DLF has leveraged its significant experience in the
power sector to set up DLF Utilities, over the last 2
UTILITIES
years…
DLF Industries Ltd and DLF Power Ltd (DPL)

„ DPL is amongst the first few IPPs in India - operating plants aggregating to 58 MW on BOO
(Build, Own and Operate) basis in Assam and Jharkhand

„ DLF Industries has set up more than 40 captive power plants with an aggregate capacity of
about 450 MW on EPC basis.
„ Had established JV with Skoda to manufacture steam turbine

„ Packaged Rolls Royce gas turbines

Captive Power Plants

„ Gas based 24 MW Co-generation power plants with Gas Engines and Vapour Absorption
Machines (VAMs), running successfully since last 2 years.

„ Developed capabilities of setting up these plants in the basements of the building and perfectly
integrating it with the building architecture.

Further, close to one-third of the power is lost in T&D

„ Transmission & distribution losses continue to be high with national average at around 30%

„ While some states have shown improvement in T&D losses, the improvement is slow and
the absolute values remain high

„ DLF Utilities’ smaller projects (4-40 MW) which are geographically spread help

„ reduce the load on the already overworked transmission networks and

„ rapidly increase generation capacity in a particular area

„ Well establish vendor base with short delivery lead times for smaller packages, not common to the larger power
plants, hence reduces the chances of procurement delays, with lead times for commissioning as low as 12
months 4

„ Chilled water is produced through vapor

absorption machines and is used to provide
air-conditioning

DLFU is planning to sell power to the grid in order to

maximize utilization and contribute to reducing peak UTILITIES
deficit

„ Since DLFU plants are captive power plants for office

complexes and IT/ITES SEZs, it has a unique load
pattern
tt with
ith significant
i ifi t iintra-day
t d variation
i ti

„ DLFU plans to sell the surplus power available to meet

the peak demands of the grid, e.g.

„ in the 6 pm-10 pm window or 6 am to 9 am window,

when offices demand is low, but the grid demand is
peaking due to residential load

„ DLFU will have ~130 MW capacity commissioned in the

NCR in 2010, which will act as peaking plants and will
contribute to lowering the peak deficit during the
Commonwealth Games to be held in Delhi

„ DLFU is already in talks to various SEBs in NCR and

power trading companies to sell this peaking power
