Come now let us reason together. We are challenged to be Bereans so test the spirits and search
the Scriptures preserved and handed down by the church in the wilderness to see if these things
are so. Study with a friend and pray for discernment because we are promised that wherever two
or three are gathered in Jesus’ Name, He is there. Encourage each other. Pray with and for each
other. May you be richly blessed as you study His Word.
“The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.” - (Job
33:4)
And Jesus proclaimed, “It is the Spirit that quickeneth (2227); the flesh profiteth nothing: the
words that I speak unto you, they are Spirit, and they are Life (2222).” - (John 6:63)
Quicken, Quickened, Quickeneth, Quickening, Made Alive, Life - Strong’s Greek 2227:
zōopoieō, to cause to live, make alive, give life, restore to life, endued with new and greater
powers of life, of seeds quickened into life, i.e. germinating, springing up, growing. (Zodhiates
Lexical Aids of the New Testament)
“For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the Just for the unjust, that He might bring us
to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened (2227) by the Spirit: by which also He
went and preached unto the spirits in prison; which sometime were disobedient, when once
the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few,
that is, eight souls were saved by water.” - (1 Peter 3:18-20)
“And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a
quickening (2227) Spirit.” “For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive
(2227).” “For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive
abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life (2222) by one, Jesus Christ.”
- (1 Corinthians 15:45, 22; Romans 5:17)
The previous verses show how in times past Christ by His Spirit preached to those who were in
“prison” or bondage to the flesh. Those living in the days of Noah are given as an example. Now
because of the death of the only begotten Son on the cross and His quickening by the Spirit of
His Father, we who believe will be made alive by that same Spirit through Christ.
“Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the
seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is
the father of us all, (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before Him whom
he believed, even God, who quickeneth (2227) the dead, and calleth those things which be
not as though they were. Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father
of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.” “Now we, brethren,
as Isaac was, are the children of promise.” - (Romans 4:16-18; Galatians 4:28)
For Abraham to become the father of Isaac, the promised seed by faith, He and Sarah first
needed to die to their flesh or carnal nature. It was only then that the seed in Sarah’s womb was
quickened into life. Isaac then being a type of Christ was born of the Spirit.

“So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the
Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of
Christ, he is none of His. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the
Spirit is life (2222) because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus
from the dead dwell in you, He that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken (2227)
your mortal bodies because of (KJV margin) His Spirit that dwelleth in you.” - (Romans 8:8-
11)
“Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness,
and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new Spirit
will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give
you an heart of flesh. And I will put My Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in My
statutes, and ye shall keep My judgments, and do them. And ye shall dwell in the land that I
gave to your fathers; and ye shall be My people, and I will be your God.” - (Ezekiel 36:25-28)
“Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” “And every
spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is
that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in
the world.” - (2 Corinthians 3:17; 1 John 4:3)
Here we learn just who the Spirit is and where it comes from. The Spirit of Him who raised up
Jesus from the dead is the Father, Who in turn gives the same Spirit to His son, which is then
given to us so that Christ may dwell in our hearts by faith. This truth is denied by the spirit of
antichrist and those who follow him.
“For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the
things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of
the world, but the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us
of God.” - (1 Corinthians 2:11-12)
Jesus Himself exclaimed, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the
Father, but by Me.” “For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth (2227) them; even
so the Son quickeneth (2227) whom He will… Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth My
word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life (2222), and shall not come into
condemnation; but is passed from death unto life (2222). Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is
coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that
hear shall live. For as the Father hath life (2222) in Himself; so hath He given to the Son to
have life (2222) in Himself;” - (John 14:6; John 5:21, 24-26)
Life - Strong’s Greek 2222: zoe, refering to the principle of the life in the spirit and soul, zoe
is the nobler word expressing the highest and best which Christ is. (Zodhiates Lexical Aids of
the New Testament)
Jesus made a solemn pronouncement to unbelievers, “And the Father Himself, which hath sent
Me, hath borne witness of Me. Ye have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His
shape. And ye have not His Word abiding in you: for whom He hath sent, Him ye believe not.

Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life (2222): and they are they
which testify of Me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life (2222).” - (John 5:37-40)
“Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto
everlasting life (2222), which the Son of man shall give unto you: for Him hath God the Father
sealed…For the bread of God is He which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life (2222)
unto the world.” - (John 6:27, 33)
“Then said they unto Him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. And Jesus said unto them, I am the
bread of life (2222); he that cometh to Me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on Me
shall never thirst…And this is the will of Him that sent Me, that every one which seeth the
Son, and believeth on Him, may have everlasting life (2222): and I will raise him up at the
last day. - (John 6:34-35, 40)
“As the living Father hath sent Me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth Me, even he
shall live by Me. This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did
eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.” - (John 6:57-58)
“Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on Me, believeth not on Me, but on Him that sent Me.
And he that seeth Me seeth Him that sent me. I am come a light into the world, that
whosoever believeth on Me should not abide in darkness…For I have not spoken of
Myself; but the Father which sent Me, He gave Me a commandment, what I should say, and
what I should speak. And I know that His commandment is life (2222) everlasting:
whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto Me, so I speak.” - (John 12:44-
46, 49-50)
As we read before in the words of Jesus, “It is the Spirit that quickeneth (2227); the flesh
profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are Spirit, and they are life (2222).” -
(John 6:63) The sad part is, as we stated before, there is the spirit of antichrist and his followers
who do not believe this truth, “But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from
the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.” - (John 6:64)
“Again, when I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; if he turn from his sin, and do that
which is lawful and right; if the wicked restore the pledge, give again that he had robbed,
walk in the statutes of life without committing iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die.” -
(Ezekiel 33:14-15)
“Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life (2222).” “Then Paul and
Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have
been spoken to you (the Jews): but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves
unworthy of everlasting life (2222), lo, we turn to the Gentiles. For so hath the Lord
commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be
for salvation unto the ends of the earth. And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and
glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life (2222) believed.” -
(Acts 5:20; Acts 13:46-48)
“See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil; In that I command
thee this day to love the Lord thy God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His
commandments and His statutes and His judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply:
and the Lord thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it…I call
heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death,
blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:”
(Deuteronomy 30:15-16, 19)

“Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken Thou me in Thy way…Behold, I
have longed after Thy precepts: quicken me in Thy righteousness…And I will delight myself
in Thy commandments, which I have loved…This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy
word hath quickened me…Quicken me after Thy lovingkindness; so shall I keep the
testimony of Thy mouth…I will never forget Thy precepts: for with them Thou hast
quickened me…I have inclined mine heart to perform Thy statutes alway, even unto the
end…Salvation is far from the wicked: for they seek not Thy statutes…Thy word is true from the
beginning: and every one of Thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.” - (Psalm 119:37,
40, 47, 50, 88, 93, 112, 155, 160)
“O Lord, by these things men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit: so wilt
Thou recover me, and make me to live.” - (Isaiah 38:16)
“Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by
the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life (2222).” -
(Romans 5:12-18)

“Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh
manifest the savour of His knowledge by us in every place. For we are unto God a sweet
savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish: to the one we are the savour
of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life (2222) unto life (2222). And who is sufficient
for these things?” - (2 Corinthians 2:14-16)
“And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;” “Holding forth the Word of Life (2222); that I
may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.”-
(Ephesians 4:23; Philippians 2:16)
Jesus promises, “He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will
not blot out his name out of the book of life (2222), but I will confess his name before My
Father, and before His angels.” - (Revelation 3:5)
“Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life
(2222), and may enter in through the gates into the city. And there shall in no wise enter into it any
thing that defileth, neither worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the
Lamb's book of life (2222).” - (Revelation 22:14; Revelation 21:27)
“But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love,
patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life (2222), whereunto
thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. I give thee
charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth (2227) all things, and Christ Jesus, who before
Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; that thou keep this commandment without spot,
unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:” - (1 Timothy 6:11-14)
