VI. Network Play
--------------------------------------------
Online Play (Solutions for users with Routers/Firewall applications)
In order to play cricket online you must open or forward UDP ports 11514, 11515
and 11516.
You will need to do this if you have a router and you may need to configure any
software
firewall you have running.
If you are unfamiliar with how to do this http://portforward.com offers a compre
hensive
guide covering a wide range of routers and firewall applications. Please note th
at in order
for your ports to remain correctly forwarded you will need to set up a static IP
address for
your PC if it doesn't already have one. http://portforward.com/networking/static
ip.htm covers
how to set this up.
--------------------------------------------
VII. Memory and Performance
--------------------------------------------
Brian Lara International Cricket 2007 requires at least 256MB of RAM and a 1.4Gh
z
processor; the performance of the game will improve if you have more RAM, a fast
er
processor and graphics card. Regardless of your machine specs, you can maximise
your
available memory and increase the overall performance of the game by doing the
following:
Shut down all non-essential Windows programs especially online chat programs,
virus checkers and screen layout utilities.
Regularly defragment your hard drive.
Increase your amount of free hard drive space
--------------------------------------------
VIII. Graphics and Sound cards
--------------------------------------------
GRAPHICS CARDS
Brian Lara International Cricket 2007 requires a graphics card with 3D hardware
acceleration and at least 64 MB of RAM. The drivers for your graphic card must s
upport
DirectX 9c. If you are having any problems running the game, please ensure you
have
updated your graphic card drivers before contacting technical support (See secti
on IX
below).
SOUND CARDS
If you are experiencing sound abnormalities such as clicking and popping, you ma
y need
to adjust your Audio settings. Run the Hardware Setup Tool and select "Minimal S
tereo Mixer" from the
audio options. If this setting is already in use, or you are still experiencing
issues
you may need to turn off sound hardware acceleration. Go to Start, Control Panel
, Sound,
then find the sound/audio hardware acceleration setting and turn it off.
Occasionally, some users may experience poor audio quality when using an onboard
nForce sound card in conjunction with certain graphics cards. Please update your
nForce
drivers.
ADVANCED AUDIO OPTIONS
This game uses OpenAL, the standard audio library. It can drive sound cards with
built-in
OpenAL support directly, or translate OpenAL commands to use DirectSound or Dire
ctSound3D
drivers. Thus it offers both high compatibility and high performance.
You select a particular driver using the audio buttons in the Setup program. The
re are five
possible options. Any that do not suit your machine are ghosted, and a safe defa
ult is
selected after the game is first installed. Click on any of the other non-ghoste
d items to
try an alternative.
THE FIVE CHOICES
The "NATIVE OPENAL ACCELERATION" driver is generally the best, as it talks direc
tly to
high-quality audio cards and supports the new EFX digital effects. However this
does need
up-to-date drivers (Refer to section IX below).
The "NFORCE OPENAL 1.0" option uses an older version of OpenAL available on NFor
ce audio
systems. You only get this option if you have suitable Nvidia hardware and drive
rs installed.
The "DIREXTSOUND3D TRANSLATION" driver translates OpenAL audio requests into the
old
DirectSound3D format, to take advantage of drivers for systems that do not yet s
upport
OpenAL natively. Digital effects will be translated to use EAX - DirectSound3D E
nvironmental
Audio Extensions - in place of EFX, if possible. The quality and performance of
this
translation depends on the compatibility of the underlying DirectSound3D driver
and your
'hardware acceleration' settings in Windows. "DirectSound3D translation" is typi
cally the
fastest option on Windows XP, but if the DirectSound3D driver has bugs (e.g. som
e RealTek
systems) performance suffers.
The "STEREO SOFTWARE MIXER" driver is the most compatible, but does not take adv
antage of
surround-sound or digital effects hardware and may slow the game down slightly a
s it uses the
main processor to mix the sound. The driver can filter sounds and add reverberat
ion, but cannot
match the digital effects or sound quality of custom audio hardware like Audigy
or X-Fi cards.
The "MINIMAL STEREO MIXER" driver is similar, but a bit faster as it does not of
fer any digital
effects. Choose this if you care more about the speed of the game than audio qua
lity.

IX. Known Issues
--------------------------------------------
There are some known performance issues with Windows Vista due to driver compati
bility.
Please continue to check for driver updates from your hardware manufacturer.
