Slope Formula

The slope of a line measures the inclination of the line. By definition, it is the ratio of the
vertical change to the horizontal change (see figure below). The vertical change is
called the rise, and the horizontal change is called the run. Thus, the slope is the rise
over the run.

Forming the rise over the run in the above figure yields

The formula for slope of the straight line going through the points (x1, y1) and (x 2, y 2)
is given by: M=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)

When the slope of the line is 0,we know that the line is horizontal and you know it's a
vertical line when the slope of a line is undefined.
