Main features

The Telewave product line of equipment for radio links

is the result of a specific project benefiting from years of
experience in the industry of telecommunications and in
particular of contribution and distribution of TV signals.
With this product, DMT proposes a solution compatible
with use in different application environments, open to
different standards and protocols, flexible in the
implementation of configurations and system
functionalities as well as easy to operate and to maintain.

Digital, with analog operation support Designed to satisfy the needs related to the
implementation of digital transport networks, both SDH
and PDH, Telewave maintains the capability to support
analog operation. FM modulation modules are available
and can be included in the system to operate with analog
TV signals: one Video and one to four Audio inputs.

Link configurations Telewave products are suitable to be used to efficiently

implement all the link configurations in use:

543.2 transmitter only, the other radio is receiver only);
475.3 - asymmetrically bi-directional (only digital: both radios

Bands, channels and capacity Frequency bands 5 to 23 GHz are covered, with channel
spacing of 14, 20 or 28 MHz. In digital configuration,
Telewave equipment for radio links supports E3, DS3 or
STM0 digital interfaces in the medium capacity (PDH)
version, with bit rates up to 51 Mbit/sec, whereas the high
capacity (SDH) version supports E4 and STM1 digital
interfaces, with bit rates up to 155 Mbit/sec.

The structure of Telewave equipment is based on plug- Modularity and Upgradeability / High power option
in boards, hosted in a 3U, 19” sub-rack module. System
function can be easily upgraded according to operational
needs by replacing the boards related to the function of
interest. For instance, this allows the operation channel
to be changed by keeping the same
modulation/demodulation boards and substituting the RF
up-converter and down-converter sections. In the same
way, replacement of the mod/demod sections allows the
system to be upgraded from analog to digital or from PDH
to SDH.
An additional high power amplifier is also available in a
separate 3 RU frame to enhance the output power.

Design features
Digital modulation scheme. For E3, DS3, STM0: 4
QAM or 16 QAM (software selectable). For E4, STM1: 256
QAM BCM.
Error correcting coding. For E3, DS3, STM0: Reed-Solomon
FEC with interleaver. For E4, STM1: Viterbi 1/2 + BCH FEC
with interleaver.
Adaptive baseband equalizer against channel distortion.
Auxiliary channels (option):
- (1) digital E1 stream,
- (2) asynchronous 9.6Kb/s and 8 contact closures.
option available only for E4/STM1: (4) digital channels 64
Kb/s (available only for E4/STM1).

Telewave is available in the following configurations: Mounting Structures and System configurations
- 3U full IDU Houses all analog, digital, IF and RF/wave
component sections;
- Split version consists of a 3U IDU housing all analog and
digital sections up;
to a 70 MHz IF cable interface and a ODU containing the
IF and RF/µwave components.
In the split version, the connection between IDU and ODU
is made by a single coaxial cable (RG216, 75 Ohm) with
a maximum separation of 300m, this also delivers diagnostic
and control signals and the power supply.
The system is capable of 1+1 redundancy hot stand by
(transmission) and/or hitless switching (reception) without
hardware modification (only for digital operation).

59
Local and remote diagnostics The system permits quick and easily accessible
programming of link settings and link monitoring. Local
access to main diagnostics is permitted by means of
the IDU-front pad or PC-Proprietary Management
Software. Clear and unequivocal fault location is
obtained through comprehensive diagnostic tools.
Remote access to main diagnostics through ALGORAB,
AntennaNord (optional) or SNMP (optional).

Control of the technological development of all According to the normal DMT approach, all
project components. technological components have been based on well
controlled development resources. Both the digital
modulation technology with all related issues and the
RF discipline are covered. This applies to the design
as well as to the development and test of the needed
firmware, software and hardware modules.

Easy to use, easy to maintain Special care was taken in the development of the
Telewave product line to simplify equipment use and
maintenance operations. Results of theise aims are the
following features:

Modularity: the system functions are associated with

separated modules in 3U vertical slots.
Plug & Play: global configuration is stored, protected
and downloaded at each start. Module replacement is
plug&play. Every change is detected by autoscan and
notified to the system control unit that requests the
new module configuration through the interface.
Man-machine interface user is friendly and versatile.
On the front panel, wide display, separate navigation
and editing keyboards and multilevel password
protection. Possibility to interact with Graphical User
Interface through laptop PC.
