The waste compactor is placed inside a concrete trench positioned un-
der a metallic lid which functions hydraulically. This structure, in its as-
cent moveme face are the input towers linked to the hydraulic platform.
The surface input towers where the waste containers are to be placed
are connected to the hydraulic platform, at the surface. These surface
input towers have an opening where the residues are placed; they are
then impelled downwards into the compactor due to gravity.

C. Characteristics of the
Metallic Structure

Description and general

Characteristics
The Bigtainer model is made up of a metallic platform with a hydraulic
RSHQLQJDQGDQH[WHULRUULPZKLFKKHOSVSRVLWLRQDQGOHYHOVWKHHTXLS-
ment in its proper place.
The metallic platform trough its ascent movement lifts the compactor to
WKHVWUHHWOHYHO7KHVWDELOL]DWLRQRIWKHPRYHPHQWLVH[HFXWHGE\DPH-
tallic scissor that is always placed inside the trench.
The metallic lid is positioned on the surface of the pavement and is cove-
red with the same material as the sidewalk (coble stone, granite, micro-
cube etc) and it supports the surface input towers.
The platform is of a robust construction made up of a rectangular stain-
OHVVVWHHOVWUXFWXUHZLWKDQHSR[\WUHDWPHQWDQGFDQKROGWKHZHLJKWRID
vehicle on its surface without any sign of deformation.
The height of the structure can be regulated so as to follow the slope of
the soil where it is to be installed, be it in its length be it in its width.
Four hydraulic cylinders producing double effect account for its power,
and when they activated produce the required impulse to lift and bring
down the lid as needed.
The hydraulic system is equipped with safety valves, which will function
in case of a hypothetical uncontrollable fall. The hydraulic circuit is com-
posed of hydraulic stainless steel tubes.

Security pins of the front door detail

Operating method with the control tower

Only specialized people in the disposal of residues or in handling equip-

ment are to open or close the platform.
Move the platform by placing the control key in one of the tower’s hole.
In order to open the equipment, simply rotate the key to the right.
The operator must be able to see the entire area where the equipment
is moving. In order to stop the equipment from moving, simply let go of
the manual control key. The hydraulic circuit of the equipment has been
perceived so as to guarantee that no unwanted movement occurs.

To start the compactor collection is necessary to open the hydraulic front

door of the metallic structure. In order to move the door you need to
remove the security pins, and operate the control tower by placing and
rotating the control key in the other tower’s hole.
Control Tower
The person responsible for the operation must seal the area where the
compactor has been removed and during the entire process must be
very attentive.
After the compactor removing the equipment is shut.
In order to lock the equipment simply rotate the control key in the oppo-
site direction.

D. The Trench’s Characteristics

In order to withhold the equipment it is necessary to build a concrete

trench. The construction process of the trench can be put down to four
steps:
- Excavation | Threshold | Walls | Closer/Finishing touches

Excavation

tion. Once this operation has been concluded, the soil at the base of the
trench needs compacting.

Threshold
There are two solutions for the construction of the threshold:
· The construction of a low concrete overspan at the base of the wall,

water, as the plans show. This is to be covered in gravel, to stop moss
formation.
· The Construction of a concrete layer for the entire trench, as shown in

The starting of the equipment is guaranteed by one work post.
The hydraulic circuit of the equipment and the truck have been perceived to
guarantee that no unwanted movement occurs.

Modes and Means of Halting (emergency stopping)

Stop Control
All movements occur by means of continued action command and the per-
son responsible for the operation is able to see the entire area where the
equipment is moving. In order to stop the equipment from moving, simply
let go of the manual control.

Risk warning caused by mishandling and ways of minimi-

zing and/or eliminating these risks

Danger
Crushing of the inferior limbs during the closure movement of the me-
tallic structure lid.
General Arrangement
The hydraulic circuit has been perceived to guarantee that the lid does not
fall inopportunely.
The lid’s movement is done by means of a continued action control ant the
person responsible for the operation has to see the entire work area.

Danger
People might get near the equipment during the collection operation.
General Arrangement
When the compactor is removed from the equipment to perform the
collection operation, the equipment has a safety platform. The truck
used for the collection has light and sound signalisation that should be
active during the operation to attract people’s attention.
Danger
Throwing of pressure fluid in case the hoses or junctions breach.
General Arrangement
In case the hoses breach the safety valves close down and the fluid stops. The
fluid inside the damaged hose is projected to the bottom of the equipment’s
trench.

Danger
Existence of people over the equipment during the opening of the me-
tallic structure.
General Arrangement
All movements are executed with a continued action remote control and the
person responsible for the operation is able to visualize the entire work area.
If it is necessary to stop the opening operation due to the proximity of people
it is enough to let go of the accelerator.

H. Instructions on how to
operate the Machine

1. Standard proceedings as to fixating and anchoring and

proceedings on how to lessen the vibrations.

The anchoring of the metallic structure of the surface input towers and waste
containers for transport in trucks should be executed with suitable bands
used around the mentioned equipments and these must be spaced in such a
way that they do not suffer the vibration during the transport.

2. Setting up and installing the equipment.

The equipment’s instalment is executed by Zibi’s qualified staff and

follows the next steps:

1. Loading the equipment with the crane truck. According to the truck’s ca-
pacity the loading will be done in 1, 2 or more times. Special attention will be
necessary in order to prevent damage to the hydraulic system elements.

2. Equipment’s transportation to the trench’s proximity. The cleanness of

trenches’ interior as well as the cleanness of the equipment supporting walls
will be verified in advance. In an equal manner the measures of the construc-
tion works will be verified.

3.The equipment will be discharged carefully to prevent damages, especially

to the hydraulic system parts. The equipment will be set in the foreseen posi
tion with all the safety conditions.

4. Alignment of the equipment with the other elements.

5. Removing the tightness plates of safety.

6. Adjustment of the height with screw threads starting by the lowest part
of the street in case of inclination. Afterwards the part with more inclination

using the necessary resistance elements and sufficient capacities.

7. Height and alignment adjustment verifying the stiffness and the stability
of the supports in order to prevent any movements subsequent to the final
adjustment.

8. The building construction company will make the pre concrete process.
Before using the concrete a final verification will be done because once this
phase is completed it will not be possible to correct the placement mistakes.
The concrete will be placed with attention so that it will not fall over the visi-
ble area or over the area of the finishing touches. In case some concrete falls,
it should be immediately removed before it dries.
9. Confirmation of the pre concrete process.

10. Placement of the surface input towers with the help of angles and plates.
This placement is done with a worker inside the trench and one outside that
smoothly introduces the surface input tower into its place. Once the surface
input tower is supported over the angles the worker inside it places the four
screws and the corresponding nuts.

11. Connexion of the 380V hydraulic nucleus to the electric power and to the
hydraulic cylinders of the platform.

12. Equipment opening and verification of the levelling and alignment. If

the rehearsal is not satisfactory, all the connexions are re-examined until the
faults are solved.

13. Placement of the surface input tower with the help of angles and plates.
This placement is done with a worker inside the platform and one outside
that smoothly introduces the surface input tower into its place. Once the sur-
face input tower is supported over the angles the worker inside it places the
four screws and the corresponding nuts.

14. Adjustment of the placed surface input tower with the help of a level in
such a manner that the superior edge is horizontal and the lateral edges are
vertical. The adjustment will be done with the nuts that fix the surface input
towers’ support structure.

15. Setting the silicone in the connexion joint of the surface input towers
with the ring. Sealing of the surface input tower’s drum and placement of the
plate with the CE series number and the signalisation.

16. The building construction company places the pavement using cement,
glue or resin. The platform’s thread joints, to open it externally in case of
breakdown, will not be covered.

17. Cleaning the platform interior and removing the residues of the construc-
tion work.

18. Setting the waste compactor inside the platform and connexion of the
electric plug in to the waste compactor.

19. Connexion of all the electronic cables to the surface input tower locker.

20. General verification of behaviour.

21. Confirmation of register by the client.

3. Necessary material for instalment.

- Generator or electric source.
- Several tightness tools.
- Welding machine
- Plate piercing machine with several drills.
- Slot drilling machine
- Level.
- Riveting machine to place the CE and the signalling plates.
- Rivets.
- Several screws and nuts.
4. Operation to set the equipment to work.

The only necessary operation to set the equipment to work is the opening of
