Mozart wrote over 600 works during his lifetime, including 41 symphonies and 27
piano concertos.

Capt. Robert Falcon Scott, better known as Scott of the Antarctic, was the first
person to reach the South Pole on 17 January 1912.

Molten Mug Chocolate Cake
Method
1. Add dry ingredients to mug, mix well
with a fork.
2. Add egg, mix throughly.
• 1 coffee mug 3. Pour in milk, oil and vanilla, mix well.
• 4 Tbsp. cake flour (plain, not self-rising) 4. Add chocolate chips if desired. Push a

of the longest month in the year. It’s
all about diet, the knowledge and
guilt that we’ve eaten too much, the
secret steamed puddings, constantly
nibbling Quality Street and having
two rounds of turkey sandwiches
instead of a polite one. In December
it doesn’t feel like naughtiness, it
feels like decadent, luxurious,
Christmas-fuelled joy. In
January it feels like gluttony
and despair, as the thought
of Summer looms. Gym
memberships soar, the sales
of fat-free yoghurt fly through
the frosty ceilings and it takes
twice as long to get weighed
through the queues at diet
clubs.
But. I have wisdom to share!
My best pal, let’s call her W, she says
that February is the month to begin
new regimes. January, she says, is for
hunkering down, for hiding out, and
finishing off the rest of the Christmas
choc.
With this in mind, having battled my
way through the January sales in
Bromley, I decided to stop at a well
known coffee chain for a little snack.

had I raised the mug to my lips, I heard
a familiar screech - Celia, the dreaded
head of the PTA. (Some of you may
remember her colourful performance
at the Christmas Fair when she tried to
cop off with Santa, with her radio-mic
twisted round her mulled wine and
her halo at half mast…)
“No January diet for you then!”
she brayed, brandishing
her skinny latte and lack
of snacks.
And then, the most
glorious moment in history.
You know when you dream
you have the right line up your
sleeve, delivered at precisely
the right moment, with the right
setting, with the right smile? This was
my moment.
“Ha, Lord no, diets are for fat people!” I
beamed, with a large whipped cream
moustache. “Happy New Year Celia!”

Lewis Carroll
27 January 1832 – 14 January 1898
Lewis Carroll was born Charles Lutwidge Dodgson at Daresbury in Chesire, on 27
January 1832. He was an English author, mathematician, logician, anglican deacon and
photographer.
Lewis Carroll is most famous for his story, ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’, published
in 1865. It was written for Alice, the daughter of a friend.
His other writings included the sequel ‘Through the Looking-Glass’ as well as the poems
‘The Hunting of the Snark’ and Jabberwocky’.
The poem Jabberwocky, is considered by many to be one of the greatest nonsense
poems written in the English language. It was originally featured as a part of his novel
‘Through the Looking-Glass’.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
