This guide is to assist with the configuration of your 3Com wireless router to
work with Irish Broadband’s Breeze broadband service.

1.1 Configure your PC for a Dynamic IP Address

Before setting up your Router, set your Network Adapter to use DHCP (Obtain
IP address automatically). As your 3Com router is also a DHCP server it will
give you an address automatically.

Windows XP

1. From the Windows Start Menu select settings > control Panel

2. Click on Network Connections Icon

3. Under the LAN or High Speed Connection title double click the icon
named Local Area Connection. Click on the Properties button.

4. Select Internet Protocol TCP/IP and click on properties

5. Ensure that the options Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain

DNS servers automatically are both selected.

6. Click OK

Windows 2000

1. From the Windows Start Menu select Settings > Control Panel
2. Double Click Network and Dial-up Connection
3. Double click on Local Area Connection
4. Click on Properties
5. Select Internet Protocol TCP/IP and click on Properties
6. Ensure that the options obtain an IP address automatically, and Obtain
DNS server automatically are both selected.
7. Click on OK.

1.2 Basic Router Set Up

1. Plug the power supply into the Router.

2. Connect the Ethernet cable supplied into the LAN port of your PC and
into one of the 4 LAN ports on your Router (Do not connect it into the
port marked Cable/DSL).

3. Open your Web Browser and in the URL address field type in
192.168.1.1

4. Login to the router using the default password admin.

5. The Wizard will attempt to launch automatically. If your browser blocks

this simply click on the Wizard tab.

6. First the Wizard will ask you to select a new password. Please select a
password that you will remember.

7. Then you will be asked to select a Time Zone. Select GMT

8. You will be next asked to select how your IP address is supplied. If you
are an Irish Broadband Breeze customer, select ISP has provided a
static IP address.

9. Add the following information:

IP address
Subnet Mask
ISP Gateway
Primary DNS

Secondary DNS

This information has been provided on the installation booklet that came
with your Irish Broadband connection.
If you do not have this information please call Irish Broadband customer
support or e-mail support@irishbroadband.ie.

10. In the Host Name field confirm the Default option i.e. leave it Blank

11. In the Clone MAC address field Select the Default Option NO

12. In LAN setting confirm the Default option by selecting Next

13. In the DHCP server field confirm the default option by selecting Next

14. In Wireless setting select set Channel to “Clear Channel Select”.

Alternatively you can set up your router on another channel if you want.
Service Area Name can be set to any name you wish, or left to default
“3Com”.

15. The next screen will give you a summary of your settings. Select
Finish and your router is configured.

2. Enabling Your Firewall

You should enable your firewall to protect your PC or network from unwanted
intrusion.

To enable your “Stateful Packet Inspection” Firewall you.

1. Select the Firewall Option listed on the left hand side of the screen
2. Select the SPI Tab

3. Select and mark the box labelled Enable SPI and Anti-DoS firewall
protection
4. Click the Apply button and the firewall is now enabled.

3. Enabling Wireless Encryption

Enable wireless encryption to preserve the privacy of your wireless
transmissions.

1. Select the Wireless Settings Tab on the left hand side of the screen
2. Select the Encryption Tab
3. Select the type of encryption you want to use. It is recommended to
use WPA security.

4. In the WPA tab select Pre-shared Passphrase

5. Enter an 8 – 63 Character pass phrase and click Apply.
6. Make sure you configure the Wireless network adapter with the same
pass phrase.

NOTE: When you enable wireless encryption please ensure the same
pass phrase is configured on the Router and on your wireless card.
