and admission to Universities
is a must this time as courses
slots became fewer as days goes by.
As a perquisite the school conducted
career orientation for the seniors,
to help them choose which one is
which.
The series of a year full of
entrance tests started by the Uni-
versity of the Philippines’ UPCAT,
with the adage as the most competi-
tive collegiate entrance examination,
where the common statistics out of
75,000 student applicants only 1,000+
pass the said examination, competi-
tive eh? This happened last August,
at the University of the Philippines
Campuses and other Authorized testing
centers throughout the archipelago.

exceptional drawing skills it is a piece of

efore I fell asleep a topic popped in my
mind, just like always I thought of the
problems our society and country is fac-
ing. As always those facts haunts me and made me
think “what can I do to make things change course,
how can I flip the table?” as I contemplate on my
thoughts I saw a photo of our national flag waving
proudly towards the sky, I asked “In relation to the
current state of our country is the blue sky at the
background ever darkened ‘cause of the predicament
surrounding us?”
I end up with a conclusion, the problems
our country is facing is redundant it’s like a cycle
it never ends, why? Because most of the Filipino
Youth never ever became part of the solution oth-
erwise most of them become part of the problem!
Many Filipino Youth were given a chance to study
well and prepare for a better future, they were given
all of their needs to the extent our government and
society can .but what look at them, what are they do-
ing? Many Filipino Youth were exposed to the filthy
elements of our society; smoking, drinking, drugs,
premarital sex, petty crimes just to name a few. Even
it’s hard to think but this is reality. I think the solu-
tion to those problems rely on Youth Empowerment.
Youth Empowerment starts at home; it is the parent’s
responsibility to raise responsible and God-fearing
children up to the peak of their extent. Second the
teachers; just like the popular saying “Ang guro ay
ang ikalawang Magulang” it is their responsibility
to expose the Youth to the wonders of life, it is their
joint responsibility with the parents to cultivate val-
ues planted at home. The Church; it is their respon-
sibility to made the Youth cultivate in loving God;
it is their responsibility to introduce Jesus into their
lives so that they can live according to the will of the
Father in heaven.
All of those factors need to work together;
if one of them failed to their job all of them will be
affected. The mission to cultivate youth being part of
the solution might be affected, the course might stop.
But most of all to the Youth; we were so lucky to
have everything fed on us it is only our job to swal-
low it and digest it without any other hooplas we
must be part of the solution not part of the problem.

A young and successful executive was traveling down a

ACNE
Causes, incidence, and risk factors
Acne occurs when tiny holes on the surface of the skin, called pores, become clogged.
Each pore is an opening to a canal called a follicle, which contains a hair and an oil
gland. Normally, the oil glands help keep the skin lubricated and help remove old skin
cells. When glands produce too much oil, the pores can become blocked, accumulating
dirt, debris, and bacteria. The blockage is called a plug or comedone.

The top of the plug may be white (whitehead) or dark (blackhead). If it ruptures, the
material inside, including oil and bacteria, can spread to the surrounding area and cause
an inflammatory reaction. If the inflammation is deep in your skin, the pimples may en-
large to form firm, painful cysts.

Acne commonly appears on the face and shoulders, but may also occur on the trunk,
arms, legs, and buttocks.

Acne is most common in teenagers, but it can happen at any age, even as an infant.
Three out of four teenagers have acne to some extent, probably caused by hormonal
changes that stimulate oil production. However, people in their 30s and 40s may also
have acne.

Treatment
Take the following self-care steps to lessen the effects of acne:

Clean your skin gently with a mild, non-drying soap (such as Dove, Neutrogena, or Ba-
sics). Remove all dirt or make-up. Wash once or twice a day, including after exercising.
However, avoid excessive or repeated skin washing.
Shampoo your hair daily, especially if it's oily. Comb or pull your hair back to keep the
hair out of your face. Avoid tight headbands.
Try not to squeeze, scratch, pick, or rub the pimples. Although it might be tempting to
do this, it can lead to skin infections and scarring.
Avoid touching your face with your hands or fingers.
Avoid greasy cosmetics or creams. Look for water-based or "non-comedogenic" formu-
las. Take make-up off at night. Non-comedogenic products have been tested and proven
not to clog pores and cause acne.

Korean Tacos: Since the Kogi truck started roaming

the streets of Los Angeles in early 2009, it has inspired
a cult following. Many trucks across the country have
adopted the Kogi model, including Marination Mobile
in Seattle and KOi in Portland. The idea of Korean tacos
isn't technically new—Koreans have been wrapping
kalbi in lettuce leaves, in a taco-like fashion, for a while.
But now people are actually calling them Korean tacos.
Pork bulgogi and short rib topped with shredded cab-
bage and cilantro...they're popping up on menus all over,
including non-trucks, like the brick-and-mortar Seoul
Station in NYC.

Coffee Toys and Cuppings: Mr. Coffee and even his

friend the French Press are getting pushed aside for
brewing gadgets like the Aeropress (a pressurized
space-age-looking tube), Clever Dripper (cone dripper
that uses a gravity valve) and Chemex (stylish blown
glass that uses the pourover method). We even hipped
up and got a Chemex for the office! The coffee culture
is expanding, looking more and more like that of wine.
It's no longer just a caffeine delivery system, but some-
thing to savor and sip. Ooh, notes of cranberries and
dank moss! (There are no wrong answers, right?) Cof-
fee growers, traders, and roasters taste varieties side-
by-side in a ritual known as cuppings, which even lay
drinkers are getting into now and attending like wine
tastings.
