around the time the explosion was heard at 7:36pm. The capacity of the terminal is
80 lakh litres of fuel.

LOSS FOR THE IOC

There were 41 IOC employees at the terminal IOC’S total losses due to the fire
its being estimated at Rs. 300 crores out of which Rs. 150 crore is the product loss
and another Rs. 150 crores due to infrastructure damage. It will take IOC 18 months
to recover from the loss.

“IMPO RTANT SAYING”

Petroleum minister Murli Deora says that “not much can be done about the fire ,
it will have to be allowed to burn out”. He also announced the compensation of Rs. 5
to 10 lakh for the injured and the families of the dead.

HEADACHE FOR THE INSURANCE CO.

The IOC depot installation was insured for around Rs. 230 crore by a
consortium of the insurers led by ICICI Lombard general insurance.

REPORT BY COMMITTEE.
Head of the seven-member committee, probing into the causes of the
devastating fire at IOC depot which claimed 12 lives near here, said the final reports
with the facts.

Chairman of the committee M.B. Lal said that they visited at the spot survey,
interacting with the people and give their final report within 60 days.

INTERVIEW WITH GENUS CO. DIRECTOR

In an interview with CNBC-TV18 , Kailash Agarwal, director, genus power
infra. Spoke about losses incurred by the co. and estimated the loss of 100-150
crores..

HELPING HANDS-
The SMS medical college has formed a five-member committee of
specialised doctors to evaluate the immediate and long term impact of the fire
incident on the health of the living in nearby colonies.
EFFECTS OF IOC :-
ON HOTELS
DUE to the I.O.C. THE Hotels of sitapura area had to suffer huge economical
loss, infrastructure loss, tourist loss, and also human loss.

CHOKI DHANI:-
• THE HOTEL WAS CLOSED FOR 3 DAYS

• HAD TO SUFFER HUGE LOSS:

1. OF TOURIST- The tourist who were in the five star resort were
shifted to the other hotels immediately after the tragedy, from the
backside of the resort.

There was panic among tourist, and till now there is effect on tourist
because

The rate of tourist is decreased, still tourist are afraid of coming to

sitapura area because they are not been able to recover them from
these casualties.

2. INFRASTRUCTURE LOSS-There was not much loss to the

resort as compared to other hotels because in the hotel glass work
used is very less, whole infrastructure of the hotel is of wood. But then
also the hotel had to suffer little loss.

3. ECONOMICAL LOSS-Due to the tragedy the resort had to suffer

huge money loss........of approx of 50 lakh , and still they are suffering
loss because the workers of the resort left the resort and went to there
home and till now they didn’t returned back. The calculation is made on
the basis of infrastructure, workers and the resort being closed for
three days.

The per day income of the resort from hotels are

approx.
5 lakh and from village 3lakh.

So, for three days it will be- 800000*3= Rs 240000 and rest
is of infrastructure.

CASUALITIES- one person was injured due to breakage of glass

HOTEL AMBER VILLAS:-

This hotel had to suffer the maximum loss as compared to the other
hotels of sitapura location. The hotel had to bear the loss of 1crore
rupee.for which Rs 50 lakh is being claimed to the insurance comp. As
well as I.O.C.The other loss was of 7 days closed of the hotel.

• THE HOTEL WAS CLOSED FOR SEVEN DAYS

• HUGE HUMAN CASULITIES

• ECONOMIC LOSS

• INFRASTUCTURE LOSS

• TOURIST LOSS

• HIGH EMPLOYEE TURNOVER AFTER THE TRAGEDY.

Note: These datas are collected from H.R Manager of the hotel, Mr.
Sandeep Sharma.

As we talked to the watchman of the hotel, he told us that day

the party was going on. And after the tragedy the tourist were shifted
immediately to the other place. And due to the rush many tourists were
injured, they ran here and there. Many staffs of the hotels were also
injured.
Hospital survey-
According to eye-witness, after the first blast, the fire was spreading from one
tank to another and gas plant was just nearest from the last tank in front of M.G.
Hospital. At that time the decision was taken to empty the hospital as early as
possible many emergency cases we could see .Some of the pregnant women were
admitted to delivery just before the blast and immediately all they had to leave the
hospital in such conditions. While they were under delivery.

Ambu
lances were running very fast on the road to rescue the people those burnt.

An order from the government all the casualties were thrown out from the
hospital like Garbage.

Some of the patients were admitted in the hospital for serious operations also
leaving the hospital so that if any how gas pipe line catches the fire whole area could
be destroyed within the fraction of a second.

Impacts on local bodies-there are two types of impacts were observed by

us on local buyers like THADIWALA.

Decreasing the profit –

Some of the people are facing financial debt in selling of tea because before
the blast many people used to come take the tea but after the blasts many
employees including labours are not coming to take the tea.

Increasing the profit-

A contrasting phenomenon we observed from some of the people. Before
blast CIGRETS and BIDI were not allow to be sold nearest the plant but now there
is no problem to sell the CIGRETS and BIDI near the plant with any sort of risk.

Impacts on marriages –
According to Ram lal meena, before the few minutes from the blasts a
BARAAT was just going to reach in front of Ramlal’s home. But they were just .5 km
far from the destination blasts were taken place and all the family members were
gone away to leave the home. When they came they found that all the precious
jewelleries were theft.
IMPACT ON THEFT-
After the blast around 5 km. area was shielded for rescue the people from
pollution or other damages. That was a big chance for them to committing their
activities.

IMPACT ON TRANSPORTATION-
5 km. area was covered by military force and all the routs were blocked
either they are private or Govt. buses. Only those vehicles which were running on
the road those got the permission.

IMPACT ON CROPFIELD-
After the blasts the tankers were erupting the fire with smoke like VOLCANOS
and made a paper like carbon sheets those covered a lot of area by air and fallen
into the growing crop that created very harm effects

Impacts on impoverished people and slums-

People those have not their own home live in the slums had to leave the area
and they suffered a lot. People those are depends upon daily basis income couldn’t
be able to earn even a single rupee for many days.

Impacts on mirror industries–

As we know that blasts have destroyed glasses near 5 km. areas. After
prevent the fire all the companies as well as residential areas and hostels glasses
have been repaired. So it influenced the business of MIRROR industries.

Impact on railway-
Due to these serial blasts the track which is just surrounding IOC has been
blocked for many days. So that effected much the railway economy. Before 3
minutes from the blast a SUPERFAST train was just crossed the IOC and moved 1
km. far from blast according to eye witness . Otherwise anything could be happened
and railway will never recover this lose of human resources.
Acid rain-
Generally rotting vegetation and erupting volcano releases some chemicals
that can cause ACID RAIN. The biggest culprit is the burning of fossil fuel by either
coal burning or petroleum. After burning sulpher and nitrogen dioxides mixed with
atm. Water , then make the sulphuric and nitric acid respectively. It flows in direct
into the soil after raining.

For spreading of swine flu virus H1N1 , humidity and cold both are just a
boon. Due to acid rain , swine flu virus easily spreading, because of favourable
conditions and responsible for many deaths.

Asphyxiation-
In generally people think that deaths are causing due to burning but we have
to know that 90% of the cases are being due to asphyxiation.

Because carbon monoxide gas attaches our blood 250 times faster rather
than CO2 gas and responsible 50% of blood deficiency.

Global warming-
In this IOC blast we saw that fire was continuously going upwards to touch
the sky for many days. This caused increase in environment temperature and helped
to melting of snow in the sea.

Ozone depletion-
At the time of blast the atmospheric temperature was much enough ,so that
C,F and Cl can easily react together and make chloro-floro-carbon. That deteriorates
this layer and allows huge amount of BEETA rays to reach the earth which can
cause skin cancer and other diseases.

Air pollution-
Mainly CO2 gas makes due to burning of bio fuels that makes a shield in
atmosphere and prevent the rays those reflect from the earth. It causes increases in
atmosphere temperature. that causes global warming and that is a process of
GREEN HOUSE EFFECT.

Decrease productivity-
Increase CO2 in atmosphere means relatively decrease O2 in atmosphere
.That causes inhibition of food making process in such many plants.
Effect on VLCC-
The Indian oil corporation said it has cancelled one very large crude carrier
(VLCC)from SAUDI ARABIA due to blasts according to P Sugananam IOC director
of finance.

EFFECTS OF IOC ON RESIDENTS
• JAIPUR - A massive fire at the Indian Oil Corporation’s (IOC) depot in
Sitapura near here abated somewhat Wednesday, six days after it broke out,
but many residents from nearby areas are complaining of respiratory, eye and
skin problems.

• “My eyes are itching. I am having breathing problems too,” Rajesh Bhardwaj,
a resident living two kilometres away from the oil depot, told IANS
Wednesday.

• “My child is vomiting for the last three days. He also has a high temperature
and is complaining of irritation in the eyes, this must be solely because of the
fire,” Sugna, mother of two-year-old Anju, said.

EFFECT ON MEDICAL STORES-

According to Mohan bharadwaj after blast the selling of antiseptics and masks was
very enormous and people were try to rescue their selves.

Also said that was the compulsion to open the shop continuously because of
providing these antiseptics and pain killers as well.

SUGGESTIONS-
1- The IOC plant should have been shifted to non residential area
which couldn’t happen . Due to negligence this tragedy has taken
place. And common people suffered a lot. And all we saw
devastating incident and facing a lot of problems till now.

2- Government is supposed to control very effectively on those

officers those are delerationing of their duties.
3- Government is supposed to compensate all the victims.
4- Government should adopt latest technologies for effective
control on each an every depot. either they are near the
residential or non residential area.
5- Railway track should not be locate just near the petrol depots as
in sitapura.
6- Quantity of foam (fire extinguisher)should be according to the
capacity of oil plant .
