Remembering Dr. King
Simple, profound, and true was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream that we should be
judged, not by the color of our skin, but by the content of our character. The truth
he spoke of was a driving force in last year’s efforts to dismantle state sanctioned
discrimination here in Arizona. Working with Representative Steve Montenegro
I was pleased to lead the fight to place onto the ballot, and then to pass on Election
Day, the Arizona Civil Rights Initiative. The AZCRI was simple, yet its impact will
be far-reaching and long-lasting. No longer may the State of Arizona or its political
subdivisions discriminate in matters of education, employment, or public contracts.
The initiative will do more than protect the taxpayers from overpaying for projects, it restores equality
to the processes of college admissions, applying for jobs, or submitting bids for government contracts.
Dr. King would be proud of the progress Arizona has made and he would encourage us to continue to
lead the way towards a color-blind society that applies its laws fairly and uniformly on all of its citizens.

Defending the Tea Parties Stopping Westboro

Well it certainly didn’t take very long for liberal groups
to try to blame the Tea Party for the evil acts of one
insane man in Tucson ten days ago. I was immediately
vocal in my defense of these patriotic Americans who
we all know had nothing to do with those events. The
shooter was a committed leftist who read Karl Marx
and shared none of the values that our Tea Parties do.
Let us all be steadfast in our defense of these good
people and work to ensure that the lamestream media
is not allowed to rewrite history to suit their agenda.
Let us also continue to point out the hundreds of Tea
Party patriots from all over Arizona who drove to
Tucson to pay their respects at prayer services for the
fallen.
Among the many groups seeking publicity in the wake of
the Tucson shootings was the Westboro Baptist Church,
a group that seeks out funerals of soldiers as locations
from which to spread their hateful messages. They were
determined to so use the funeral of 9-year old Christina
Green, the youngest victim of the Tucson shooting,
as the scene for their next protest, so the Arizona
State Legislature voted unanimously to create a safe zone
around such events to allow families to grieve in private.
The bill was a wonderful example of Republicans
and Democrats working together to protect the good
and decent. Kudos to all who were involved and to our
Governor for signing the bill into law. Rest in peace
Christina Green and may God bless you and your family.
