READING COMPREHENSION SKILLS

Read the following text carefully.

Sweets and crisps for breakfast

Doctors in Britain are worried because 25% of
British teenagers eat crisps and sweets for breakfast. Most
teenagers don’t eat enough fruit or vegetables and more
than one billion British school children are overweight.
Some teenagers say that they don’t have time to
eat good food for breakfast but teenagers who have a
poor diet often have health problems when they become
adults.

Weight problems are increasing. In 1996 about 5 per cent

of children were overweight. In the year 2000, 10 per cent of
children were obese and 20 per cent or more were over their
ideal weight. Most doctors blame the problem on too much fast
food, computer games and TV.
Now doctors are giving books and games to schools to
teach students about a good diet and some schools have
nutrition lessons, activities (in the morning and after lunch) in
order to fight the problem. Extreme 9, Inglês - 9.º ano - nível 5, Porto Editora
