Each propulsion plant shall comprise a 4-stroke turbocharged medium speed diesel engine,
driving one controllable pitch propeller via reduction gearbox.
Note 1:
An automatic overload protection (fixed pitch reduction) shall be arranged for operation with
turbocharger air suction temperatures between 45°C and 55°C. The pitch reduction shall be
approx. 5% of MCR. (Value to be confirmed by engine maker).
Flexible couplings
Flexible couplings to be provided by engine supplier as follows:
• Main engine – Main reduction gear
• Main reduction gear – Shaft generator
• Main engine – Gear for Fi-Fi pump
Type of couplings and size of flywheel shall be decided based in approved torsion vibration
calculations.
