The WireSpan 3000 units support the functions of stuffing, scrambling, keep-alive signal
and out-of-service test to make the output signal of both directions meeting the application
requirements and facilitate efficient sectionalize of system problem.
WireSpan 3000 devices provide an embedded operations channel (EOC) within the SHDSL
data streams, which enables end-to-end system management and supervision. The EOC
operating is meet sections 9.5 of ITU-T Rec. G.991.2.
The slave unit, located at the remote end of the link, is calling SHDSL Transceiver Unit -
Remote (STU-R).
WireSpan 3000 devices support both the STU-C and the STU-R operating modes; the actual
operating mode (STU-C or STU-R) is user-selectable.
1-7 Management
The management capabilities can be used to configure the WireSpan 3000 device
parameters and display status (alarm/events) messages, diagnostics information,
performance monitoring data (RTC), and test status, on-line log more than 100 items.
These functions are performed through a serial RS-232 port that enables serial

communication with a supervision terminal. Any “dump” ASCII terminal connected to the
Console port of WireSpan 3000 device (or a PC running a terminal emulation program),
controlled by the program stored in the WireSpan 3000 device, can be used as a
supervision terminal. The OS interface is base on 10/100 Base-T Ethernet interface with
RJ-45 connector.
WireSpan 3000 version also supports the telnet protocol, which enables remote
management using the same screen of supervision terminal. We provided SNMP agent for
Customer’s EMS management software to manage WS3000 devices. User also could be to
manage WS3000 devices by use ATRIE NMS-View management software.
WireSpan 3000 devices take advantage of this characteristic to expedite the configuration,
management and supervision tasks related to the remote device. They are transferred
(Downloaded) from the local device configured as local unit configured as remote, using
EOC channel.
WireSpan 3000 devices offer selectable timing options, which enable the distribution of
timing over the G.SHDSL system, from the central (STU-C) to the remote end (STU-R). All
timing architecture (clock architecture) is complies with section 10 of ITU-T Rec. G.991.2
Clock Architecture, Refer to Table 1-1.
The WireSpan 3000 units provided the transmit symbol clock during “data mode” can be
accurate to within ±30 ppm of the nominal frequency at all rates. If the WireSpan 3000
units loses user setting clock source, the STU-C or STU-R will fall back and use the local
oscillator automatically. The local oscillator always provided the accuracy to ±30 ppm. Of
nominal frequency.

Diagnostics and Troubleshooting
5-1 General
This chapter describes the WireSpan 3000 diagnostics functions, which include:
Status indications and alarms - Section 5.2
Performance diagnostic - Section 5.3
Diagnostic loops - Section 5.4
Power-up self-test - Section 5.5
Section 5.6 provides some tips on troubleshooting
5-2-2 Alarms
WireSpan 3000 continuously checks if any alarm condition is present and generates a
corresponding alarm message.
WireSpan 3000 maintain an alarm buffer, which can store a minimum of 40 alarms.
(SHCOT: 40 x16 Channels of alarms) Messages displayed on the console terminal have a
similar syntax. Table 5-1 presents in alphabetical order the alarm messages displayed on
the console terminal, and lists the actions required to correct the alarm condition.

5-3-1 General
WireSpan 3000 has two capabilities for collection of performance statistics: E1 and DSL
performance monitoring capability. The performance parameters are settable. When the
Wirespan 3000 recognizes a threshold crossing for a given parameter, a threshold crossing
notification will be generated and reported to Console and SNMP agent/ATRIE NMS-View.
5-2
WireSpan 3000User’s Manual Version 2.0
All stored performance data is accessible and cleared from Console and SNMP agent/ATRIE
NMS-View.
WireSpan 3000 also provides support for long-term statistics gathered over the long-term
interval (96 15-minute intervals, i.e., a total of 24 hours) for the E1 port. The additional
parameters included in this class are:
5-3
WireSpan 3000User’s Manual Version 2.0
Unavailable second is a count of 1-second intervals for which the DSL line is
unavailable. The DSL line becomes unavailable at the onset of 10 contiguous SESs.
Once unavailable, the DSL line becomes available at the onset of 10 contiguous with
no SESs. . This parameter always followed ITU-T G.991.2 Section 9.3.5
The same parameters are also available over 24-hour interval (long-term statistics).
The user-controlled test functions of Wirespan 3000 series consist of the following

WireSpan 3000User’s Manual Version 2.0
You can access these loopback from the “Main->Diagnostics” Menu. The following
paragraphs describe the loopback, identified by their designation displayed on the Console
terminal Command. LLB/DLB and RLB also can executed via push buttons at rear panel.
The near end loopback is formed by connecting the transmit signal, provided by the user
port interface. During the loopback, the local Wirespan 3000 series device continues
sending the data to the DSL link if loop is up. The test signal is provided by the DTE path of
the user interface, which must receive its own transmission without error while the
loopback is activated. The user interface must be E1.
This test is generally used to check the connections between the DTE and Wirespan3000

series device.
5-7
WireSpan 3000User’s Manual Version 2.0
This loopback can check the operation of the local Wirespan 3000 series device (without
the DSL line interface) and connections to the local DTE. The user interface maybe is E1 or
V.35.
Notes While this loop is active, WireSpan 3000 series device would be to lose DSL
synchronization.
The remote loopback is performed by internally connecting the DSL framer receive signal to
the input of the DSL AFE transmit path.
This test fully checks the data link, including the cables connecting the two units to the DSL
loop, the transmit path connecting the two unit, and the cable connecting the DTE to the
local WireSpan 3000 series device.
Note This loop is available only for DSL loop as activated, and both devices DSL

The payload loopback is performed by internally connecting the user port interface receive
signal to the input of transmit path of remote unit. The received data signal remains
connected to the remote user’s DTE. The test signal is provided by the local user’s DTE,
which must receive its own transmission without errors while the loopback is activated.
This test fully checks the data link, including the cables connecting the two units to the DSL
loop, the transmit path connecting the two units, and the cable connecting the DTE to the
user port interface of the local WireSpan 3000 series device.
Note This loop is available only for DSL loop as activated, and both devices DSL
operation state is in data mode.

WireSpan 3000User’s Manual Version 2.0
The V.35 loopback is performed by internally connecting the V.35 port interface receive
signal to the input of transmit path of remote unit. The received data signal remains
connected to the remote user’s DTE. The test signal is provided by the local user’s DTE,
which must receive its own transmission without errors while the loopback is activated.
This test fully checks the data link, including the cables connecting the two units to the DSL
loop, the transmit path connecting the two units, and the cable connecting the DTE to the
V.35 port interface of the local WireSpan 3000 V.35 version device.
Note This loop is available only for DSL loop as activated, and both devices DSL
operation state is in data mode.
Note The remote loopback by V.54 is meeting ITU-T V.54 standard. But not included
address phase state.

WireSpan 3000User’s Manual Version 2.0
The local DSL analog loopback is formed by connecting the analog DSL transmit signal
provided by the DSL framer circuits to the input of the DSL framer receive path, thereby
replacing the signals received by the DSL line interfaces. The test signal is provided by DTE
connected to the user port interface, which must receive its own transmission without
errors while the loopback is activated. The DSL loop will be disconnection automatic, if DSL
loop is link-up.
This loopback can check the operation of the local Wirespan 3000 series device (without
the DSL line interface) and connections to the local DTE. The user interface maybe is E1 or
V.35, None suggest used in Ethernet interface. Almost this function is for factory testing
only.
