CARBON CALCULATION ZERO…

Mission: To organize ourselves into having a carbon footprint that measures zero.
How? We will do this by calculating our footprint, constructing a plan to reduce our foot print and organizing ourselves to plant the relevant number of trees required to offset our
carbon emissions.

1. Click here to calculate your carbon footprint and complete the table below. To calculate your family’s foot print, multiply your foot print by the number of people in
your family. Show your calculations in the spaces provided.

2. Think and Discuss: How many trees should you plant to offset the emissions of your family? (About) 5 trees.

How could you be organized to do this? Brainstorm Ideas and then create a plan to show the steps you could take.

3. Brainstorm: Ways to organize myself to plant enough trees to offset some of 4. Create an Action Plan for planting trees to offset my family’s Carbon
my family’s carbon emissions. Emissions. This could be a flowchart or a step by step plan.
1: Take short showers
1) Being organized to go to the plant nursery and get my trees at a good time, not 2: Turn off taps when they brush their teeth
right before they close down for the day. 3: Close the balcony door when the air conditioner is on in the house
2) I have to organize space for the trees and organize them so that they can grow 4: Use the car less and walk more
3) Being organized to take care of my trees. Watering them, giving them sunlight
and care.
5. Research ways to reduce your footprint.

Gather information from three different sources about ways to reduce your carbon foot print.

Information Source One: Information Source Two: Information Source Three:

6. Identify trends: What were the three most common recommendations? Interviews, books, Internet (emails, websites etc)
7. Select: What three recommendations will you try to follow and why? Books, interviews, and websites, because they are the most reliable, and people without the
knowledge are sort of unreliable with information
8. Reflect: What do you think the following groups should do about the carbon foot print problem.
