Loopy Mitten Pattern

Materials
Set of 5.5mm needles
5mm crochet hook
Darning needle
Stitch Markers

Yarn
Mirasol Hapi in two contrasting colours (for the purpose of writing this pattern I
have chosen Ecru and Black one hank of each, this helps the pattern to stand
out and hopefully with make it easier to understand)
Or another aran weight yarn ( although you may need to adjust the needles to
obtain gauge)

Skills needed
Ability to, cat on using the long tail method,
Knit, Peal, increase, knit two stitches together,
slip stitches and Cast off.
The ability to crochet a seam.

Gauge
Knitted in the loopy two colour pattern on strait
needles
(Row 1: K1, S1, Row 2: K1,S1, Row 3, Knit all,
Row 4: pearl all.)
Stitches per 4 inches = 16.5
Row’s per 4 inches = 7.5

Pattern
Cast on 37 stitches in the lighter of your chosen colours (using the long tail
cast on method.
1. Slip first stitch, pearl to end
2. Slip First stitch, knit to end
3. Slip First stitch, Pearl to end
4. Add the darker colour to you working yarn, Slip the first stitch and K1,
P1 to the last two stitches, Knit the last two.
5. Repeat row 4
6. Slip the first stitch and Knit all
7. Slip the first stitch and pearl all
8. Pick up the lighter colour yarn (there is no need to cut and rejoin the
yarn) and repeat row’s 4-7 remembering to change the yarn colour at
the end of each four row set.
9. Refer to the decrease chart on the following page and repeat the
pattern until you reach the last loopy row as marked.

I have included this diagram so that the pattern is easily adaptable to your
needs, if you would like to make it shorter or longer it is possible to add or
remove lines.

On your last pearl row place the following markers... 14 sitiches in, then after
three stitches... so you have two markers placed in the middle ready for the
thumb increases.

1. Slip 1, knit to the first marker, knit 1, inc 1, knit 1, inc 1, knit to end.
2. Slip 1, p2tog, pearl to last three stitches, p2tog, pearl last one.
Black
3. Slip 1, knit to the first market, k1, inc 1, k3, inc 1, k1, knit to the end.
4. Slip 1, p2tog, pearl to last three stitches, p2tog, pearl last one.
White
5. Slip 1, knit to the first market, k1, inc 1, k5, inc 1, k1, knit to the end.
6. Slip 1, Pearl all
Black
7. Slip 1, knit to the first market, k1, inc 1, k7, inc 1, k1, knit to the end.
8. Slip 1, Pearl all
White
9. Slip 1, Knit all
10. Slip 1, Pearl all

11. Slip 1, Knit all

13. Slip 1, Knit to the first marker, Cast off to the next marker and remove
the stitch markers, now slip the last stitch from before the cast off over
the first stitch after the marker that you’ve just knitted (this makes the
join of thumb hole nice and tidy) knit to the end.

16. Slip 1, Pearl all
White
17. Slip 1, Knit all
18. Slip 1, Pearl all

Continue until the mitt measures the desired length, and then cast off… it is
best to cast off on a knit row (would be third row in a colour)

Joining and Crochet Detail - Weave in all of the loose ends, and fold the
gloves in half, right sides together.
Using the lighter colour yarn, crochet up the seam of your glove, and then
repeat on the second one. Make sure that you line the colours and stripes up,
if you have slipped the first stitch in each row you should have a nice neat line
of stitches to crochet together.

Crochet detail – when you have finished the seams and weaved in the ends
then it’s time to hide the seam and add some detail… to hide the seam
crochet up the join in the dark colour, weave in the ends and your finished!
