IT Awareness, Guest Relations:

Aim:
Aim of this program is to give the participants a basic idea on how to solve simple IT issues we face in
our daily office life. In specific issues which guests face when they try to access Internet in SLMD.
This presentation will include information not only about Internet at SLMD, it will cover basic idea of
networks what they are and why they are used and how people get connected using a network and why
we have issues and how we can solve them which will also include real life time examples.

Contents:

1. What is a network:
This slide contains basic information on what a network is, how it is used, what are the
advantages and disadvantages of having a network and also the basic terms which we use while
explaining something in a network which will be also useful when we go more further on the
presentation

2. Basic Diagnosis:
This part of the presentation is going to be divided into various issues we face in SLMD starting
from how and what a user must see when he switch his Internet both WIFI and LAN.

I. How to check LAN and WIFI adapters:


In this slide we look into the adapter settings for the best performance of
Internet at SLMD. IP settings, and also the basic format of the IP ranges which
you must see on the adapters if all are configured fine. Or else if there is
anything to change, what do we need to change. This will also include examples
on most of the issues we IT face due to a false configuration of these adapters.

II. Proxy settings on IE or FF or any other browser:


We do not have any proxy settings to access Internet from SLMD, while most of
networks do have a proxy settings to access Internet, and here on this slide we
will explain why people use proxy and what does it do and if one is presently
configured on the browser they use.

III. Some of the phones like Black berry Bold, Iphone 2g etc dose not get
authenticated from our nomadix:
In this slide we will explain more on what to do when a guest goes to the
authentication page and why we need this page. Basically what will the nomadix
authentication page and explains more on why it is used. And if the user cannot
by pass this page how to solve it.

IV. WIFI Access Point does not synchronize:


Here in this slide we give a basic explanation for the user on how to check the
WIFI access points to see if they are correctly synchronized. If not some basic
troubleshooting they can do in order to solve this.
3. If you could not solve the issue your self what to do next?
In this part of the presentation we give a path way they must take to inform relevant personals
about the issue they have in accessing Internet. Also tell them not to tell ISP that they have an
Internet issue, instead be more specific on the issues they have. And also this slide will include a
summary of all of what we discussed in the whole presentation.
