IMBA (A-25)
REPORT
VISIT TO HONDA SIEL CARS LTD.

26 August 2009

NOIDA (GAUTAM BUDH NAGAR)

Amity School Of Business had organized an industrial visit for 26 students to the
HONDA SIEL CARS LTD. in Greater Noida on 26 August 2009. It started at 9:20 am when
the amity bus left with the students & 2 faculties accompanying them.

We reached at Honda Siel Ltd. at 10:00 am, we were given the guest identity cards
at the entrance & were taken to the reception from where we were guided to the training room
3 for the presentation.

Mr. Saadi Ali ( Head Planning ) gave us a brief presentation about the company, it’s
founder’s, it’s products, it’s mission, vision, the companies corporate social responsibility, the
product line of the company as well as about the production plant. He also answered to the
queries of the students about the company, product line, plant & future prospects of the
company.

Subsequently we were divided into two groups to be taken to the production unit by
two guides. We were first shown the layout of the plant. The guide explained us that the
production plant was divided into different departments like welding department, painting
department, assembly department & the quality check department.

At first we were taken to the Welding Department we it was told that it had four sub
divisions on the basis of the type of welding job undertaken by them:

• A ZONE: Welding of floor of vehicle.

• B ZONE: Welding of trunk & hood of the vehicle.

• C ZONE: Attachment of the side doors.

• D ZONE: Check of the welded parts.

After that we were shown the external view of the engine department. The management
of the company had prohibited any outsider from entering this department as it may lead to
some leakage of confidential information about the engine model & technology used in it. We
were told that the department was fully automated & there is minimal human action in the
assembly of the engine in the vehicle.

Next in line was the visit to the painting department where in each & every part of the
vehicle’s body is given a paint by automatic machines under controlled environment & the
check on the work is conducted by humans. The painting is done in a closed environment where
there is minimal presence of air & other molecules that hinder the accomplishment of the
process with minimal default. The students view was restricted only to the place where the
checks were conducted by humans on the painted body. Before the vehicle goes to the
accessories assembly department the side doors of the vehicle are detached. The accessories like
tires, interiors, the panel etc. all assembled by humans directly into place with utmost precision.

Now the vehicle completely assembled & painted moves to the Quality Check
Department. Here each & every part of the vehicle from engine to paint & both interior as well
as exterior are checked for the quality standards that have been set. There are both manual as
well as automatic checks that are conducted on the vehicles. The vehicles that pass the quality
check are then taken for a test ride. The test ride is conducted on different types of roads &
under different conditions. Those which pass the test ride is taken for the last process of shower
test to locate for any leakages in the car. All the superior quality cars are sent to the warehouse
which would be ultimately sent to the dealers for sales.

Those cars which do not pass the quality checks are kept aside in a different
warehouse where the engines of these vehicles are removed & the external body is sent for first
process of production i.e. to the molding centre.
Finally, before leaving the
organization we took some
photographs with our faculties & the
people who guided us in the
organization. Subsequently at 12:45
pm we boarded our bus back to our
college.

The industrial visit was the first

to be conducted in AMITY SCHOOL OF BUSINESS was a great success & a exhilarating
experience to the students who went for the visit.

This gave the students an inside outlook of a automobile production unit which no one
would have imagined to do it in there life time.

The visit also provided the students with excellent practical examples where the principles
of management were followed with utmost precision to attain a higher profitability. The
company not only explained us about how to become profitable but also how to maintain the
quality standard as well as to follow the environmental policies.

I would like to emphasize on the fact that I may be taken for many more industrial
visits conducted by the Amity School Of business.

I would also like to extend my heart felt thanks to the Director Prof. Alka Munjal, the
AII head MR. Jitendra Tomar ( Sr. Lecturer) & the faculties who accompanied us for the visit.
