STANTON RAISES YOUGHAL JOBS &

TYTEX CLOSURE IN DAIL
Cork East Fine Gael TD, David Stanton recently questioned the
Minister for Enterprise on the recent closure of the Tytex factory
in Youghal, Co. Cork.
“Tytex was the last large factory in operation in Youghal and its
closure resulted in the loss of 75 jobs. This was another big blow
to Youghal which has suffered significant job losses in recent
years with many large manufacturing plants being forced to shut
down.
“I am concerned that the Government are not doing enough to sup-
port and promote enterprise in Youghal. I would like to see better
supports for indigenous local business. I would also like to see
state agencies doing more to promote Youghal as a location for
foreign investors and multi-nationals.
“The Minister for Enterprise told me in response to a Dail ques-

He stated that in recent years employment in overseas companies
in East Cork has grown significantly. The Minister also advised
that Enterprise Ireland has approved €50 million in funding for
client companies in the Cork area. While these are all welcome
developments, my concern, is that Youghal is not benefitting from
this growth and investment.
“In addition to enterprise, I also believe that Youghal has great
tourism potential. It is a town steeped in history and occupies a
very scenic location on the south coast. I have been working very
closely with my colleague, John Deasy TD, in Waterford to pro-
mote tourism in the entire Blackwater Area in East Cork and West
Waterford.
“More needs to be done to provide employment opportunities and
support enterprise development in this part of East Cork. Better
promotion of Youghal as a tourist destination could be one of the

Richie Long, as captain of the Yellow team, was in great form
throughout, and was ably assisted by Robert Sinclair and Ciaran
O'Rourke. They held the upper hand after the first 10 minutes, and
despite the best efforts of captain Dylan Hogan, Paul Delaney and
Robbie Treacy, the Blues were not able to close the gap. In the
other game we had a real cracker. Barry Motherway's Green team,
expertly marshalled by John, had a great tussle with Adrian
Galvin's Red team, for whom Tom was deputising as manager. It
was a real see-saw battle, and the scores came thick and fast in the
final 10 minutes. Apart from strong performances from the two
captains, young Ben O'Connor and Olan Broderick played really
well for the Greens while the Leahy boys, Padraig and Ciaran,
along with Cathal Fitzgibbon, battled all through for the Reds. Ag

Late of 51 Sarsfield Terrace favours, this time I ask for a special one,
whose anniversary occurs on the 29th of October (mention here).
Take it Dear Heart of Jesus
and place it within your own Broken Heart,
A special day, another year where your father sees it.
Then, in his merciful eyes it will become your favour,
A loving thought, a silent tear not mine. Amen.
Like falling leaves the years go by

God looked around his garden and saw an empty space,

He looked down upon the earth and saw your tired face,
He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest,
God's garden must be beautiful, he always takes the best. Will those who think of him today,
God knew you were in pain and a cure was not to be,
So he closed your weary eyelids and whispered come to me. A little prayer to Jesus say.
With tearful eyes we watched you and saw you slip away,
Although we loved you dearly we knew you could not stay.
It broke out hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone,
For part of us went with you the day God called you home. Always in our thoughts and prayers, remembered

DANELLE LADIES CLOYNE DIOCESE

FASHION STORE OPENS PILGRIMAGE TO ISRAEL
by Margaret Arundle
On 15th September 2010, Cloyne diocese, headed by Fr. Patrick
Winkle and Fr. John McCarthy of Cobh set off for a 9 day pilgrim-
age to the Holy Land.
The group of 53 people from Youghal and other towns in Co. Cork
flew direct from Cork to Tel Aviv Airport arriving 5 and half hours
later and then onto our hotel for 4.30pm a nice time to settle in and
find our bearings. We met our guide Arlette, a Palestinian
Christian, who was excellent, proving to be a mind of information
Elizabeth Morrissey of The Coffee Pot
and very organised getting us everywhere in time so we didn't miss

the first day her the new store. Murphy The very next morning we set off on our 9 day programme. The
weather was gorgeous a 'balmy' 37 degrees and 43 degrees the day
we were at the Dead Sea. Some of our group were brave enough
to go for a dip. Its not easy to swim there but even non-swimmers
can float because of the high level of salt in the water. We also saw
one of the Dead Sea Scrolls where a Bedouin goat-herd found
them in 1948.
We visited Bethlehem where Christ was born, having to pass
through a check-point in the huge wall surrounding the Palestinian
town. Definitely poorer than their neighbours but the people were
very friendly and great fun.
We stayed 5 days around Jerusalem and then on to Tiberias on the
banks of the Sea of Galilee for another 4 days. Going to Nazareth
and the River Jordan, where you can be baptised.
I would very much recommend the Holy Land, it brings Scriptures
Lorraine McCarthy and Noreen Healy Valerie Slattery and Lil Danne into the present, the life and trials of Jesus, John the Baptist, the
Apostles and others involved in those times. So don't be thinking
about it, just go and have a very memorable trip as we all did.

YOUGHAL CAMOGIE CLUB YOUGHAL BLACKWATER

FUNDRAISING QUIZ CLASSIFICATION CHANGES – STANTON
Cork East Fine Gael TD, David Stanton has asked a parliamentary
question in the Dail about Government proposals for the
Blackwater Estuary. The Minister for the Environment proposes to
redesignate part of the Blackwater Estuary near Youghal as a
Special Protection Area.
“I have been contacted by a number of people in the Youghal area
who have concerns that the Government’s plans might mean
restrictions on water-based activities in the estuary. This section
of the Blackwater is regularly used for power-boating, sailing,
waterskiing and fishing by locals and tourists alike and a number
of local businesses are dependent on this use.
“The Minister advised me in response to the parliamentary ques-
tion that the reclassification of Special Protection Areas comes as
a result of a decision by the European Court of Justice in
December 2007. This judgement found that Ireland’s classifica-
Youghal Camogie Club committee members Deborah Foley Treasurer, Kelly
McCarthy Chairperson and Kelma McCarthy Secretary
tion of some of its Special Protection Areas was inadequate.
“The Government’s proposal to update the designation of the
Blackwater Estuary was advertised on 4th August 2010. It is part
of the Department of Environment’s programme of classification
of Special Protection Areas under the EU Birds Directive. Any
landowner or land user who is unhappy with the Government’s
plan can submit an appeal to the Department of Environment.
This must be done before the deadline of 3rd November 2010.
The Minister has also said that his Department does not have con-
cerns about current levels of recreational activities of this site and
I hope that this is correct. I understand that there have been some
Ashleigh Corcoran, Siobhan Downing issues regarding boat usage in Special Protection Areas in the past.
Sean and Eileen Ring and John Sheehan I would not like to see any such restrictions on recreational use of
the Blackwater which is such an important amenity for the
Youghal area.

May you always walk in sunshine,
They say there is a reason, they say that time will heal,
And Gods love around you flow,
For the happiness you gave us, But neither time nor reason, will change the way I feel.
No-one will ever know. For no one knows the heartache, that lies behind my smiles.
It broke our hearts to lose you, No one knows how many times, I have broken down and cried.
But you did not go alone, I want to tell you something, so there won’t be any doubt,
For a part of us went with you,
You’re so wonderful to think of, but so hard to be without.

FOROIGE COMPLETES THIRD

YOUGHAL BEACH SWEEP
By Christy Parker
Youghal Foroige Youth Centre, including youth café, Nagle House
Youth Club and Garda Diversion Project, undertook their third
beach clean of the year last Saturday (October 23rd). Sixteen mem-
bers filled a similar amount of bags with the detritus from Green
Hole and the Mall beaches across two hours from 10.30 a.m. Cork
County Council provided the bags and picking equipment and
transported the rubbish to the Youghal landfill. The centre has pre-
viously cleared rubbish from the Front Strand and Claycastle-
Redbarn.
Previous excursions have produced a plethora of beer cans, bottles,
butter boxes and -at the Rifle Range- discarded tents and sleeping
bags! This time plastic straw and plastic drink container tops which
usually accommodate them were much in evidence, as were one
shopping trolley -looking like it left Pasley's in 1978- and other
segments of rusted metal. There were also a large number of white
syringes collected, thankfully without needles and possibly used
for insulin injections or for veterinary purposes. It is to be hoped
so anyway.

Pictured at the Beach Clean Clean on Saturday last are Emer Power, Aoife and Ber
McCarthy, Catherine and Heather Curley, Scott O’Sullivan, Rian McSweeney,
Doug Semple, Helen Murray, Lisa Bulman, Una Furey, Catherine Ryan and Anna

Sharmel Sheikh
This is a year round destination and is located on the Sinai
Peninsula, which borders the Red Sea and where the flights from
Cork and Dublin will fly into, with a transfer time of approx.
30 minutes. It is famous for its endless sandy beaches, colourful
mountains, rich coral reefs and fantastic hotels. This resort is suit-
able for all ages and for families. A new water park resort is due to
open for 2011.

Cairo
With a population of almost 25 million and only 1hrs flight from
Sharm, this is where the great Pyramids of Giza are located. They
are the last surviving monument of the Seven Wonders of the
World, and one of the main reasons most people visit Egypt. Along
with the EgyptianMuseum at Cairo, this is a must and can only be
described as like something from an Indiana Jones movie. I loved
Cairo and would have spent longer here but we had to move on
and discover other magnificent attractions that this amazing coun-
try has to offer. You can bet that I will be back!
