1 Scope
This specification covers the testing procedure and requirements for Marine Loading
Arms Pantograph Cables. Pantograph Cables are also referred to as Outboard Cables;
which are different from Drive Cables. The Pantograph Cables shall be manufactured
using wire rope, with crimped button connections; refer to the "Anatomy of a
Pantograph Cable" drawing in Section 6. This specification covers both galvanized and
non-galvanized cables varying in sizes from 7/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch nominal diameters as
listed in Table 1. Cable sizes that are not listed in Table 1 may be used after obtaining
approval from the RSA assigned to Class 74, Loading Arm Spare Parts.
2.1 Any conflicts between this Specification and other applicable Saudi Aramco
Materials System Specifications (SAMSSs), Standard Drawings (SASDs), or
industry standards, codes, and forms shall be resolved in writing by the
Company or Buyer Representative through the Manager, Consulting Services
Department of Saudi Aramco, Dhahran.
2.2 Direct all requests to deviate from this specification in writing to the Company or
Buyer Representative, who shall follow internal company procedure SAEP-302
and forward such requests to the Manager, Consulting Services Department of
Saudi Aramco, Dhahran.
3 References
All reference specifications or standards shall be of the latest issue (including all
revisions, addends, and supplements) unless stated otherwise. These references are part
of this standard to the extent specified in the text.

4 Quality Requirements
The vendor shall implement and maintain a defined and documented quality
program based on ISO 9000 or equivalent. The quality program documents and
records shall be made available to the buyer's representative for review and
audit.
1. Proof/Elongation Test

- The final length after the Proof/Elongation test shall be recorded and
included in the certification documentation.
2. Break Test
A representative sample of wire rope, from which the cables are made, for
each cable size, and for each Purchase Order shall be tested to failure in
accordance with the requirements shown in Table 1 and the procedure in
API SPEC 9A or equivalent standard.

4.4 Purchase Order description must specify thread sizes as per relevant
international codes and standards. Threads must be inspected for conformity to
the specified standard.
Shipping and certification requirements shall be specified in the Purchase Order. The
following is an addition to these requirements.
Cables must be supplied with protection against rough handling and corrosion
for a minimum of 5 years storage in the marine environment.
5.3 Marking
Each cable must have the manufacturers' name, initials, logo or other form of
identification, the date of manufacture, stock number, and unique serial number,
stamped on both turnbuckle connections, together with reference to the Saudi

7 Commentary
The minimum breaking strength of the wire rope has been selected based on a
factor of safety of 5 applied to the maximum static working load the pantograph
cable will be subjected to; no wind or other dynamic amplifications have been
included. For the smaller wire rope diameters the strength of the Extra Extra
Improved Plow Steel IWRC values from API SPEC 9A were adopted.
Other structural components in the Marine Loading Arm have different safety
factors, in accordance with OCIMF guidelines.
Table 2 includes a partial list of Stock and Part numbers associated with various
cable sizes. This is for reference only. Updates of this list will be made
periodically.
