ABSTRACT

“A Comparative Study Regarding Perceptions on

Nursing Conduct of Admitted Patients in Selected

Government Hospitals in Pampanga”

This study was chosen by the researchers to determine the

perception of patients in selected government hospitals in

Pampanga about nursing conduct. Specifically, it sought to answer

the following problems: what is the profile of the respondents as to

their age, gender, economic status and educational attainment;

what is the degree of satisfaction of the patients with the nursing

conduct they perceived as to; standards of care, therapeutic

communication, patient advocate, assessment and monitoring of

patients health; and there is a significant difference on the degree of

perception on nursing conduct by the respondents at the selected

government hospitals in Pampanga.

The researchers used a descriptive quantitative method

because this method establishes through the study of what is

prevalent. This method is most concerned on the information which

iii
is related to a present event. The researchers used this kind of

method because it is fact finding in nature.

Based on the findings, the distribution of the questionnaires to

the respondents as of location there were fifty-nine (59) respondents

composed of all the patients admitted in medicine ward of Jose B.

Lingad Memorial General Hospital, Ospital Ning Angeles and

Mabalacat District Hospital.

With 11 selected patients in Mabalacat District Hospital

majority of the respondents belong to the age group from 35 -65

with a percentage of 54.55% or 6 respondents, the sex frequency

shows that the highest percentage or most of the respondents are

females with a percentage of 54.55% or having 6 respondents.

Majority of the respondents are from the poor status gaining 7

(81.82%) out of 11, most of the respondents are high school

graduates which has respondents of 7 or 63.64%. It was also noted

that the longer the respondents stayed in the hospital the more

chance they describe the hospital situation properly.

With 18 selected respondents in Ospital Ning Angeles majority

of them belongs to the age group from 19 - 35 with a percentage of

61.11% or 11 respondents, the sex frequency shows that the

highest percentage of the respondents are females with a

percentage of 55.56% or having 10 respondents. Majority of the

iv
respondents are from the poor status gaining 13(72.22%) out of 18,

most of the respondents are high school graduate which has

respondents of 15 or 83.33%.

With 30 patients who responded to the questionnaire in Jose

B. Lingad Mermorial Hospital majority of them belongs to the age

group from 19 - 35 with a percentage of 53.33% or 16 respondents,

the sex frequency shows that the highest percentage or most of the

respondents are males with a percentage of 56.67% or having 71

respondents. Majority of the respondents are from the poor status

gaining 18(60%) out of 30, most of the respondents are high school

graduate which has respondents of 21 or 70%.

As to the different practices respondents respond properly, the

mean revealed that the respondents in Mabalacat District Hospital

were satisfied with the different statements under nursing conduct,

in which the average mean is 2.84, while respondents from Ospital

Ning Angeles were very satisfied to nursing conduct they perceived

with average mean of 3.52, and respondents in Jose B. Lingad

Memorial General Hospital were very satisfied to nursing conduct

with average mean of 3.20.

According to the results of the comparison on the perception

in nursing conduct of our respondents in different selected

government hospitals in Pampanga there is a significant difference

v
on the degree of perception on nursing conduct by the respondents

at the selected government hospitals.

Therefore, the researchers conclude that respondents in

selected government hospitals in Pampanga have their own way

how they perceived nursing conduct that they observed in their

environment. Nurses should assure the quality of education,

providing nurses a competent attitude appropriate to medicine ward

especially in government hospitals. This study is considerable to

nursing profession; the researchers recommend that the nurse on

duty in medicine ward must be very understanding, patient, and

considerate in rendering services. Providing not only the quality

nursing care but also therapeutic care, especially in caring for the

patient confined in government hospitals particularly in medicine

ward.
