Prerequisites:
o Gather hardware requirement from customer/project architect/project
manager,
o Gather OS and other information from customer by sending them
"New Unix Server Doc Template.doc" document and having them fill it
out as much as they can,
o Request IP addresses from the DNS and IP Assignment Team through
DMR request:
o Primary IP
o TSM IP
o Service IP (HA cluster)
o Any additional IPs (i.e. TSM server), and
o Request cabling from the Facilities team if the required cables are not
connected yet:
o Primary cable
o Secondary cable (ether channel purpose)
o TSM cable
o Heartbeat cable (HA cluster)
o Any additional cables (i.e. TSM server).
Server Build:
o Connect to HMC using WebSM and carved up the LPAR if the server
used is not a standalone system,

Navigate through HMC to go to the appropriate frame

Provide a name for the partition then click Next

Name your profile default then click Next
Assign min, desired, and max memory. Min and desired should be the
same. Max should be twice the min. Click Next

Choose shared if you want to microparition your LPAR. Dedicated
otherwise. Click Next.
Assign min, desired, and max processor. Min and desired should be

the same. Max should be twice the min. Click Next
Assign IO. Each LPAR should have at least 1 SCSI bus controller, 2
Ethernet adapters, and 2 fibre adapters. Make sure the Ethernet
adapters and the fibre adapters are located in different IO drawers to
ensure redundancy. Click Next

Ignore this screen. Click Next

Ignore this screen for now. Click Next

Choose Normal and then click Next

o Configure the NIM server:
o Add host and IP of the server in the host table (/etc/hosts),

o Add the server object in NIM configuration: smitty nim_mkmac
Assign name to the object. The name should be the server name

o Assign the GI mksysb object, SPOT resource, and lpp_source to
the server object: smitty nim_task_inst

Choose mksysb – Install from a mksysb

o Using the HMC console, boot the server to SMS menu,
o Configure the network boot adapter and run the ping test

First configure the IP parameters by choosing option 1
Fill out all the information. Use the appropriate IP for NIM server

Go back to the network parameter menu and choose option 2. Then
configure the speed (option 1) to auto-auto and disable spanning tree

the ping

o Network boot the server and start the mksysb image deployment.
Go back to main menu and choose option 5 to select boot option then
select option 1 to select install/boot device

Select option 6 to boot from network

Select option 2 (normal mode boot)

The packet count should start going up

Select 1 to use the terminal as a console

Select option 2 to verify installation settings

Select 0 once you verify the disks to use

Watch as the installation progresses until completion
