5.1 Module 1:
Sessions 1-3
Weightage 15%
The session involves the combinations of lecture, discussion and application problems.
4
5.2 Module 2:
Weightage 20%
Students are expected to know basic mathematics, fundamentals of statistics, and concepts of
mean, median and mode.
The session includes lectures and problems involving changes in a set of parameters that can affect
the other set of parameters, which result in changes in decision making.
5.3 Module 3
A) To learn how many decisions depend on knowing the specific relationships between two or
more variables
B) To use Scatter diagrams to visualize the relationships between two variables
C) To use regression analysis to estimate the relationship between two variables
5
D) To learn how correlation analysis describes the degree in which two variables are linearly
related to each other
E) To understand the coeifficient of determination as a measure of the strength and relationship
between two variables
Students are expected to know linear relations between two variables and graphical representation
of the same.

5.4 Module 4
Sessions 16-18
Weightage 20%
A) To learn why forecasting changes takes place over a time are an important part of decision
making
B To understand the four components of a time series
C) To use regression based techniques to estimate and forecast the trend in a time series
D) To learn how to measure the cyclical component of a time series
E) To deal simultaneously with all four components of a time series analysis for forecasting
Students are expected to know basic mathematical theory of equations and relationship between
dependent and independent variables
The session involves the lectures and problems (treated as case studies) for forecasting future
events based on mathematical techniques, which are crucial in decision making
.
