University Of Metaphysical Sciences
Mission Statement
UMS is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to assist-
ing people in becoming knowledgeable about metaphysical
concepts and discovering the true self.
UMS has made its program affordable for people of all walks
of life, keeping tuition prices low, with payment plans for ev-
ery budget.
UMS is here to help the student answer his or her calling in
assisting the human population in its spiritual evolution and
awakening, giving the student knowledge, experiential prac-
tice, and legitimate metaphysics credentials.
UMS purposely designed courses for the distance learner so
that relocation is not necessary and attendance in person is
not required. The student can study on his or her own sched-
ule rather than a schedule set by a university.
UMS is dedicated to assisting spiritual teachers as they pur-
sue their life purpose and life work, learn to live with integ-
rity and grace, and teach others how to do the same.
UMS is a facility for spiritual learning, whether the student
seeks knowledge for personal growth or goes on to become
a metaphysical teacher, writer, minister, workshop facilitator
or other type of healer. UMS believes that the healer must be
whole before true efficiency in helping others is attained.
UMS gives the student vast amounts of academic information
so that the student is well versed in the wide variety of material
and techniques many spiritual seekers are using in their efforts
to heal themselves. The culmination of these studies is geared
to assist the graduate in becoming a radiant, steady source of
love and grace through self healing and introspection.

missed by the more advanced student who has studied on his

The University Of Metaphysical Sciences is located in
beautiful redwood country in Northern California, with UMS
Minnesota for graduate studies. UMS is a non-profit 501(c)3
distance learning facility, offering downloadable courses
from the internet or delivered via postal mail. Study at your
own pace while you work, stay at home, or travel. The cur-
riculum is designed to give the student a well-rounded edu-
cation in all areas of metaphysics. As a practitioner, healer,
teacher, writer or leader, the graduate will be more effective
in his or her work with others.
In this day and age of coming need, people will be turn-
ing to spiritual teachers, healers and leaders for answers in
their search for truth. It is becoming increasingly important
for metaphysical teachers and healers to have credentials
and a comprehensive education in metaphysics. The Univer-
sity of Metaphysical Sciences is here to help meet that need.
Having a degree gives prestige and professionalism to
your practice, classes, or other endeavors. It shows that you
have taken the time to get an education, which takes a certain
level of commitment and knowledge. It will be quite useful if
you plan on writing books, teaching classes, healing, counsel-
ing, or traveling the lecture circuit. There are many opportuni-
ties in these respected careers if you have a Ph.D. or D.D. UMS
brings professionalism to the field of metaphysics.
The UMS curriculum serves both the beginner and the ad-
vanced student. Advanced students, who have been practicing
metaphysics for many years, will fill in the gaps in their knowledge.
If a beginner in metaphysics, the student will find most of the com-
mon concepts in metaphysics organized in one place, instead of
having to piece it together with self help books and workshops. In
the long run, attending UMS is more cost effective.
Students receive information which will serve as a large
reference library for lifelong use. In addition, recommended
reading lists are given with most subjects. The bibliography
and review of literature sections serve as a guide for further
personal study if the subject interests the student deeply.

How Were The Courses Created?
Written Material
The written material in the courses was heavily researched
by a team of more than 40 writers working closely with the
founder of UMS. Hundreds of books have been used as refer-
ences for the entire
curriculum. Many

in metaphysical sub-
jects, even if they are

parts of the spectrum.
Quotes from these books are used in the courses to support
statements and concepts conveyed in the written material.
Our research team was meticulous and diligent in collecting
information from various sources. All this research was done in
order to condense the material into notebook form for the stu-
dent. This eliminates the need to buy textbooks at retail prices,
which can be quite costly for the student. The pertinent infor-
mation has already been drawn out of the books and only the
essential information is included for the student. The courses are
streamlined to get right to the point on every subject. The writ-
ten material will serve as a reference section in the graduate’s
library long after the desired degrees have been attained. Inter-
net downloads of written materials are delivered as PDF files.
Audio Material
The audio portions of the courses were created for the
experiential aspects of what the student learns in the writ-
ten material. The meditations are facilitated by the founder
of UMS. The founder has a soft, trancelike voice and beautiful

tions use no music at all in order to create greater depth of
stillness and concentration with no distractions whatsoever.

What Will I Learn?
The courses are designed to give the graduate a broad
understanding of metaphysical subjects. The material spans
several religions and belief systems so that the graduate will
be well versed in the ideas many parts of the population
hold. It is important for the student to be exposed to all areas
of spirituality for a broader understanding of human nature.
Some of the courses are meant simply for the student’s self-
introspection and self-inquiry, which is a necessary and ongo-
ing practice for any teacher, healer, or leader. Audio meditations
will serve the student for many years. The student is highly en-
couraged to investigate more deeply the subjects that interest
him or her. Recommended reading is given on every subject in
the curriculum for further study, although it is not required, and
a complete bibliography of reference material is given.

Why Get A Doctorate Degree?
This gives your ministerial status greater professionalism, and
sets you apart from others who are only ministers or rev-
erends. It also establishes you as a true professional in the
field of metaphysics. This is becoming increasingly impor-
tant. Very few teachers of metaphysics have more than
ministerial status, if even that. Some people doubt their
legitimacy as a teacher or healer, for anyone can send $5

graduate from UMS, you will have prestigious letters be-
hind your name from a university that offers a true educa-
tion, depicting that you have taken the time to get your
degree. This takes commitment to your path as a spiritual
aspirant or teacher. You will be perceived as a “doctor” of
your subject, not just a reverend or minister because you
have studied and learned about metaphysics specifically,
which is a specialized area of religion.
You can obtain your ministerial status in the Master’s De-
gree program. Ministerial Ordination is all you need to legally
practice as a minister or religious counselor. The primary rea-
son to acquire a doctoral degree is to establish a professional
image of yourself as a person well educated in your chosen
area of expertise, which is metaphysics. Obtaining a doctorate
shows a deeper level of commitment, education, and profes-
sionalism. Most people seek out a “doctor” when looking for a
counselor, not necessarily a reverend or minister, even though
a reverend or minister can legally counsel people. With Doc-
torate credentials behind your name, you establish yourself as
a “doctor” and can list yourself as such in the phone directory
with other counselors, rather than as a minister or reverend
only. People tend to think of a counselor as their “doctor.”
Your title of doctorate level in metaphysics gives you le-
gitimacy in your counseling practice. Your Doctoral Degree
in Metaphysics is completely legal in every way, though it is
not considered an academic, secular degree in psychology,
or any other field other than metaphysics. It is a doctoral
degree in a specialized area of religion. This specified area
of religion (metaphysics) is often what many seekers want
in their counselor, so becoming a doctor in the metaphysi-
cal field can serve you in this way.
Teaching & Counseling
Anyone teaching or counseling with credentials in meta-
physics is doing so in the field of religion as a legal minister, not
as a psychologist. Your right to teach and counsel is not based on
your doctoral degree. It is based on your ministerial status. This is
perfectly legal and acceptable in almost every part of the world.
The limitation of religious degrees is that job positions
in secular colleges like state universities and community col-
leges would be difficult to obtain without a secular degree.
If you would like to be a teacher or professor at a traditional
university or college, you must obtain a secular degree. Re-
ligious degrees may or may not be acceptable at some of
these institutions for teaching positions. UMS does not offer
secular degrees.
Ministerial Ordination
Upon completion of the Master’s Degree, the student
becomes a registered reverend or minister. The student is or-
dained with all the rights, powers and privileges of an ordained
reverend or minister through the parent non-profit organiza-
tion of the university, Wisdom Of The Heart Church 501(c)3.
Many churches supplying ministerial status for only a
few dollars are unstable and they are not a genuine 501(c)3
organization listed with the proper federal agencies. You
could find yourself in legal trouble for practicing counseling
without proper credentials. Someone may challenge you
about your ministerial license, especially when you get into
counseling or assuming tax advantages that are available
as a minister. You will need to be backed by a church that
has staying power and will not have disappeared when you
need proof of your status as a minister or reverend. Wisdom
Of The Heart Church is a bonafide church listed with the
proper federal agencies, and will be there if you need proof
of your ministerial legitimacy.
Who is The Founder?
The founder of University of Metaphysical Sciences is
Christine Breese, D.D., Ph.D. She is 40
years old and has walked many spiri-
tual paths, including Eastern philos-
ophies, Native American traditions,
nature religions and modernized
meditation techniques free of phil-
osophic or dogmatic systems. She
studied religions, self help books,
and learned how to heal and find
harmony. She then pursued formal
studies in metaphysics in order to
open University Of Metaphysical Sci-
ences. She holds her Doctor Of Divinity Degree in Metaphys-
ical Sciences, as well as her Ph.D. in Metaphysical Counseling.
Breese also holds an Associates Degree in Film And Video

Production, and another in Audio Engineering. She outlined
and designed many
of the courses and
much of the re -
search. She directed
and coordinated
a team of more
than 40 writers and
teachers who spe-
cialize in various
metaphysical sub-
jects. Breese also
edited all material
in the curriculum.
She is a respected
author and teacher,
and has done much to help her community.
Breese worked in the film and television industry
for many years as she pursued her spiritual path. She
worked on commercials, TV shows, music videos, con-
ventions, and independent films. She is the producer
and director of a metaphysical talk show called Spirit
Talk featuring a panel of guests discussing spiritual top-
ics in a beautiful garden. This show can be seen on pub-
lic access stations in the United States.
Christine Breese began to teach metaphysical classes
in 1990. She has been an author, meditation facilitator, and
counselor since then. The following is an excerpt from one of
her meetings and gives a glimpse into her philosophy:
“There is nothing one must do except be awake in
the moment, and everything else takes care of itself. It
takes trust and surrender to live this way, letting life un-
fold for you rather than directing it yourself with the hu-
man mind. Realize that the self is eternal consciousness
which never changes, can never be harmed, and never
dies. It doesn’t need to be fixed or healed, it doesn’t have
to evolve. The real you is already whole... it’s not a pro-
cess. Realizing this frees you from the human condition.
You have found what you are looking for right here in
this moment, in the very fact that you are aware intelli-
gence, with or without the body. Once direct experience
of who you really are has taken place and it is brought
into daily life, wholeness and peace become your natu-
ral way. This results in living your enlightenment in this
lifetime, which automatically creates the beautiful life
you always wanted. As you radiate this grace to others
around you it may seem like a brand new way of being
in life—and it is. It is lucid living. The first challenge is to
become lucid, rather than operating on automatic pilot
through life. The next challenge is to maintain that lucid-
ity without falling back to sleep into the human condi-
tion. Stopping the mind is the first step. This is where it
begins. It only deepens from there.”

Christine Breese created the University Of Metaphysi-
cal Sciences for everyone who is interested in awakening
or helping others in their awakening. The experiential parts
of the courses trigger direct experiences of deep stillness
and trance states in which timelessness and peace are
experienced. The curriculum is designed to assist the stu-
dent in attaining the ability to live in the ever-unfolding
now, the magic zone. The curriculum is also specifically
geared to informing the student on how to help others
on the path to enlightenment and awakening.
Accreditation And Associations
What Is Accreditation?
The U.S. Department of Education does not accredit ed-
ucational institutions or programs. The United States has no
Federal Ministry of Education or other centralized author-
ity exercising single national control over post secondary
educational
institutions in
the country. In
general, institu-
tions of higher
education are
permitted to
operate with
considerable
independence
and autonomy.
American edu-
cational institu-
tions can vary
widely in the
character and
quality of their
programs. The
reputation of
a university
truly depends
on the content
of curriculum
material, repu-
tation and the
quality of its
graduates.
Accreditation is optional for all colleges and universities.
The goal of accreditation is to ensure that the education provided
by institutions of higher learning meets acceptable levels of quality.
Accrediting agencies, which are private educational associations of
regional or national scope, develop evaluation criteria, conduct
peer evaluations, and assess whether or not the criteria are met.
Institutions and programs that request an agency’s evaluation and
meet that agency’s criteria are“accredited”by that association.
In order to insure a basic level of quality, the practice of ac-
creditation arose in the United States as a means of conducting
non-governmental peer evaluation of educational institutions
and programs. Private educational associations have adopted
criteria and procedures for evaluating institutions to determine
whether or not they are operating at basic levels of quality. This
has created a level of stability and similarity between all schools.
For the most part, this only includes secular colleges and reli-
gious schools centered around Christian and Biblical teachings.
Because Metaphysical Sciences is considered a “new emerging
field of study” by federal and educational agencies, UMS does
not qualify for traditional accreditation that universities like pri-
vate and state universities, community colleges, and other secu-
lar institutions qualify for. The traditional accrediting agencies,
of which there are nine, have made it known to UMS that they
do not have any other colleges like this one to compare UMS to,
therefore they cannot do an evaluation of us by“comparing us to
our peers.” Perhaps at a later date in time they can.
The AADP and AAMA were established to meet this
need on the part of those who practice and teach metaphysics.

It consists of many practitioners and schools. The University
Of Metaphysical Sciences has met all criteria of the AADP
and the AAMA. Upon evaluation, UMS was granted accredi-
tation by both agencies.
UMS Accreditors
The AADP and the AAMA are the most prominent and re-
lated organizations at this time in the United States for accred-
iting a metaphysical institution. These are the only agencies in
existence at this time that are “a grouping of our peers.” UMS
is accredited by the AADP, American Association of Drugless
Practitioners (www.aadp.net) and the AAMA, American Alter-
native Medical Association (www.joinaama.com). Please feel
free to visit their sites and check our school listing with them.
Students and graduates of UMS are eligible to apply for mem-
bership within these and other organizations upon attainment
of the degree that makes them eligible for acceptance by each
respective agency.

At this time, all course materials are in English. Eventu-
ally, UMS Courses will be translated into other languages.
Transfer Of Credits Or Degrees
No credits, including Bachelors or Masters degrees from
other colleges, count toward UMS curriculum requirements.
All students must begin at the Bachelors level in order to pre-
serve continuity of the course material throughout the pro-
gram. UMS recognizes that life, prior education, and other
growth inducing factors are great teachers. However, in or-
der to stand behind a graduate if he or she chooses to be in
a professional light and hold UMS credentials, we must be
sure that the graduate has been exposed to all information
in the Bachelors and Masters programs as it is presented by
our courses. Our curriculum is very unique in nature.
Tuition And Payment Plans
Tuition for University Of Metaphysical Sciences is as
low as $1,995.00 when paid in full at the time of en-
rollment. However, payment plans are available. UMS
finances these loans itself in order to help the student
who cannot pay for tuition all at once. Payment options
are approximately $50/month for the long term loan,
$100/month for the medium length term loan, or $200/
month for the short term loan. For more detailed infor-
mation, see our Payment Plans on pages 18 & 19.
If the student is able to download PDFs and MP3s from
the website, our course materials fee for the entire curriculum
is only $155.00. You will receive a link to your own personal au-
thorization page where you can sign in to receive each month’s
assignments. If course materials and tapes/CDs are sent via
postal mail within the United States, the cost of materials is
$385.00, which can be paid in small amounts with the short,
medium or long term payment plans. If materials are mailed
outside the USA, the course materials and postage fees both
apply. Duties may also be due, depending on your country.

Tuition Credit For Work/Life Experience
UMS is not in a position to determine monetary value
for work or life experience in the field of metaphysics. While
UMS has great respect for prior work experience and realizes
its importance, monetary value for this cannot be determined
fairly. Students of every level, from beginner to advanced,
come to UMS for their degrees. Many have been working in
the field of metaphysics for quite some time, yet are now in-
terested in getting credentials because they have run into the
limitations resulting from not having a degree.
It would be too subjective, confusing and time consuming
to examine the work experience of every individual who en-
rolls. Besides, the tuition reduction would not be very much
because UMS has tried to keep its tuition prices as low as
possible to begin with.
UMS can stand behind its graduates only if the univer-
sity can be certain the student has been exposed to all ma-
terial in the curriculum pertaining to each degree program.
Therefore, no prior work experience can be considered for
tuition reduction. The advantage the student has who pos-
sesses prior work experience is that he or she can move
through the courses very quickly.
Scholarships & Financial Aid
Scholarships
UMS offers partial scholarships by waiving the $195 down
payment on the long term four year payment plan for stu-
dents who can make the $50 per month payments, but cannot
come up with the first $195. Scholarship awards are only given
for the long term plan. No scholarships are awarded on the
pre-payment,
short or medium
term plans.

other affluent countries can still meet our $50 per month pay-
ment plan. We have kept our tuition low and designed the
long term payment plan for these purposes, yet the educa-
tion offered by UMS is worth far more than the tuition being
charged. Those who are on disability or SSI, who receive a gov-
ernment check every month, are not eligible for scholarship
awards based on that alone. Please submit by postal mail to
the UMS/California branch all rent receipts, a balance sheet
of your expenses versus your income, and copies of your W2
forms or payment amounts. A committee will review your re-

Financial Aid
UMS offers financial aid by financing educational loans itself
that might otherwise be unavailable to students. This is offered
in place of federal student loans, and serves in exactly the same
way, with extremely low interest rates on the loan, comparable
to the low interest rates available through government agen-
cies. UMS short, medium and long term payment plans are op-
portunities for those of lesser financial means to enroll in the
curriculum without needing to obtain and qualify for a federal
student loan. UMS will finance student tuition loans itself.

Tuition Reductions For
Spouses & Family Members
If a student’s husband, wife or im-
mediate family member (mother, father,
daughter, son, brother, sister) would
like to enroll in the program, a 5% re-
duction in tuition is available for the
student who refers his or her immediate
family member or spouse. This is not ap-
plicable to roommates or friends.
Withdrawal And Refunds
If within the first 30 days of enrollment the student de-
cides to withdraw, for whatever reason, all monies will be
refunded minus a $150 processing fee for the first packet
of course materials and administration expenses. Credit
card fees will also be deducted. If the student withdraws
between 30-60 days after enrollment, all monies except
$300 will be refunded. After 60 days, no refund will be
given. Course materials and monies already paid are non-
transferable to other incoming students.
Lack Of Aptitude Policy
If a student does not have the aptitude or commitment
to succeed in completing studies at UMS, the student will be
contacted and the situation will be discussed. The student
will be given a chance to remedy the situation, clarify that
personal time is needed before resuming studies or talk to
a curriculum representative if assistance with a particular
course is needed. If the student cannot complete necessary
assignments, after dialogue with the student, dismissal might
be determined by the curriculum committee. UMS will de-
termine the refund amount depending on the time passed
since enrollment and what materials have already been
shipped. An additional administrative fee of $185 will be lev-
ied against the refund amount for administrative expenses.
If the student is unreachable by phone, email or postal mail
for six months, withdrawal from studies will be assumed and
dismissal will be enacted. Any of the afore mentioned stu-
dents may resume studies within 3 years from dismissal date
if the student would like to study again later.
Shipping Overseas
Postage to overseas countries is not included in tuition for
shipment of books and tapes. Postal fees vary and are worked
out on an individual basis. International students are respon-
sible for all shipping costs. Students should also be aware that
they might be required to pay “duties” to their own govern-
ments, depending on which country they live in. Some coun-
tries might not allow products from the United States to enter,
and if this is the case, downloading lessons from the internet
is encouraged. This

can avoid these
costs and obstacles,
including time de-
lays or loss of ma-
terials in the mail.
Students who wish
to take advantage of
this will receive courses by email and no extra charges will be
assessed beyond the price of internet downloads. This system
is highly encouraged for overseas students.
Admissions Requirements
High School Diploma or GED is required. Admission is
not based on grades from high school or college. UMS is a
non-discriminatory educational facility. Students of any race,
gender, sexual orientation, color and national or ethnic origin
are admitted. To qualify for enrollment send your enrollment
application, a copy of your high school diploma/GED or your
sworn statement that you have completed the equivalent of
high school in your country, and your chosen payment.
Confidentiality Of Student Records
Student information is protected in complete confiden-
tiality. No student information is shared with any agency,
including mailing list agents, email lists, survey businesses
and other such companies who buy mailing lists. No infor-
mation is shared with outside parties unless the student
wishes it to be so. This can be done only at the student’s
signed written request by postal mail.

Students receive online support in their studies. A special

Personal Contact
Studies at University Of Metaphysical Sciences are deeply
transformative in nature and at the core of the curriculum
is an introduction to non duality concepts. Students are re-
quired to embrace the master within themselves, and also
to face their shadow sides and heal them. Some students
may find themselves breezing right through the curricu-
lum if they have done transformative work prior to enroll-
ment. Others may find themselves digging up old hurts for
re-examination or processing. Sometimes the work in the
curriculum may cause emotional releases, deep healing, or
the need to talk to someone about the process.
When a student enrolls in University Of Metaphysical Sci-
ences, he or she is held in loving energy on the inner planes
throughout his or her studies by staff members. This is to assist
the student in successfully reaching his or her full potential.
Wisdom Of The Heart Church maintains a prayer circle for
specific requests. This costs no extra money. UMS is sensitive to
difficult transformative processes, and wants to help students in
every way possible. If the student finds himself or herself having
a difficult emotional process, he or she is encouraged to write
about what is going on in a letter to UMS. All letters are read as
long as they are not longer than a page or so. UMS does not ad-
dress prayer requests with a personal response to the letter.

Writing Books
It is becoming increasingly difficult to get interest from
metaphysical publishers when the author has no credentials.
The publisher sees credentials as a way to market and assist
sales of books. For
this reason, publish-
ers prefer that their
authors, especially
metaphysical and
self help authors,
have some sort of
credibility and letters
to put behind his or
her name in the field
of metaphysics. This automatically makes the spiritual book
more sellable. It is also useful for attracting an agent in the first
place who will shop your book around to new age publishers,
for they are quite aware of the publishers’ preference.
Most metaphysical publishers only print 5 to 10 books
per year, so imagine how picky they must be when they liter-
ally receive thousands of submissions and they can only pick
5 or 10. Authors with credentials will be much higher up on
the list of potentials than authors without credentials. Hav-
ing a doctorate degree will give your book greater market-
ability and credibility with publishers and audiences alike. If
a student wishes to write metaphysical books, the spiritual
Ph.D. Degree is encouraged.
Professional Lecture Circuit
Lecturers on metaphysical subjects are in great demand at
this time, even on the corporate circuit. If you like to travel, this is a
wonderful way to earn right livelihood. Agents book spiritual lec-
turers all over the country for things like charities, colleges, fund-
raising groups, metaphysical centers, spiritual expos, fairs, and
countless other types of spiritually focused organizations. Agents
take a small percentage of what you get, usually somewhere be-
tween 10% to 20%, the same way agents for entertainers do.
Agents can create an entire spiritual lecture tour for you.
Agents can get more money for you
than you can yourself because they
have connections you don’t. Also, their
own earnings depend on how high a
price they can get for you. You could
do three or four spiritual lectures in a
week, do leisure travel between lec-
tures, and make a good living. Your
doctorate degree in metaphysics
will make an agent more interested
in you, especially when you are first
trying to establish yourself and get
started. If you do not have credentials,
the agent will most likely not include
you in his or her roster of lecturers. It is
easier for agents to book people who
have spiritual credentials.
Counseling
You are in legal standing in almost
every state if you hang your sign for
spiritual counseling services when you hold a D.D. and a ministerial
license. Of course you must check with your own city and state for
specific permits, licenses and other business requirements for act-
ing as a minister in your community in a spiritual counseling format.

selor and you can help
many people on an
individual basis. This
is a very popular liveli-
hood for graduates of
metaphysical studies.
One on one counseling is much needed by spiritual seekers, so
there is never a lack of need for this type of of work in every city. You
will be able to counsel people professionally, although you may
not be able to accept insurance policy work. However, there is still
plenty of work, even without insurance payments. Graduates with
a doctorate degree can charge a decent hourly rate depending on
his or her geographical location and the economy of the local com-
munity. Even in a depressed economy, it is still a good wage that
can be earned as a one on one spiritual counselor.
Counseling often results from your lectures, retreats, work-
shops, or your presence in a metaphysically targeted market.
Some poeple will find you through listings in the yellow pages
under headings such as hypnosis, counseling and spirituality.
If the student wishes to be a counselor, D.D. credentials
are encouraged. The Doctor of Divinity degree allows one to
counsel in almost all states in a spiritual and religious context
(not psychology). The Ph.D. for counseling can be problematic
in some states if it does not come with accreditation from a
secular agency. If the student wishes to have the prestige of
both degrees, but also wants to counsel, it is suggested that
the student obtain both the Ph.D. and the D.D. degrees. The
second doctorate degree at UMS is only $400 more than the
full tuition costs, also payable in monthly payments of $50 per
month if the student desires the long term payment plan.
Retreat, Seminar or Workshop Facilitator
Many graduates of metaphysical studies go on to become
facilitators of spiritual retreats and workshops. Having credentials
gives the facilitator a professional image, and gives credibility to
the workshop. People are more inclined to invest in and trust
someone who has formal spiritual training than they are to trust
someone without training. Having cre-
dentials gives you an immediate advan-
tage over those who have none. Your will
stand out based on your credentials.
You can attract many people with your
spiritual degree. If you attract 50 people,
you would make a certain amount of
money in one weekend. If you attracted
100, you would earn more. Even if you at-
tracted as little as 10 or 20 people, it would
still be well worth your while. Attracting 10
to 20 people is a very reachable number.
Do some research on the internet and see
what the going rate is for spiritual seminars
and workshops, multiply these numbers,
and you will find out how much you can
make. Start small and work your way up. If
you live in a city you are lucky, for you can
attract quite a few people to a weekend
workshop if your price is right.
If you work on deferment (payment
after admission prices are paid by attendees) for others who
facilitate these spiritual retreats, seminars or workshops, you
will receive somewhere around 5% to 10% of the profits, de-
pending on the arrangements you make with the facilitators.
Teaching A Weekly Class Series
Another route comparable to facilitating retreats, but
takes less advertising and pre-organization, is to teach a once
per week spiritual class series in your community over a pe-
riod of two months or even a year. A class series is an excellent
avenue for delivery of your spiritual teachings. Look in your
local paper for an average price of what people charge for
spiritual classes, and multiply that by 10-20 people, which is
a normal amount to be able to attract. You can use your cre-
dentials in metaphysics to stand out in your community as an
educator, unaffiliated with churches if you so choose. Some
people don’t like church atmospheres, yet want a teacher who
has been spiritually trained in some way, rather than someone
with no credentials. You can teach classes of your own design
and inventiveness and create the sacred space in a class series
that people are looking for. Another
benefit to teaching a spiritual class se-
ries is that you would not have to leave
home or travel. This is a very popular
livelihood for graduates of metaphysi-
cal studies. You will have much to teach
after you complete your metaphysical
Masters Degree at UMS.
Founder Of A Center
When founding a center or a
retreat facility it is much easier to
gather investors and other neces-
sary partners for the project when
the founder of the retreat center has
a spiritually focused doctorate de-
gree. It is a statement of professional
standing. It gives the retreat center
credibility and creates an air of seri-
ousness and commitment to your
endeavor. Retreat centers are a viable
business and can be created on a
small amount of land.
Spiritual retreat centers cater to
people who have plenty of money
to spend on their spiritual healing so
you can charge accordingly. Perhaps
you would like to include a work exchange program for people
without financial affluence, so that you don’t leave anyone out
who doesn’t have a lot of money. Your operating costs could be
lowered greatly by incorporating a work exchange program for
kitchen, grounds and cleaning work. Your largest investments
would be land payments, insurance, and food. You could sup-
plement your land payments by hosting famous spiritual figures
and their workshops. They work for a percentage of the profits,
payable after the money is collected by your organization.
Selling Meditation CDs & Tapes
This is a lucrative business that is very easy to create
and promote. All you need do is create spiritual journeys that
assist people in self-healing or learning, and duplicate them
on tapes or CDs. You can duplicate them yourself or you can
have a company do it. Even if you have someone else do it, it
is not very expensive and you can sell these tapes and CDs at
your lectures, engagements, at your retreats or workshops,
on your website, or in your catalog... The possibilities are end-
less. This is a wonderful way to make right livelihood from
your own home without ever having to go anywhere. When
a spiritual teacher has many tape sets or individual journeys
to sell, this has been proven to be a successful and profitable
business if you can market it right.

Establishing A Church
Establishing a church is a wonderful service to create
in your community. You will not only be a Doctor Of Meta-
physics or Divinity, you will also be a reverend, or minister.
You are qualified to give sermons, establish tax advantages,
and provide spiritual counseling in the community. Many
graduates of metaphysical studies shine in this position.
Upon completion of the Masters Degree, you will be eligi-
ble to open a church in your own town. You are not required to
use the name Wisdom Of The Heart Church just because you
are ordained by this particular church. You are welcome to use
a name you choose on your own and remain completely in-
dependent from Wisdom Of The Heart Church. If you choose
your own church name, be aware that you will need to estab-
lish your own non-profit 501(c)3 status.
Weddings, Funerals,
Ministerial Ceremonies
You will have the power to perform
marriages. Many have created a profit-
able business around weddings. Some
perform weddings in their communi-
ties and others create exotic travel pack-
ages with special surroundings for the
wedding. Arranging accommodations
and wedding services for a couple and
their families in a tropical paradise is a
wonderful and fun right livelihood. You
will receive a packet showing you how
to run these services. You will also be
able to perform funerals, rites of pas-
sage, and other such ceremonies.
Operating A Bookstore
You will certainly attract attention in
your community for your metaphysical
bookstore if you are a doctor of meta-
physics or divinity. Bookstores are a lucra-
tive operation. Booksellers do not have
to buy books from the publishers. All the
metaphysical books in a bookstore are on
consignment, and the seller only pays for
the book if it sells. If it does not sell in 30 to 90 days, the book-
store sends the book back to the distributors it came from. This is
a business that can be established for very little cost for inventory.
You would have to have very good credit scores to establish this
sort of relationship with the distributors, but even if you don’t you
can still start a metaphysical bookstore if you have a little startup
capital. Metaphysical bookstores are always busy, even in some
towns where metaphysical thinking in the population is not
readily visible. Meta-

and other related items,
including your services
as a spiritual counselor.

ly $100 per month. Courses are given out more slowly as the
student pays more slowly, but courses can be taken more

This is a four year loan/payment plan for students who
can only afford $50 per month. The advantage of the long
term payment plan is financial leniency on the student’s
budget as far as down payment and monthly billing cycles.
The disadvantage is that the student must move through
the courses more slowly unless he or she makes lump sum
payments in order to speed up his or her progress through
the courses. Courses are sent out in packets according to
where the student is in his or her payment plan.
In UMS experience, students make larger payments
in the months they have more money so they can move
through the courses more quickly. Students rarely need
the full 48 months to finish their doctorate degree, for
finances fluctuate and sometimes a student can pay
more in financially better months. Often, the student
improves his or her finances by using some of the tech-
niques in the course materials and audio meditations.
The advantage to the long term loan is that the student
can at least get started and begin studies. Even though the stu-
dent must progress at a rate which reflects the monetary value
of the course materials, getting started is the first important
step. The student can pay more when he or she wants to, yet is
never obligated to more than $49.89 per month if finances are
low in any given month.

An excerpt from Pranayama & The Art Of Breathing:
...Breath can be used to shift physical, emotional and men-
tal gears. Controlling the breath can lead to some interesting
experiences. In fact, your body is regulating these shifts all day
long. For instance, at any given time in the day one of your
nostrils is more open than the other. This is not a hypothesis;
it is something you can see for yourself. There are moments
when both nostrils are pulling through equal amounts of air,
but this is only during the short time when the equilibrium of
the breathing is being shifted from one nostril to the other. Oth-
erwise, one nostril or the other governs each moment of the
day. Certain activities are ideal depending on which nostril is
governing the air movement into and out of the body. In the
Upanishads, it is said that one should eat only when the right
nostril is open. Otherwise, the food is not digested right in its
initial stages. On the other hand, if you eat while the left nostril
is governing, the body will quickly shift to the right nostril.
Exercises for purposefully shifting the dominant nostril will be
given shortly in this course.
It is most useful to know which side of the nostrils ac-
centuates different activities.These dominant nostril exercises
help restore coordination between the two sides of the body
and the brain. You can voluntarily switch the flow of air from
one side of the nose to other, thus preparing yourself for what-
ever task is at hand. If you are about to take a test, eat, or run a
marathon, perhaps you would like to open the right nostril and
make it the dominant side for the breath to flow.
If you have trouble going to sleep, perhaps you would
benefit from opening the left nostril, which supports less active
energies in the body. One way to do this would be with nadi
shodhanam breathing exercises. Another is quite simple. If you
lie on the right side, the right nostril closes and the left opens
up. Laying on the side, with one nostril higher than the other,
triggers the erectile tissues in the lowest nostril. This is not be-
cause of gravity, as was thought for a long time. It is because
pressure on the down arm and the side of the chest trigger a
reflex that dilates the nostril that is up and closes the one that is
lower on the side where the pressure is.
All of this said, the purposeful direction of physiological re-
flexes triggered by left or right nostril dominance in the breath-
ing is not a good idea to force for more than a few hours. It is said
by yogis that it will invite disease into the body if one nostril stays
open for six or eight hours. If the breath stays on one side of the
nose for a day or more, the possibility for disease is quite serious.
The ancient yogis documented their studies of the breath and
found that it must be related to the flow of energy (prana) and it
is important to let it run its natural course most of the time.
Humans breathe 18,000 to 20,000 times a day. This is
mostly, if not all, being done through the nose, not the mouth,
even though it requires 150% more effort to bring air into the
narrow passage of the nostrils, a literal bottleneck for the air to
pass through. This means there must be a good reason for it...
An exerpt from the Chakras & Auras Course:
(from the section on kundalini) ...First let’s talk about
kundalini, for it is a powerful force that moves through the
chakras, and affects the chakras greatly. It could be thought of
as the blood or the chi of the energetic bodies that the chakras
represent and are connected to. Many texts consider kundalini

to be the circulatory system of the etheric body, the same way
that the blood is the circulatory system of the physical body.
The root chakra, located at the bottom of the spine, is
where the kundalini energy resides, according to most teach-
ings. Kundalini is a Sanskrit word meaning “circular power.”
Other sources say that the word kundalini means “coiled.” It
is also referred to as shakti (divine spark of life-force). It is an
individual’s basic evolutionary force.
...Most Eastern literature covering the topic of kundalini
speak of three channels that are part of the kundalini system.
There are three nerve channels, called nadis, that are of par-
ticular importance in understanding kundalini: the sushumna,
the ida, and the pingala. The shushuma is the central chan-
nel that runs through and connects the seven “third dimen-
sional” chakras. The ida is the feminine channel which starts
at the base of the spine and ends in the left nasal passage. It
travels in a curving criss-cross pathway through the chakras,
but resides primarily along the left side of the spinal column.
The pingala is the masculine nerve channel, extending up-
ward from the base of the spine and ending in the right nasal
passage. It criss-crosses through the chakras, but primarily is
located along the right side of the spine. The ida and pingala
represent the opposite poles of the same energy. The ideal is
to balance the energy in the ida and pingala, thus activating
the central channel, the sushumna.
The nadis of one layer of the aura are connected to
the other layers of the aura through the chakras. Ancient Ti-
betan texts, and some Eastern Indian texts, mention 72,000
nadis, while others proclaim 350,000. In Chinese and Japa-
nese literature, these same channels are called meridians...
An excerpt from Divination Systems Course:
...Prophetic revelation, or Divination, dates back to the
earliest known times of human existence. The oldest of all
Chinese texts, the I Ching, is a divination system older than
recorded history. James Legge says in his translation of I Ch-
ing: Book Of Changes (1996), “The desire to seek answers
and to predict the future is as old as civilization itself.” Man-
kind has always had a desire to know what the future holds.
Evidence shows that methods of divination, also known as
fortune telling, were used by the ancient Egyptians, Chinese,
Babylonians and the Sumerians (who resided in what is now
Iraq) as early as six-thousand years ago.
Divination was originally a device of royalty and has
often been an essential part of religion and medicine.
Significant leaders and royalty often employed priests,
doctors, soothsayers and astrologers as advisers and
consultants on what the future held. Every civilization
has held a belief in at least some type of divination.
The point of divination in the ancient world was to as-
certain the will of the gods. In fact, divination is so called
because it is assumed to be of the divine, a gift from the
gods. This gift of obtaining knowledge of the unknown
uses a wide range of tools and an enormous variety of
techniques, as we will see in this course. No matter which
method is used, the most imperative aspect is the interpre-
tation and presentation of what is seen.
The general consensus is that divination falls into
three categories: interpretation of natural phenomena,
(known as augury and includes such things as water,
flight of a bird, shape of a flame, cloud formations, etc.);
interpretation of artificial phenomena (casting runes,
reading dominoes, Tarot Cards, numerology); and direct
communication with a deity via dreams, visions or tranc-
es. These interpretations may not only foretell the future,
but can also be used in determining a person’s character
and how it has been created by events of the past...

First and foremost, you must
decide whether or not UMS offers
the courses of study you need for
what it is you would like to do. Ask
yourself what it is you plan on doing
with your degree in the future. For
instance, if you want to become a
certified yoga instructor, a massage
therapist, psychologist or a doctor,
UMS will not be the right school
