Va’Yechi

And He Lived.
Gen. 47:28 – 50:26.

I. This Torah portion ends the account of the Life of Jacob, yet launches
us into the exile and future deliverance of Israel as a People. These portend
future events and reveal not only the dealings of YHVH with His People, but
also, the 2nd coming of Messiah! As with every previous encounter – the
numbers given us also add clarity for those willing to pursue the lead. This
Parsha begins with just that – a set of strategically placed numbers! Unleash
the hounds!!!

And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years: so the whole age
of Jacob was an hundred forty and seven years.

Vayechi Ya'akov be'erets Mitsrayim shva esreh shanah vayehi yemey-
Ya'akov shney chayav sheva shanim ve'arba'im ume'at shanah.

Let’s look first at the number 17: This number is unique; it is a prime
number, is not a multiple of any other number and thus, has no factors. It is
the 7th or Sabbath of the Prime numbers – 1,3,5,7,11,13,17. A combination of
10 (divine order) & 7 (spiritual perfection) sees - the ‘perfection of spiritual
order’. It is itself a factor of another interesting number, 153, the total of fish
caught by the disciples after the resurrection and revealing of Messiah and
representing the Salvation of all Israel. 17 happens to be the gematria of the
words #1770, diyg, a verb meaning to catch fish, #1771 dayyag, a fisherman,
also, to fish for the exiles of Israel to bring them back to their homeland. (Jer.
16:16!!

Interestingly, this ‘fishing’ takes place immediately before the hunters. Let me
show you a unique use of 17 – 10 & 7.
Psalm 83:6-11 gives us the ten and the seven in a different order. Verses
6-9 give us a confederation of ten enemies for the purpose of making
Israel extinct, and "to cut them off from being a nation"; while verses
10 and 12 give us an enumeration of seven enemies which the Lord had
destroyed in the past, with the prayer that He would do to the
confederacy of the ten what He had done to the seven in the past.

The commentators agree that no such confederacy can be found in the

past history of Israel, so that we are shut up to the conclusion that the
Psalm is prophetic and speaks of a yet future confederacy of which the
later Prophets speak more particularly. This reveals things in our day!

Verses 6-9: The ten-fold confederation: —

• Edom, #123, ‫' אדם‬Edom, the red one, the blooded one.
• The Ishmaelites, #3459, ‫ישמעאלי‬, Strongs' translates it, Yah
will hear, however, the Yod suffix indicates, “my god will hear
me”, it is also spelled the same as #3456, yasam, to be desolate,
to lie waste, to put, to place.
• Moab, #4124, ‫ מואב‬Mow'ab, Strongs’ has it, ‘of his father’,
however, if we look at it as a compound word, the Mi –Ma
prefix means what, who and Av = father, thus, what or who’s
father.
• The Hagarenes, #1905, ‫ הגרי‬Hagriy, Ha – the, ger – stranger.
The stranger or sojourner, The Wanderer (Cain, Nimrod, etc.)
• Gebal, #1381, ‫ גבל‬Gĕbal, from #1379, to set bounds or
boundaries, to set limits.
• Ammon, #5983, ‫` עמון‬Ammown, Strongs’ has it, ‘tribal’.
Again, if we break the word apart, the Am affixed to the
beginning means ‘people’ or ‘nation’, the Vav-Nun suffix
denotes a smaller version of something as in to diminish the
people.
• Amalek, #6002, ‫` עמלק‬Amaleq, Strongs’ has it, ‘dweller in a
valley’. I believe it is best rendered: Aleph – (future tense, first
person, I will) #4454, malaq, a verb meaning, ‘to wring off’, to
sever.
 • The Philistines, #6429, ‫ פלשת‬Pĕlesheth, Strongs’ has it, ‘land
of the Sojourners’. It is from the root of #6428, palash, to roll
or wallow in dust or ashes depicting great distress.
• Tyre, #6865, ‫ צר‬Tsor, rock, it is also related to #6862, tsar,
narrowness, tightness, distress, misery, and an enemy, foe,
adversary.
• Assur, #804, ‫' אשור‬Ashshuwr, Strongs’ has it, ‘a step’. It is
related to #833, ashar, which means to go straight, advance, to
set right. The same root as Yashar – El, those who walk
upright before YHVH.

Adam, the Blooded (as in Covenant) One [Yahshua] will hear Me and
make desolate, those whose father is “The Wanderer”. He (The
Wanderer) will cross boundaries (Dan. 7:25 Torah, Moedim) to
diminish the People. I will wring him off and sever him causing great
distress to those who would be an adversary to the Upright People
before YHVH! Who are this upright people? Yishar-el, Israel!

Then follow, in verses Ps. 83: 10-12, the seven enemies, which had been
destroyed in days of old:

• Midianites, #4080, ‫ מדין‬Midyan, the Mem prefixed indicates

from, out of diyn, strife, contention.
• Sisera, #5516, ‫ סיסרא‬Ciycĕra', Strongs’ has it, ‘battle array’.
However, by breaking the word apart, we see #5580, sas, an
insect or worm that devours and is used symbolically of what
will devour the enemies of Israel, the Resh-Aleph, ra’ah, means
to see. Thus, we will see the devouring of Israel’s enemies.
• Jabin, #2985, ‫ יבין‬Yabiyn, Strongs’ has it, ‘whom Yah
observes’. #995, biyn, means to discern, perceive, observe. It is
cognate with #997, beyn, indicating between, among.
• Oreb, #6159, ‫` ערב‬Oreb, Strongs’ has it, ‘raven’. It has a
variety of meanings based on the Consonantal roots, from
#6148, to exchange, to take as a pledge, #6149, to be sweet,
pleasant, #6150, to become dark, evening, #6151, to mix, to
mingle, to join, #6152, Arab(ia).
 • Zeeb, #2062, ‫ זאב‬Zĕ'eb, Wolf, it is closely related to #2077 &
2077, zebah, with the ‘Hey’ added, indicating a sacrifice, to
slaughter, to kill.
• Zebah, #2078, the same as above.
• Zalmunna, #6759, ‫ צלמנע‬Tsalmunna`, Strongs’ has it,
‘deprived of protection’, covering.

During the strife and contention we will see Israel’s enemies devoured.
YHVH observed - separating between us, pledging to mix & mingle the
wolves at a great slaughter, their covering removed!

Back to the Numbers:

17 is also the numerical value of another fitting piece of this puzzle:

#2328, #2329, both mean to encircle, to inscribe into or on a circle as the
boundary line of the heavens, the vault or roof of the heavens, also
associated with the Zodiac or Constellational signs upon which the
bondage and deliverance of Israel is written!

The number 147 is also interesting; it is the value of #5326, nisbah,

meaning strength, toughness, to stand upright, be established, the
ability to hold together under difficult tasks. It comes from the root of
#5322, nes, a noun indicating flowers, blossoms, buds that open into
blossoms and speak of fruitfulness. 147 also = #6629, tza’ani, his flock,
his sheep, and emunan, the root of #530, emunah, which means faith,
faithful. These two numbers remind us of Gen. 15 where YHVH tells
Abraham the message of his generations is written in the heavens and
even though in bondage for 430 years, they will emerge fruitful flock
again, established, upright, faithful and bless the earth.

There is another number that is not “seen” but, the two that are, force
us to examine this one, the number 130 (147 – 17= 130). This number
has the same gematria as the Hebrew word, #3717, kapal, a verb
meaning to double. It is also closely related to # 3722, kapar, to cover, to
forgive, to expiate, to reconcile. Kapal is the root of Machpelah, the
burial place of Jacob. 130 is the value of #5551, cullam, meaning ladder
 (Gen. 28:12) It is this ladder which represents the DNA or Word/Seed of
YHVH that affected the necessary change in Jacob becoming Israel.

*Note this phrase from the above verse: ‫הֵּנה סָֻּלם‬

ֲ ‫ַֽוַּי‬
Vayachalom vehineh culam, You see an interesting word play,
Chalam Cullam, only the first letters, Kaf, Samech differ. Challam
#2492, means to dream, to receive an image in a sleeping state. It is
cognate with #2491, #2490, Chalal, meaning, slain, pierced, wounded,
profaned. It is the name of the Person leading the Water Libation
Ceremony at Tabernacles- the flute player – the pierced one. Ironically,
130 is also the gematria of # 5261 & #5262, a drink offering, libation,
poured out before YHVH!

This number reminds us of the prophetic nature of this Torah Portion.

It would be the living of Jacob and his death and burial and the
continuation of the lineage through Joseph (placing the hand under the
thigh implied not only an oath, but, inferred the transfer of seed: Gen.
47:29) this literally typified the death, burial, and resurrection of
Messiah! His Jacob/Messiah’s burial doubled, (See Job) the House of
Israel, He became the Covering that would overshadow them
transferring His DNA as He is pierced in the hollow of his thigh, #3409,
‫ ירך‬yarek, thigh, SIDE, loins! Yahshua was pierced in His Side as well!
The word ‘hineh’ #2009, means behold, look, now, if: It is calling
attention to something about to happen, a future event. Thus, Jacob
dreamed of the future ladder/Messiah! The DNA of YHVH that would
be spread throughout his generations!

Finally, 130 is the gematria of #5513, Sinai, the mountain upon which
YHVH descended and released His word/Seed into Israel. The root of
Sinai comes from the same as Sanhedrin, meaning 70 learned or 70
elders. The Yod suffix indicates possession; thus Sinai means, ‘My
learned Man’. I.E. Messiah!

The Mirror of Jacob’s life.

II. This chapter deals specifically with the end of Jacob’s life, and
beginning of Israel’s bondage in Egypt. Ironically, if foretells of the End
of Israel’s bondage and the beginning of Jacob/Israel. The end reveals a
beginning.

Gen. 47: 29 – 31 finds Jacob requesting of Joseph that he bury him in

the place of his fathers: Later that request is repeated. The burial place
was Machpelah, Gen. 49:30.

• Machpelah, #4375, ‫ מכפלה‬Makpelah, double, portion. It is from

the root of #3717, kaphal, to fold over, double over and is seen
referencing the Breastplate of the High Priest. Ex. 28:16. We
remember Jacob at Luz/Bethel, which means Almond & House of
El, respectively. The Almond Rod becomes a symbol of the
Priesthood, those taught in the Tents of Torah. Joseph had
become the Priest of the House in the Stead of Jacob. Although
the Levites later retain the Priesthood in the person of Aaron,
Joseph pictures Messiah who was a priest after the order of
Melchizedik. The King of Righteousness! As the Outcasts are
being gathered, it is Joseph who again takes the roll of Priest
calling for a return to Torah and the restoration of its’ Truths.

In Gen. 48: 21 – 22 Jacob/Israel tells Joseph …I have given you one

portion above your brothers…Portion here is: #7926, shechem, portion,
shoulder. Implying to carry a burden. Shechem was located between
Mt. Ebal & Mt. Gerazim; the mountains representing the Blessings and
Curses of Torah. It was the Shoulders of Joseph tasked with this
responsibility! It is Joseph who is given the Coat of Colors. Gen. 37:3.

• Coat, #3801, kethoneth, tunic, under garment (linen). It means to

‘cover’.
• Colors, #6446, pac, richly ornamented, multi-colored. Cognate
with #6447, pas, noun describing the palm or back of the Hand.
This is the same as in Ex. 33:22 where YHVH covers Moshe with
His Hand – Messiah!

I personally believe Joseph’s coat would have been fashioned of 7

colors. The colors of the Light Spectrum clothed him just as Adam
would have been. Joseph becomes the “Light Bearer”, because he
carries Torah to his brothers and of course, Egypt. Today, Joseph is
again the Light Bearer among the Outcasts! How ironic that Moshe
fashioned the Menorah, the Niyr Elohiym, the Light of YHVH in the
 likeness of an Almond Tree, fittingly, Aaron is also translated as
Light Bearer and he was entrusted with the Almond Rod! The Sages
teach that this Rod will be handed to Messiah, by Elijah at the end of
the Age!

Remember the name given to Joseph by Pharaoh? Zaphnath-

Pa’neah: Strongs’ has it treasury of the glorious rest. However, some
scholars translate it: Savior of the Age. A type of Messiah Ben Yosef!

Ironically, the High Priest who was placed by the Romans at

Yahshua’s execution is also named Joseph (Yosef Bar Kayafa,
Joseph son of Caiaphas)! A counterfeit, picturing the counterfeit
religious leaders of the coming days. Not coincidentally, Caiaphas in
Arabic means, ‘Rock’.

It is a descendant of Joseph, Joshua, who leads Israel into the

Promised Land!

There is much more to this Torah portion, but, the basic premise
reminds of a promise to restore the House of Jacob/Israel and to bring
them out of Egypt again – at the end of Days – where the Bones of
Joseph will rise and be revealed as the brother of Judah, because of the
time Joseph has spent in the Tents of Torah, serving the People!
