A Disciple of Christ

Matthew 10:5-15
5
These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of
the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:
6
But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
7
And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
8
Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have
received, freely give.
9
Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses,
10
Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the
workman is worthy of his meat.
11
And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy; and there
abide till ye go thence.
12
And when ye come into an house, salute it.
13
And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let
your peace return to you.
14
And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that
house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.
15
Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha
in the day of judgment, than for that city.

Matthew 16:6-12
6
Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and
of the Sadducees.
7
And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread.
8
Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye
among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread?
9
Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and
how many baskets ye took up? 10Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and
how many baskets ye took up?
A Disciple of Christ
11
How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye
should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?
12
Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but
of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

Matthew 9:36-38
36
But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because
they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.
37
Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are
few;
38
Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his
harvest.

John 21
15So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest
thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee.
He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
16He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He
saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my
sheep.
17He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was
grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him,
Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed
my sheep.
Matthew 10:32-33
32
Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my
Father which is in heaven.
33
But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father
which is in heaven.

Mark 12:29-31 (King James Version)

29
And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The
Lord our God is one Lord: 30And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and
with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first
commandment.
A Disciple of Christ
31
And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is
none other commandment greater than these.

Matthew 26:35
Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise
also said all the disciples.

John 18:15-27
15
And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple: that disciple was known
unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest.
16
But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple, which was
known unto the high priest, and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter.
17
Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this
man's disciples? He saith, I am not.
18
And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; for it was
cold: and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself.
19
The high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine.
20
Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and
in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.
21
Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold,
they know what I said.
22
And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with
the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?
23
Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why
smitest thou me?
24
Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest.
25
And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not
thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not.
26
One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off,
saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?
27
Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew.

Luke 9:26
26
For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man
be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy
angels.

Isaiah 8:14-16, 19-20

14
And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence
to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
15
And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be
taken.
16
Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.
19
And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto
wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the
living to the dead?
20
To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because
there is no light in them.

Acts 11:17-30
17
Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on
the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?
18
When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then
hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.
19
Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about
Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to
none but unto the Jews only.
20
And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to
Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the LORD Jesus.
21
And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned
unto the Lord.
22
Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in
Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch.
23
Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them
all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.
A Disciple of Christ
24
For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was
added unto the Lord.
25
Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul:
26
And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a
whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And
the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

Luke 14:26-30
26
If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children,
and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
27
And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
28
For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the
cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?
29
Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold
it begin to mock him,
30
Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.
31
Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and
consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him
with twenty thousand?
32
Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and
desireth conditions of peace.
33
So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be
my disciple.
34
Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?
35
It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath
ears to hear, let him hear.

Luke 9:57-65
57
And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord,
I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
58
And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the
Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
A Disciple of Christ
59
And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury
my father.
60
Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the
kingdom of God.
61
And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell,
which are at home at my house.
62
And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking
back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

Matthew 25:13-30
13
Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man
cometh.
14
For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his
own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.
15
And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man
according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.
16
Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made
them other five talents.
17
And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.
18
But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money.
19
After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.
20
And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying,
Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five
talents more.
21
His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been
faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy
of thy lord.
22
He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me
two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.
23
His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful
over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy
lord.
A Disciple of Christ
24
Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that
thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast
not strawed:
25
And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is
thine.
26
His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest
that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:
27
Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my
coming I should have received mine own with usury.
28
Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.
29
For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from
him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.
30
And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and
gnashing of teeth.

Proverbs 3:1-4
1
My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: 2For length of
days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. 3Let not mercy and truth forsake
thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: 4So shalt thou
find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

Mark 3:4
And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to
save life, or to kill? But they held their peace.

Romans 8:3-7
3
For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his
own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: 4That
the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but
after the Spirit.
5
For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after
the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 6For to be carnally minded is death; but to be
spiritually minded is life and peace. 7Because the carnal mind is enmity against God:
for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

Malachi 2:5
My covenant was with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him for the fear
wherewith he feared me, and was afraid before my name.
