History and Mission
Since 2004 the mission of the dual MSE-MBA program between Purdue University’s
Engineering Professional Education (EPE) and Indiana University’s Kelley Direct
MBA has been to provide quality distance education to working professional engineers.
Purdue and IU are among the first research universities nationally to make available
specialized graduate programs entirely through distance education. The faculty at both
universities has been teaching in our online programs for over a decade, so they under-
stand the best way to deliver course material online.
Curriculum Overview
The goal of this dual program is to provide high quality graduate-level distance educa-
tion to working professional engineers located anywhere in the world.

The Purdue-Kelley dual MSE-MBA program offers you a unique opportunity to gain
additional technical expertise and learn management skills to complement your existing
knowledge and capabilities.

You earn two degrees in a total of 60 credit hours, compared to 81 credit hours if you
earned each degree separately.

The dual program consists of three parts:

● technical/engineering
● a bridge between technical and business courses
● business management courses

This gradual progression from engineering into management expands your knowledge
and understanding of the technical/ management challenges in industry while develop-
ing individual and team skills required for launching innovative strategies that advance
the goals of your company.
Purdue MSE/MS Dual Degree Course
Requirements
Engineering Specialization Area: 12 credits from an engineering specialization area. You
may choose the same area as your bachelor’s degree or the area you’re currently work-
ing in or wish to pursue in the future. You will take these 12 credits at the beginning of

Bridge Course Area: 15 credits in engineering/technical management. These courses

will transition your studies from engineering into the management curriculum. You will
choose one Purdue technical course in 3 of the following 4 areas:

- Economics
- Operations
- Information Technology
- Quantitative Analysis.

The fourth bridge area must be satisfied by taking a Kelley business course. One of the
following courses will satisfy this requirement:

Elective: In addition to the 12 bridge credits taken from Table 1 above, you may choose one course
from either Purdue or Kelley to complete the required 15 credits of bridge courses.

Once you have successfully completed 30 credits of coursework with a minimum of 18 credits in en-
gineering, you will graduate with the MSE/MS degree from Purdue and may begin the Kelley MBA
curriculum.

Kelley Direct Programs

Kelley Direct tuition in the 2010-11 academic year is $1,065/credit hour;

tuition is subject to change every academic year. In addition to tuition,
Kelley Direct students are assessed a $300/billing term program fee;
there are four billing terms in the University billing cycle. The program
fee covers the following programmatic activities and initiatives: the KD
Speaker Forum, Kelley Direct Alumni Directory development, Women
in Business, Student Advisory Board, networking events held quarterly
throughout the country, and in-residence (lodging, meals, hospitality,
computer lab assessments).

Course materials such as textbooks, coursepaks, and journals/publica-

tions are required for each course. The average cost for course materials
per course is ~$100.00.
