanishat and
1008 namavili japa of Lord Vishnu. It will be performed in your name with your specific
sankalpa.
2. Satyanarayana Vrata Pooja: Shri Sathyanaranayana katha is from Skandha purana. Sage
Sutha Puraanikji was the narrator. It was prescribed to Rishi Narada by Lord Vishnu as an
antidote to all evils and suffering.

The satyanarayana pooja is performed by keeping a photo of Lord Satyanarayana, with the
prescribed materials. After the ritualistic pooja the satyanarayana katha is narrated.

Purusha Sukta Homam: It is stated in the Suta Samhita that Lord Vishnu himself told about this
homa to Sanatkumara.
"Putrapradam Aputraanam Jayadam Jayakaminaam
Bhuktidam Bhuktikamanam Mokshadam Moksha Kaminaam"
"Those who wish progeny, success in all undertakings, worldly enjoyments and mukti shall get it by
performing this homam."

In this elaborate homam, which will be performed by 5 Vedic Pundits, Lord Vishnu pooja will
performed with the shodasopacharas, recital of 1008 namavili japa of Lord Vishnu, purusha
sooktam, vishnu sooktam and narayanopanishat. 1008 recitals of the Purusha Sooktam will be
done by the pundits. After that the Vishnu Sahasranama stotra recital, which is one of the most
common "cure all and get all" remedies prescribed in the scriptures, will be done.. After that
homam with the prescribed materials will be performed. It will end with ghana patham. The
Purusha Sookta is the Vedic Sookta of Lord Vishnu and recited in most of the homas. It is said in
Purusha Sooktam that:-

“Yagyena Yaguamayajantha dhevaah

Thaani Dharmaani Prathamaanyasan
Thehanakam Mahimaanassajanthe
Yathra Poorve Saadhyassanthi Devaah”.
The Devas who worshipped this Purusha, by this Yagya and by all the Dharma,
attained high levels in Svarga. All persons performing this Yagya shall reach similar status.

3. Santana Gopala Homam: This is one of the most prescribed Homas for projeny.

In this elaborate homam Lord Vishnu as Gopala Krishna is worshiped with tulasi leaves. First the
recitals of the Purusha Sooktam is done. The Purusha Sookta is the Vedic Sookta of Lord Vishnu
and recited in most of the homas. Then Santana Gopala moola mantra japa is done by keeping
Santana Gopala yantra. After that homam is performed. Hence this homam is a highly effective
one for those having conceiving problems and desire children. People who have children perform it
for the all round progress and benefit of their children.

4. Sudarshana Homam: It grants the protection of Lord Vishnu's Sudarshana Chakra and is a
protection for the devotee in every way - health, wealth, happiness, job business, all types of
evils, dosha nivarana, troubles from enemies, black magic, vasheekaran, evil eye, fear and
persecution by evil sprits.

Pooja of Lord Vishnu is performed by 5 South Indian Vedic Pandits with Tulasi leaves, Purusha
Suktam is recited and Sudarshana yantra is worshiped with Sudarshana mantra japa.

5. Dhanavantri Pooja

"One who bears in his attractive four hands conch, chakra, a set of leeches and a pot with
ambrosia, whose fine, shining and pure upper garment makes him appear especially wonderful,
whose eyes are like lotus flower, whose bright bodily luster is of the color of a fresh rain cloud,

Nava Graha Poojas

The great Indian yogi Paramahamsa Yogananda said, "Man is born on that day and that moment
when his individual fate is in perfect mathematical harmony with the progress of the stars in
heaven". How the planets are placed in ones horoscope at the time of birth determines the good
and bad effects of ones life and the time of their effect. In every horoscope some planets are well
placed and some are badly placed. Hence we go through success and failures, happiness and
sorrows in various aspects of life in different time slots in varying degrees. Certain planetary
conflagrations give rise to strong negative effects called "Doshas". The Vedic scriptures and the
astrology scriptures prescribe various poojas to ward off the negative influence of the planets and
to improve the benefic effects.
1.Navagraha pooja: The Navagraha pooja is performed in the prescribed manner with the Nava
Dravyas of the 9 planets. Navagraha Sooktam is recited and 108 Namavalis of all the 9 planets are
recited. This pooja is performed by 2 pundits.

2.Navagraha Homam: All above plus recital of Sri Rudram and the pancha sooktas followed by
homam with the prescribed materials. This is performed by 4 pundits.

3. Nakshatra Shanti Homam: The star constellation in which moon is placed at the time of ones birth
is called Janma Nakshatra. Performing a nakshatra shanti homam improves the all round effects and
removes whatever doshas are present. This is performed by 4 pundits.

4.Birth day Nakshatra Shanti Homa: This nakshatra shanti Homam is performed on the birth
day of every year to give protection and better results throughout the year. This is performed
by 2 pundits.

5. Graha Shanti pooja of any one planet: If a planet is not well placed in ones chart its shanti
pooja/Homa removes or reduces the negative effects and gives better results. Apart from that
Graha shanti is desirable in case of severe Mangala dosha or sadesati. During the dasa or
antardasa of a planet if the planets graha shanti homam is performed one experiences better
results. Apart from that, anyone desiring improvement in any particular aspect of life, like
profession or health etc., can get the Shanti pooja/homa of the particular ruling planet for better
results.

The planet's pooja is done with the prescribed materials and 1008 namavali of the planet are
recited and 1008 sookta recital is done. Pooja is performed by one pundit.

7. Graha Shanti Homam of any one planet: As above but 5 pundits recite the 1008
Namavali and Sookta of the planet (5x1008) and homam is performed for 1/10th number
of recitals.

Kartikeya (Subramanya) Pooja

The story of Lord Kartikeya's birth is given in Kumar Sambhavam.

Sati, the consort of Shiva immolated herself at the site of the Daksha Yagna, which was later
destroyed by Shiva. Sati was reborn as Uma, or Parvati the daughter of the mountain king
Himavaan (the Himalayas). Shiva withdrew himself from the universe and engaged himself in yogic
meditation in the Himalayas.
In the meanwhile, the demon Surapadma ravaged the earth and tormented its beings. It was
realized by the gods that only the son born of Shiva and Parvati could lead the gods to victory over
Tarakaasuran, Surapadman and their demon companions. They plotted with Kaama, the lord of
desire, to shoot a flower arrow at Shiva, as he sat in meditation, so as to make him fall in love with
Parvati. When Kaama aimed his arrow at Shiva, he opened his third eye and burned him to ashes
instantly. Upon hearing the pleas of Kama's wife Rati, he brought back Kama to life, in flesh and
blood for her sake, and in a formless state for others.
His penance disturbed, Shiva fell in love with Parvathi. However, the sparks of the fiery seed of
Shiva were unbearable; even the fire God Agni could not bear them; this fire was then transported
by the river Ganga into the Sara Vana forest, where Sara Vana Bhava (Kartikeya) was born. He
was raised by the six Kartika damsels. Parvati combined these six babies into one with six faces,
ie. Shanmukha.
He led the army of the devas to victory against the demons.
Kartikeya is also known as Subramaniam, Skanda, Guha, Shadannana or Shanmukha (because
he has six faces). He represents a person of perfection. He is the war God, the Hindu equivalent of
Mars and Aries. He was created by all the Gods to lead the heavenly hosts and destroy the
demons. He is the most masculine and fierce of all the Gods. While Ganesh removes all obstacles,
Skanda bestows all spiritual powers, particularly the power of knowledge.
He is worshiped for all problems related to Mars, especially Mangala dosha or Kuja dosha.

The following are the most commonly performed Kartikeya poojas of the Vedic tradition.

1. Kartikeya Pooja: A full ritualistic pooja of Lord Subramanya is performed with 1008 namavali
pooja. It is done specifically in your name with your sankalpa, i.e., your wish.

2. Kartikeya Homam: The above pooja with 1008 Namavali japa plus 1008 Subramanya Moola
mantra recital and Homa performed with 1/10 of the japa number, i.e., 108 Moolamantra recital
during homa. Ends with poornahuti and shanti mantras. It is done specifically in your name
with your sankalpa, i.e., your wish.
