Purpose of Assessment Centre

The purpose of the assessment centre is to give you a clear understanding of what working for
Schlumberger as a field engineer is like.
The Career paths, Lifestyle, Technologies, working conditions and Compensation will be covered in
detail.
Remember the Assessment centre is mutual. At the end of the day you should leave with a clear
understanding with all of your questions answered.

Preparation

You will be required to deliver a 5-minute self presentation. You will not be allowed to run over
time. Please prepare the 3 mandatory items and 2 more from the optional items. You will need to
prepare PowerPoint slides for your presentation (Max 5 slides). These must be emailed to
gstage@slb.com no later than 1 pm on Wednesday 1 December 2010. If the file is large, please
save in a zip file. If all else fails, please bring it on a USB drive.

Presentation Items

Mandatory (i.e. must be answered by all candidates):

1. Present your personal background.

My name is Alice Maredza.I am 22years old. I currently reside in London
where I am doing some voluntary work as a tutor. I am currently taking my driving
license and I am hoping to take my practical test in 3weeks and my educational background is GCSE, A-
level then off to university at London Southbank. I have a Bachelors degree in Petroleum Engineering.
I gt my first job in 2004 when I was doing my GCSEs. The job was a part time role as a Genaral
Assistants at a Nursing Home in Emsworth in Hampshire,then I moved to study in London were I gt a job
wuth Caoita Agency as an agency staff.during summer holidays I also work at a Family HoteL abroad
doing odd jobs
My featured skills are various, and I speak a bit of French and English.
My activities and interests include Kickboxin swimming and I also play netball for my university team

2. At a personal level, describe a single quality that your consider to be your major
strength. Explain why this is your major strength and how it helps you achieve your

3. Take a look at your educational life to date. Specifically what inspired you and why did it
inspire you? What inspired me to become a teacher was my experience All these factors
motivated me to leave that job and to concentrate in school to pursue a career. This
experience made me open my eyes and see that many other people are in the same
situation I was in and settle for jobs with poor working conditions because they need
the money in order to pay for their expenses, and have no other choice since they
don’t have an education. I realized that I do have another choice, to go to college
and be someone important in the future, be my own boss or at least be treated with
respect.

5. What attracts you the most and the least to the Schlumberger positions you have in
mind?

6. What do your expect from the initial years of your professional life and what “prices” are
you prepared to pay? Name the one thing you are not willing to sacrifice.

 7. At a personal level describe a single quality that you consider to be your major
weakness. Explain why this is a weakness and how improving it would help your
achieve your goals.

8. Describe your most difficult personal decision to date. What made it difficult and how
has it affected you?

• Degree certificate
• Contact details for references. References should be your professor at the university or a
manager at your most recent workplaces.

Schlumberger will reimburse any reasonable expenses, all items must be backed up with original
receipts. Please consider all travel options and do what you think is most sensible.

Please do not drive more than 1 hour or 60 miles to this Assessment Centre.
