On October 26 , some SMS students put textbooks aside to join some historical

mathematics. Approximately 330 students attended a theatre performance about

Our Staff Development Day on October 11 went extremely well. Our focus this year PTSA News 2
has teachers meeting in course-alike groups in order to choose key standards, write Dates to Remember 2
assessments, and use data from these assessments to guide their instruction. Each ASB Report 3
of our course-alike groups have begun to identify key standards in their subject areas, CHAC 3
and they will also be setting clear goals for your students for these courses. We are
excited to move towards stronger collaboration and very strategic ways of helping Spartan Citizens Honored 4
students to achieve better. Attachments:

SMS Families ±
Days are getting shorter and there's a chill in the air. Fall is definitely here.
We continue to look for volunteers. If you find yourself with time on your hands, let us know. We have
many terrific opportunities available for you. (and THANK YOU to those who have already volunteered!)
Our Direct Appeal is going well but we still need your help (and contributions!) If you haven't yet
contributed, please take a look at the Direct Appeal letter found in this packet, write a check (or send
cash in an envelope) with the form to the office. One of our goals is the replacement of a defunct
computer lab and we'd love your support.
We are working hard on a terrific Parent Education Night for January, based on the book
"Conversations with Great Teachers", we are excited to have the author, Bill Smoot, joining us for the
evening.
Please contact me at wbockholt@yahoo.com, if you have any questions.
Until next time,

ASB Update
Dear Spartans,
Wow! What a great month we just had! We started off with a great outdoor Beach Party in the Quad on October 1 st. Over
350 Spartans danced, played, and partied after school to start off October. Our next Party will be November 19 th after school in the
GYM. The magazine drive is over and was a success! Our proceeds fund student activities such as Renaissance, school dance
parties and Spartan Spirit. On October 14 th
we had our first Renaissance Party to reward our individual test efforts last year and
received a snack, Spartan Spirit tickets, Front of the Line Passes, a t-shirt, and then we watched an amazing Wild Animal Show in
the Gym. I hope everyone is working hard to get into the next Renaissance based on your performance in class since the beginning
of the year. On October 22nd, Andy Kang, our ASB vice-president and I attended the District Strategic Planning Conference to
provide the student point of view for our mission and goals. The last week in October was spent celebrating all the ways you can
have fun and live a Drug Free life. Crazy Hair Day, Twin Day, Sports Day, and Halloween costumes along with really funny lunch
time activities. Two of the lunches were spent recognizing the Spartan Citizens for August through October with a luncheon and on
Tuesday we celebrated our collective Spartan Spirit with an extended lunch and super DJ.
November has a couple of extended holidays for Veterans Day and Thanksgiving and a Party on November 19 th. Please ask
your students what they saw on Spartan TV each day and remind them to keep on showing Respect, being Responsible, and
