3-3 SNMP Management Information Base (MIB)

3-3-1 SNMP Principles

The SNMP management protocol (version 1 / RFC 1157) is an asynchronous command
response polling protocol: all the management traffic, except for trap messages, is initiated
by the SNMP-base network management station, which addresses the managed entities in
its management domain. Only the addressed managed entity answers the polling of the
management station. The managed entities include a function called an “SNMP agent”,
which is responsible for interpretation and handling of the management station requests to
the managed entity, and the generation of properly-formatted responses to the
management station.

3-3-2 MIB Structure

5-3 Performance Diagnostics Data

5-3-1 General
WireSpan 3000 has two capabilities for collection of performance statistics: E1 and DSL
performance monitoring capability. The performance parameters are settable. When the
Wirespan 3000 recognizes a threshold crossing for a given parameter, a threshold crossing
notification will be generated and reported to Console and SNMP agent/ATRIE NMS-View.

5-2
WireSpan 3000User’s Manual Version 2.0

All stored performance data is accessible and cleared from Console and SNMP agent/ATRIE
NMS-View.

5-3-2 E1 Performance Monitoring

This section first describes the principles and parameters of the E1 and DSL performance
monitoring for information on displaying the performance data from the console terminal,
see Chapter 5. This function only shows in E1+Ethernet version devices.

z Error seconds ( E1 ES)

An error second is any second containing one or more CRC error events or one or
more controlled slip event. The data is collected for the current 15-minute
interval.

z Severely error seconds ( E1 SES)

A SES is a second with 832 or more CRC error events, or one or more LOF events.
The data is collected for the current 15-minute interval.

z Unavailable seconds ( E1 UAS)

An unavailable second is any second in which a failed signal state exists. A failed
signal state is declared when 10 consecutive severely error seconds (SES) occur,

This section describes the performance evaluation and monitoring functions provided by
WireSpan 3000 with respect to the DSL transmission performance on loop.

The DSL performance monitoring parameters are listed below:

  Error seconds (Loop ES)

An error second is defined as a count of 1-second interval during which one or more
CRC anomalies are declared and/or one or more LOSW defects are declared. This
parameter is subject to inhibiting during UAS. Inhibiting shall be retroactive to the
onset of unavailable time and shall end retroactively to the end of unavailable time.
This parameter always followed ITU-T G.991.2 Section 9.3.2.

  Severely error second (Loop SES)

A severely error second is defined as a count of 1-second intervals during which at
least 50 CRC anomalies are declared or one or more LOSW defects are declared. (50
CRC anomalies during a 1-second interval is equivalent to a 30% error frame rate for
a nominal frame length). This parameter is subject to inhibiting during UAS.
Inhibiting shall be retroactive to the onset of unavailable time and shall end
retroactively to the end of unavailable time. This parameter always followed ITU-T
G.991.2 Section 9.3.3

  Unavailable second (Loop UAS).

5-4-2 Near End Loopback (NLB)

When activated, the local user port loopback returns the signal received from the user port.

The near end loopback is formed by connecting the transmit signal, provided by the user
port interface. During the loopback, the local Wirespan 3000 series device continues
sending the data to the DSL link if loop is up. The test signal is provided by the DTE path of
the user interface, which must receive its own transmission without error while the
loopback is activated. The user interface must be E1.

This test is generally used to check the connections between the DTE and Wirespan3000

series device.

Figure 5-1 Near End Loopback

5-4-3 Local Loopback (LLB)
When activated, the local DSL loopback returns the signal received from the DTE, after
pass through the user port interface and the DSL Framer and DSL DSP unit of the WireSpan
3000.
The local DSL loopback is formed by connecting the analog DSL transmit signal provided by
the DSL AFE circuits to the input of the DSL AFE receive path, thereby replacing the signals
received by the DSL line interfaces. The test signal is provided by DTE connected to the
user port interface, which must receive its own transmission without errors while the
loopback is activated. The DSL loop will be disconnection automatic, if DSL loop is link-up.

5-7
WireSpan 3000User’s Manual Version 2.0

Figure 5-2 shows a typical local loopback.

This loopback can check the operation of the local Wirespan 3000 series device (without
the DSL line interface) and connections to the local DTE. The user interface maybe is E1 or
V.35.
Notes While this loop is active, WireSpan 3000 series device would be to lose DSL
synchronization.

5-4-4 Remote loopback (RLB by EOC)

When the remote loopback is activated, the DSL framer of the remote appliance returns the
received data signal toward the DTE connected to the user port interface of the local
WireSpan 3000 series device.

The remote loopback is performed by internally connecting the DSL framer receive signal to
the input of the DSL AFE transmit path.

This test fully checks the data link, including the cables connecting the two units to the DSL
loop, the transmit path connecting the two unit, and the cable connecting the DTE to the
local WireSpan 3000 series device.

Figure 5-3 shows a typical Remote loopback by EOC

Note This loop is available only for DSL loop as activated, and both devices DSL

operation state is in “Data mode”.

5-4-5 Payload loopback (PLB by EOC)
When the payload loopback is activated, the data channel interface of the remote unit
returns the received data signal toward the DTE connected to the user port interface of the
local WireSpan 3000 series device.

The payload loopback is performed by internally connecting the user port interface receive
signal to the input of transmit path of remote unit. The received data signal remains
connected to the remote user’s DTE. The test signal is provided by the local user’s DTE,
which must receive its own transmission without errors while the loopback is activated.

Figure 5-4 shows a typical Payload loopback by EOC

This test fully checks the data link, including the cables connecting the two units to the DSL
loop, the transmit path connecting the two units, and the cable connecting the DTE to the
user port interface of the local WireSpan 3000 series device.

Note This loop is available only for DSL loop as activated, and both devices DSL
operation state is in data mode.

5-9
WireSpan 3000User’s Manual Version 2.0

5-4-6 Payload loopback (PLB by V.54)

This loopback is valid only for WireSpan 3000 V.35 version device at both end to end points.
When the V.54 loopback is activated, the data channel interface of the remote unit returns
the received data signal toward the DTE connected to the V.35 port interface of the local
WireSpan 3000 series device.

The V.35 loopback is performed by internally connecting the V.35 port interface receive
signal to the input of transmit path of remote unit. The received data signal remains
connected to the remote user’s DTE. The test signal is provided by the local user’s DTE,
which must receive its own transmission without errors while the loopback is activated.

Figure 5-5 shows a typical Remote loopback by V.54

This test fully checks the data link, including the cables connecting the two units to the DSL
loop, the transmit path connecting the two units, and the cable connecting the DTE to the
V.35 port interface of the local WireSpan 3000 V.35 version device.

Note This loop is available only for DSL loop as activated, and both devices DSL
operation state is in data mode.

Note The remote loopback by V.54 is meeting ITU-T V.54 standard. But not included
address phase state.

5-4-7 LAL LOCAL ANALOG LOOPBACK (LAL)

Figure 5-6 shows a typical Local Analog Loopack

The local DSL analog loopback is formed by connecting the analog DSL transmit signal
provided by the DSL framer circuits to the input of the DSL framer receive path, thereby
replacing the signals received by the DSL line interfaces. The test signal is provided by DTE
connected to the user port interface, which must receive its own transmission without
errors while the loopback is activated. The DSL loop will be disconnection automatic, if DSL
loop is link-up.

This loopback can check the operation of the local Wirespan 3000 series device (without
the DSL line interface) and connections to the local DTE. The user interface maybe is E1 or
V.35, None suggest used in Ethernet interface. Almost this function is for factory testing
only.

5-4-8 DATA LOOPBACK (DLB)

Figure 5-7 shows a typical l Data Loopack

This test fully checks the data link (including the cables connecting the two units to the DSL
loop), the transmit path connecting the two units, and the cable connecting the DTE to the
remote unit. This function usually used for factory testing purpose.

5-12
WireSpan 3000User’s Manual Version 2.0

5-4-9 LDL LOCAL DIGITAL LOOPBACK (LDL)

When the core loopback is activated on the local WireSpan 3000 series device, the DSL DSP
of local WireSpan 3000 series device returns the received data signal toward the DTE
connected to user’s port of the remote WireSpan 3000 series device.

Figure 5-8 shows a typical lLocal Digital Loopack

This test fully checks the data link (including the cables connecting the two units to the DSL
loop), the transmit path connecting the two units, and the cable connecting the DTE to the
remote unit.

5-4-10 Test Pattern

This testing function can be applies to RLB and PLB loopback function. When activated, the
console terminal will show error count. This testing also can execute (Send Test Pattern)
like BERT without any loopback.

This testing purpose is to check the DSL loops performance via BER testing.

5-4-11 Operating Loopbacks

Before starting the execution of a test, note that you should activate only one loopback at a
time. To activate or deactivate a specific test, use “Main->Diagnostics” menu option to
execute. If after execute any one of loopback, then the LL/DL LED still is OFF state. And
console terminal is shown in “Diagnostics” menu screen. It’s present user‘s configuration is
