Dear Parishioners,
Today we celebrate the feast
of the Baptism of the Lord!
He was baptized in order to
make the waters of baptism
Holy for us. By our Baptism
we enter the Church, the
Holy People of God. What
an honor for each one of us
to enter this society that
makes up the Mystical Body
of Christ. It is our task to
reveal Jesus to the world, to
spread the Gospel.
There is more than one way
to serve in the ministry of sharing our faith with others. We
should look at every church activity as having somewhere in it
the possibility of entering into a deeper friendship with the
Lord, and having the potential for us to bring someone new to
Jesus. What an enormous opportunity!
God has placed us all together in this place and in this moment
in time for a reason. There are no accidents. Together we will
see the presence of God as we worship and as we spread the
Gospel message. But we must do it together. I don’t have all
the ideas about how this can be accomplished. But Jesus is pre-
sent and active in his Church and he wants us to know what we
should be doing. He has sent the Holy Spirit to each of us to
help us realize his love and his plan for our individual lives.
I am, therefore, asking you to dream and to dream big. What
would you like to see happening at Mary, Mother of Jesus
Church? Don’t be afraid of thinking of something new or differ-
ent. What would you like to do?
Toward that end, I am hoping to visit the homes of all the fami-
lies in the parish. My main goal is to get to know you better.
But I would also like for you to share your ideas about how we
can make Mary, Mother of Jesus Church a better place to wor-
ship God.

WINTER MISSION IN BUNKIE
St. Anthony Church in Bunkie will present a winter
mission entitled Massive Exchange: Changing the Old
for the New with Mike Chiasson. The mission will be
held Thursday and Friday, January 13 and 14 at
6:00 pm. Everyone is invited to experience an awak-
ening through vision, purpose and passion. Come get
inspired and dream big! Childcare will be available.
AMICUS CLUB RODEO
The 49th Annual Amicus Club Rodeo
will be held Friday and Saturday,
January 21-22, 2011 at the Rapides
Parish Coliseum at 7:30 pm both
nights and also at 2:00 pm on Satur-
day. Tickets are $10. All proceeds will
benefit St. Mary’s Residential Training School.

CATHEDRAL CONCERT SERIES
The St. Francis Xavier Cathe-
dral Music Concert Series will
present “Amahl and the Night
Visitors” on Sunday, January
16 at 7:30 pm. The concert is
free and open to the public.
DAY OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY
The Diocese of Alexandria and the Epis-
copal Diocese of western Louisiana will
host a major ecumenical service in rec-
ognition of the nationwide Week of
Prayer for Christian Unity. The
2011 prayer event will be hosted at St.
James Episcopal Church in Alexan-
dria on Thursday, January 20 at 7:00 pm. Catho-
