The ECAlvlsystemis snch that it allowsthe activationof proper warningsonly

when necessary.Forthe takeoff phase, mosl of the warningsare inhibitedfrom 70 kl

b. Below 100 kt

For any ECA[,]warningactivationbefore reaching70 kt, il is recommendedto

abandonthe take otf. Such a decisionshould not be consideredas an acceleration
stop. Between70 kt and 100kt, the decisionto reiectthe take off may be takenat the
discretionof the Captainaccordingto circumstances. Thoughwe cannot list all the
causes here are a few ones :

- Flightcontroljamming

- ECAtvlwarningswhichare not inhibiledabove 70 kt :

C. GENERAL

On modern jet aircraftavailablepower and the need for consistencybetweenstall and

windshearmanoeuvres, leadto a diflerenttechniquethan the one usedon lightaircraft.

Thekey factoris that,at slickshakeractivation,

evenwith reducedliftmargins,an aircraft
stillhas positiveperformance capability.
So,insteadof tryingto recoverin minimumtime
by powerapplication andpitchdown, thetechnique now recommended is for a minimum
lossof attitudeby powerapplicaiionand llyingoptimumpitch.

D. OPEMTIONALBACKGROUND

a. General

VS is definedas the minimumsteadyflightspeeddemonstratedat an entry rate of

1 kt per second,at zerothrust.

Stallwarningis considered by the pilot,either

to be any warningreadilyindentifiable
artificial(stickshaker)or natural(buffet).

Recoveryfrom an approachto stallwillbe initiatedat the earliestrecognizable

stall
warningindication.

b. Stall chancteristics

ln cleanand 15/0configurations,
the $all is identifiedby heavyand irregularbuffer.

To preventexcessivec with flaps selectedto 15" and beyond, the Feel Limitation

Computer (FLC) doublesthe lorce requiredfor any given stick displacementand
henceto movethe slick fonvardto the neutralelevationposition. The resultingpitch
down providesartificialstallidentification.

AUTOFLIGHTSYSTEM

Before starting an approach to stall recovery, exercise,ATS will be disarmed to avoid fiR

L engagement.
When go leversare triggered, they normallyengageGO AROUNDmode, and reset the FD
bars even if the FPVwas used. ln the cleanconfigurationhowever, this does not occur ; only
THR L would engageif ATS has not been disarmed.
In go around mode,FD bars command the FCU selectedspeed+ 10 Kt, (limitedto 18'pitch)
maximum or 100 fUmn minimum. Thesecommandsare not optimumfor stall or windshear
recovery. So, go leverswill be activated only for consistencywith the g.oaround manoeuvre.

DUTCH ROLL

At maximumor highaltitudeswith no yaw dampersengaged, all versionsof the A310and

A300/600 exhibitsafehandlingcharacteristics. In the eventof any disturbance in yaw the
resulting dutch roll,if no actionis taken, will slowlydamp itselfout.
Theamplitudeof the dutch roll and the rateof dampingwill be dependanton the altitude
versusthe aircraftweight(ultimately angleof attack),the centreof gravityand the magnitude
of the initialdisturbance.
Withthe 4310/300and A300/600Raircraft,it is possible, with the use of the trim tank to
optimisecruiseCG,to be at maximumaltitudewith an aft CG (38.5% for A310/300). This
combination providesthe worst conditionsfor natural(withoutyaw damper)dutch roll
damping.
For the A310and A300/600, the followingprocedures for flightwithoutyaw dampersare
recommended.

WTH NO YAW DAMPERS
