Objectives
1. Peter, James, and John had the unique privilege of being with Jesus on the Mount
of Transfiguration.
2. Jesus was acknowledged by God as His beloved Son in front of the disciples.
3. The transfiguration of Jesus revealed Christ’s divinity and fulfillment of the Law
and Prophecy.

Mark And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up
9:2 into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them.

Mark And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can

Mark And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus.

The Two Witnesses in Revelation chapter 11:

Mark And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make
9:5 three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

Notice the order. Most Jews would put Moses before their Rabbi, but
Peter knew that Jesus was the Christ, so Jesus is mentioned before
Moses.

In John 1:14, the word “dwelt” means to tabernacle. And the Word was
made flesh, and tabernacled among us:
John And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory,
1:14 the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

1. to fix one's tabernacle, have one's tabernacle, abide (or live) in a tabernacle (or
tent), tabernacle
2. to dwell
In this context, Peter wanted to build a temporary dwelling place like
the one that the Jewish people from out of town would build as a
temporary dwelling place in Jerusalem during the feasts.

Peter sees the glory that Jesus has in the Messianic Kingdom. This is a
correct response based on what Peter does understand, and that is the
fact that according to Zechariah 14:16-21 The Messianic Kingdom is the
fulfillment of the feast of Tabernacles.

What Peter does not understand yet is that Passover must be fulfilled
first, before Tabernacles is fulfilled, and the Passover is fulfilled by the
death of the Messiah.
Mark For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid.

Proverbs In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips

Proverbs Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth

 They’ve heard the law; they have heard the prophets, now it’s time to
listen to the Christ, who is the fulfillment of the law and the prophets.
Jesus is the final relation of God to man. Jesus is the door.
John Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the
10:1 sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.
John But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
10:2
John To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own
10:3 sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
John And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep
10:4 follow him: for they know his voice.
John And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not
10:5 the voice of strangers.
John This parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they
10:6 were which he spake unto them.
John Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of
10:7 the sheep.
John All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear
10:8 them.
John I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and
10:9 out, and find pasture.
There is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we
must be saved.
Acts Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people,
4:8 and elders of Israel,
Acts If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what
4:9 means he is made whole;
Acts Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus
4:10 Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by
him doth this man stand here before you whole.
Acts This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the
4:11 head of the corner.
Acts Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven
4:12 given among men, whereby we must be saved.
For those that believe, Jesus is our advocate and High Priest.
Hebrews But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater
9:11 and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this
building;
Hebrews Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in
9:12 once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

I John My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man
2:1 sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
I John And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins
2:2 of the whole world.
Mark And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus
9:8 only with themselves.
 The Transfiguration:
- Authenticated the Messiahship of Jesus (Rejected by men, but
accepted by God).
- Anticipates the establishment of the future earthly kingdom. II Peter
1:17-18
- Guarantees the fulfillment of all scripture. II Peter 1:19-21
- Is a pledge of life beyond the grave.
- Is a measure of His love for us.
Mark And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man
9:9 what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead.

Mark And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising
9:10 from the dead should mean.

Mark And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elias must first come?
9:11
Having just seen Elijah, the question is raised about the scripture that
promises the coming of Elijah before the Messiah.
Malachi Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and
4:5 dreadful day of the LORD:
Malachi And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the
4:6 children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.
They do not yet understand the concept of two comings.
Mark And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how
9:12 it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought.

If Elijah had restored all things at the first coming, then how would the
prophecy of the suffering servant be fulfilled? In the Malachi context,
Elijah is promised before the second coming.
Mark But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever
9:13 they listed, as it is written of him.
Mark 9:13 : Mk 1:2;
The first forerunner:
Malachi Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me:
3:1 and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the
messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith
the LORD of hosts.
The second forerunner (Before the second coming):
Malachi Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and
4:5 dreadful day of the LORD:
Malachi And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the
4:6 children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.
The fore runner of the first coming is John the Baptist, who is a type of
Elijah, and the forerunner of the second coming is Elijah. Both John and
Elijah come in the same power and spirit.
