From the Desk of the Author~

Due to a series of traumatic experiences in my life, I suffered from depression starting around the
age of 17. Although I attempted suicide at the age of 18, afterwards I suffered in silence. I
never sought any type of help. According to a National Healthcare Quality Report from 2003, I
was not alone. “80% of depressed people are not currently having any treatment.” My husband
and I simply never discussed it. A 1996 survey taken about women and depression by NMHA
confirmed that, “41% of depressed women are too embarrassed to seek help.”

Seven years later, my life spiraled out of control and I ended up on a Psych ward for 3 days.
Because I was in the Military at the time, I was forced to see a Psychiatrist for 1 year, but I
refused to take any type of medication. The therapy sessions helped me to admit that I was
depressed and identified some of the underline causes for my self-destructive behavior.

However, for me, traditional therapy did not facilitate the holistic healing required to overcome
my tragic experiences. It would be another 6 years, before I discovered the cure for my
depression. What I discovered and how it changed my life forever is discussed in “Tragic
Treasures” Discovering Spoils of War in the Midst of Tragedy.”

~Warmest Regards, Dianne Rosena Jones

Insider Interview Questions

 Where are you from?

o I was born and raised in Norfolk, VA.

 What inspired you to write your first book?

o I’ve known since I was a teenager that I would write books. What type of book to
write took years to determine.

 What books, people or things have influenced your life most?

o I love books. Some of my favorite authors are Toni Morrison, Zora Neale
Hurston, and Maya Angelou. I also love self-help books. I’ve read too many to
mention.

 What are your current projects – tell us your latest news?

o I’ve started writing my next book entitled “FEAR: The Ultimate Weapon of Mass
Destruction.”

 Why did you write this book?

o I wrote this book to:
 Encourage others who are suffering in silence from depression
 Facilitate a candid and honest discussion about the effects of depression
 Offer an alternative method towards inner healing

 How did you come up with the title of your new book?
o The title evolved as I wrote the book. I wanted to change the way we think of
tragedies. Tragic Treasures became two sides of the same coin: something painful
but priceless and precious at the same time.

 What was one of the most surprising things you learned in writing this book?
o I was surprised to find that I could use humor to describe a tragic moment.

 Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?
o All those I’ve heard from say my book is refreshingly candid and very
inspirational. They highly recommend it to others.

 What is a surprising fact that people don’t know about you?

o When I was in the Military stationed in Germany, I was in charge of the Arms
Room [where they kept the weapons] for 3 ½ years.
