Statement of Purpose

As a student I was always fascinated by the logic oriented subjects. In my

childhood I was keen to know the working principle of T.V, remote sensors,
controlling of satellites from earth, cryogenic systems used to launch the
satellites etc. It was amazing to know the working of computers and other
hardware used in detecting and analyzing systems, in the field of medicine,
in automobiles & entertainment systems etc.

As a student of the St. Joseph’s School I won the ‘’Best Boy’’ award in 7th
standard, secured the 1st place in 7th standard Public Board exams with 93%
marks, stood 1st to the school with 93% marks in the 10th standard State
board exams school. These small achievements during my school days made
me realize my potential and this prepared me to face tougher challenges
ahead in my career. During my school days I spent most of my spare time
visiting my father’s office in the Instrumentation Department of the famous
Karnataka University, Dharwad. The sophisticated instruments in the
department caught my imagination and I used to try and understand their
working principles. The various electronic components and the computer
analysis that was carried out always dragged me to visit that place. These
experiences motivated me to study the underlying concepts and choose
Electronics and Communication as the main stream for my Undergraduate
studies.

One of the major achievements at the Pre-University College level was my

selection for the State level in International Mathematics Olympiad, on
clearing the Regional Mathematics Olympiad. I was one of the 15-20
candidates chosen from the State of Karnataka and was also a part of the
training program held at the prestigious Indian Institute of Science,
Bangalore, which helped us prepare for the National level Mathematics
Olympiad. This was a dream come true to me, to visit the IISC, Bangalore as
part of the training program. This was an experience that made me realize
the level of competition existing in the world. I also used to spend a lot of
time in the college laboratories, where different researchers and people
pursuing PhDs used to conduct various experiments. Interaction with such
people motivated me to pursue higher studies and research later in my
career.

After securing 127th rank in the State level Common Entrance Test (CET) I
enrolled myself in the Electronics & Communication department of the
prestigious BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore. During my
Undergraduate studies I developed interest in the subjects like analog and
digital communication, signal processing, microcontrollers and
microprocessor, VLSI design etc. In the software domain I was fortunate to
have studied C, C++, Matlab, VHDL and Verilog, and Cadence with sufficient
depth and I have also become adept in them. I always aimed to have
interactions with eminent scholars, professors and researchers in the field of
electronics through seminars and workshops. I participated in the three day
seminar, Pratyaksha-08 organized by the IEEE-MSRIT, Bangalore in
September 2008, as a delegate. I also attended a three day
seminar/workshop on ‘’Analog & Mixed Mode IC Design: A Practical
Approach” organized by MSRSAS, Bangalore in March-2009. Through these
seminars I was able to interact with experts in the field of electronics and
communication and acquire insight into the changing world of electronics.
Being an active student member of IEEE, I have always kept myself informed
about the latest happenings in the field of technology. Magazines like The
Spectrum have always been a part of my reading library. Whenever possible
I have tried to interact with experts in the field of electronics as a member of
IEEE.

To fulfill my thirst for knowledge and implement my ideas I felt a need to

deepen my understanding of the various electronics concepts acquired at
the Undergraduate level. Thus, pursing higher studies in institutions with the
best laboratory facilities and experienced faculty has been of prime
importance as a future career plan. The United States of America has always
been considered as the place of inventions and technological developments.
It has cemented its place on the globe as the best place to acquire
knowledge in the technological field. This University is one of the premier
institutions where I can fulfill all my dreams as a bona fide student of the
Institution. I have learnt that the laboratory facilities, teaching facilities and
graduate programs offered by this University are excellent and very
productive. The Graduate programs and research facilities provided by this
University are of the highest quality and provide me with an opportunity, not
only to enhance my skills but also to contribute to the growing technology
and bring name and fame to this Institution. As a student I will explore all
available facilities including interaction with the faculty to improve my
academic knowledge. My stay in the campus of this institution will help me to
spread the scientific and research culture of the University in the arena of
my work place / research institutions, after procuring the highest degree
from your institution. I will make the institution to feel proud that I was the
alumni of this prestigious Institution.
