ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION

The above table represents the companies that wanted to increase their capital by issuing IPO’s.
All the prices were listed under Bombay Stock Exchange and were last updated on July 30 at
15:38 PM.

We can see that during the whole year of 2008 not a single company that issued an IPO
gave a decent a rate of return i.e. every company that issued an IPO gave a negative rate of
return; even Reliance Power with a size of Rs. 26 crores gave a loss of around 64 %. Only a few
companies i.e. Aries Agro, BGR energy, J Kumar Infra Projects, V-Guard Industries, Kiri Dyes
and Chemicals, Bafna Pharmacy and Alkali Metals gave a handsome return. This was due to the
crash in the financial market, which we call it as recession.

As the market was slowly recovering so were the companies and their returns. In the year
2009 we can see that very few companies issued IPO’s in the market. The 1st IPO was issued in
the month of March by Edserv Soft Systems with a price of Rs.199.35 which gave a huge and
unexpected gain of about 232.25. This was big for the company and the market which was
recovering slowly. Next from the month of June till December there was an issue of IPO’s from
some major organizations like Oil India, Jindal Cotex, Den Networks, Cox & Kings. These
major organizations did good and gave a very good return. During the months of August,
September and October 3 to 4 firms issued IPO’s.
 By the end of 2009 the market had already recovered from recession. It was starting to
show its true colors. Every company that issued an IPO gave a very good return for itself and to
its investors. Leaving a few the rests gave their best.

A very notable feature from the above IPO’s is that during 2008 whichever company
issued their IPO at 1 digit their volumes was high but the companies whose prices were high
their volumes were low. We can also see an increase and decrease in volumes even when the
prices are in 3 digits vary accordingly.

Now as the condition of market was changing slowly so were the prices, volumes, and
rate of returns. Still there were firms that issued IPO’s whose prices were in 2 digit and their
volumes high like the NHPC and India Bulls Power.

Gradually in 2010 the scenario was totally different, there was a rise in volumes that
were also high in prices i.e.3 digits were moving around which were high in volumes as
compared to 2 and 1 digits in 2008 and 2009.

For instance ARSS Infrastructure Projects which issued its IPO at a price of Rs. 1316.70 had a
volume of 7, 77, 849. Like wise all other companies that were high in prices were also very high
in volumes.
