As Muslims, all of us regularly recite the Holy Quran and eagerly seek ways to
learn its meanings.
In Surah Fathiha, the opening chapter of the Holy Quran, we recite;
So, we ask the questions, who are these favored people - the “Anghamtha
alaihim” – those whom Allah guides on the straight path as well as those on
whom Allah has bestowed his Grace.
An important source for seeking and learning is the Holy Quran itself.
The second Surah in the Quran, Surah Baqara, which is the Surah
immediately after Surah Fathiha, begins as follows;
1
MinRabbihim’ (those who are guided by their Rabb) and the ‘Muflihoon’ (those
who are successful).
Quite often in the Quran we hear the words Muthaqoon, Sadiqeen, Muflihoon,
Sabireen, Muhsineen, Mutawakkileen and so on.
This is how Allah Ta’ala describes good people. We also see in the Holy Quran
phrases such as;
We are really curious about these categories of people that Allah has
described.
Ibn Abbas Radhiallaho Anho says: “Allah Ta’ala says in Surah Najm (53:37),
praising Ibrahim Alaihissalaam:
(53:37) and of Ibrāhīmwho fulfilled (his duties)? ﴾٣٧﴿ َوِإْبَراِهيَم اّلِذيَوّف ٰى
The Ayath means that Ibrahim Alaihissalaam fulfilled all that Islam demands.
Ten of these Sihaam have been indicated in Surah Tauba in the Verses; (111
-112)
Innallah Hashtharaa minal Mu’mineena Anfusahum Wa Amwaalahum bi anna
lahumul Jannah.
Surely, Allah has bought their lives and their wealth from the believers, in
exchange of (a promise) that Paradise shall be theirs

Ten others have been recounted in Surah Ahzaab in the Verse No 35

The description of four others occurs in Surah Ma’arij in the Ayath No’s 26 –

Wallazeena Yu Sadhiqoona Bi Yaumidh Dheen
Those who believe in the Day of Judgement as True
Whosoever meets his Lord (On the Day of Judgment), after having fulfilled
one of these obligations, will be deemed to have practiced one thirtieth part
of Islam.
All these 30 Sihaam require more explaining, but since this program is a very
short one I shall only identify them. Insha Allah we pray that this program
becomes a cause of motivating all of us to apply ourselves to learning more
about these Sihaam.

and strive to bring those qualities into our lives which would qualify us to be
called by Allah Ta’ala by all these Sihaam – Ameen
