Artifact: Mesopotamia Review Lesson (Clicker Quiz)

Technology Standard 2 - Personal and Professional Use of Technology


The competent teacher will apply tools for enhancing personal professional growth and
productivity; will use technology in communicating, collaborating, conducting research,
and solving problems and will promote equitable, ethical, and legal use of
computer/technology resources.

Technology Standard 2 is saying that I, as an educator in any grade, will utilize tools that will

help to enhance my personal professional growth and effectiveness. This standard says that I

will use technology for many different aspects of my responsibility as a teacher. Some of the

areas that I will use technology in are communication, collaboration, conducting research, and

problem solving. I will always promote right, ethical and legal use of these resources. More

specifically, this standard says that I understand how to use technology to facilitate lifelong

learning for my students with the use of collaborative learning environments. I will use the

computer and other leaning technologies to support them in problem solving, data collection,

management of information, communication, presentations, etc. I will also use relevant and

appealing technological programs to present information to the students.

2. Explain how the artifact you chose demonstrates your understanding and application of the
standard.

For this lesson, I formulated a quiz on the computer that is linked to clickers for the students to

use and answer the quiz questions in the form of a review game. This demonstrates my

understanding and application of the standard because, by creating a clicker quiz, the students

were involved in lifelong, collaborative learning enhanced by technology. I use technology to

engage the students in their learning and to communicate as teams to answer the quiz questions

correctly. The students were able to interact with one another and with the classroom technology

to enhance their learning and encourage their involvement in the unit review activity. I used the

technology in both an ethical and legal way. Using technology in my teaching urges the students

to utilize it in their learning as well.

This artifact has, indeed, been used in my practice, and even meeting the standard thus far, has

taught me the importance of catering to the needs of the students in their developing use of

technology in education. I would like to continue developing my understanding of this standard

by finding more and more resources to utilize in the classroom for purposes of communicating

with the students, and the students communicating with one another. I would like to create

presentations for the classroom using different technology and appealing to their love of

technology. I think I would also like to find technological resources where to help me with

organization and with lesson planning in a way that is relevant to the students. I look forward to

continuing to learn to infiltrate technology more and more in to my teaching and thus into my

students’ learning as well.

4. Conclude with a paragraph discussing how you are more prepared to Teach and Learn in a
Diverse Society as a result of satisfactorily meeting the standard.

As a result of satisfactorily meeting this standard, I feel more prepared to teach and learn in a

society of students from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds, learning backgrounds, and

learning styles. All students learn in different ways, and as a result of the technological boom in

our country, it is beginning to creep its way into the elementary and secondary classrooms. With

this new technology, there is more of an opportunity for all students to receive an education that

is personalized and helpful. I can use technology to help to develop accommodations for

students that need extra help or to help students to better focus. I can use technology as a way to

manage a classroom of racially or behaviorally diverse students as well. Meeting and continuing

to better meet this standard, will ensure my ability to be more of an effective teacher to a wider

variety of students.
