News
The Mecosta County 4-H program
has officially begun another year! Events
and activities are already on the calen-
dar and the Tamarack Town & Country
Club is holding monthly meetings. We
want to encourage kids (ages 4-19 years)
and parents to become involved and join
our membership. Our particular club has
been active for 30 years and was designed
to bring rural families together and show
their support through several agricultural
and community service projects. The final
results of these projects are presented at
Fair for judging. This past year at Fair,
Tamarack club members were represent-
ed in every age category and almost ev-
ery project area. Many were awarded top
placing ribbons and earned a fair price
at the livestock auction for their market
projects. We are proud of our 30 year ex-
ample of community services, education-

Michigan Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm has proclaimed October as

“Michigan Car-Deer Crash Safety Awareness Month.”
In Michigan in 2009 there were 61,486 reported car-deer crashes with 10 motorists killed and 1,648
injured. About 80 percent of all car-deer crashes take place on two-lane roads between dusk and dawn.
(Of the reported car-deer accidents Kent County is number one and Montcalm County is number five in
the state’s highest accident rate).
What can you do?
• Stay aware, awake, alert, and sober.
• Remember, safety belts are your best defense in any collision.
• Be alert for deer in spring and fall, especially at dawn and dusk.
• Heed deer crossing and speed limit signs, particularly on two-lane roads.
If a crash is unavoidable:
• Don’t swerve!
• Brake firmly
• Hold on to the steering wheel.
• Stay in your lane.
• Bring you vehicle to a controlled stop.
We at Hill’s Body Shop have noticed an increase in deer hits in the month of October through December
and a big surge directly after the time change, because more people are still on the road at sunset.
If you have had the misfortune of hitting a deer, Hill’s Body Shop, Inc. is here to help restore your ve-
hicle to its pre-accident condition. Your insurance company may refer you to one of their “preferred”
repair facilities. These body shops have an agreement with your insurance company to keep down the
cost of your vehicle repair in exchange for referrals. We believe it’s not in your best interest to take
your vehicle to these contracted repair shops. We believe safety and quality should come before cost,
whereas these “preferred” shops seem to put cost before quality and safety. We believe it to be unethical
to cheapen your vehicle repair to save your insurance company money. You’re our customer, not your
insurance company’s. Hill’s Body Shop, Inc. has always and will always provide the finest repairs avail-
able regardless of DRP contracts.
For more information about what you can do to avoid a car-deer accident and what to do if you do have
a car-deer accident, please visit our website http://www.hillsbodyshop.com/

To all you great Deer Hunters! Just a few field tips for your trophy
Buck. If it’s not below 32 degrees you need to cape your deer as soon
as possible, no more than one day. Three days if it is. Cut around the
deer behind the shoulders, cut the front legs off just above the knees
and skin the deer up to the head and cut off. Put in plastic bag and
freeze it or take to your taxidermist. I will be happy to do it for you if
you bring it to me. Good Luck, and safe hunting. ~ Steve Pritchard

Mind Coaching for Perfect Health All types of household batteries will be accepted
In 1983 I took a relaxation /stress control class. Before taking that class, I did not really know how much stress I carried in
my body. I did not know that it was not normal to feel pressure in your chest all the time or to feel a low level of anxiety all
the time. Once I learned to use the mental training exercises my high blood pressure and ulcers got better and I felt really
(For example: Alkaline, nickel, cadmium, cell
good. phone, and button batteries)
This began a life-long quest to study how the mind can influence the body. Since then I have studied many forms
of relaxation, stress management, and alternative healing techniques. For a few years I worked with cancer patients NO lead acid automotive batteries.
doing something I called “Cancer Therapy Coaching”. We used mental training exercises, guided imagery, Neurolinguistic
Programming, and prayer to improve the outcome of chemotherapy, reduce side effects, eliminate fear, and reduce pain. For questions please contact MSU Extension office at
This was very successful, but very time consuming and after a while I had to stop doing that. I promised myself that someday
I would record a CD that could be used for stress control, help with anxiety, improve physical healing, and assist cancer 989-831-7500
patients in all aspects of their therapy. Attendants will also be on site.
Well, that day has arrived. I spent several months writing scripts for the introduction and five mental training exercises.
Then time was spent in the recording studio with Gary and Ann Wakenhut at the Collecting Consort to make the actual Howard City: 2nd Tuesday of Lakeview: 4th Wednesday of
recordings. And finally, working with an Artist, we packaged this in an attractive way.
There are two versions to this material. Some people, when they face life’s challenges, feel a reliance upon God. So, we the month 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. the month - 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
have prepared a Christian version which makes reference to God and Jesus throughout the Mental Training Exercises. Many & 4th Saturday of the month High School Parking Lot,
other people do not share that view, so “Coaching for Perfect Health” was created without the religious language. Use
which ever version fits your needs at this time in your life. We believe there is no right or wrong 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. - Fire Station/ 9800 N. Youngman Road.
in these matters, just different ways of doing things. I want all people to be able to benefit and Village Offices, 125 East Shaw
both styles have had proven results.
I really want to emphasize the word Coaching. Most of the time with serious illnesses, it is
our emotional human limitations that keep us from accepting the perfect health we deserve.
The person with the health issue has to do all the work to change their thinking to get a better
outcome. But many times they do not know what to do or how to do it. Instead of years of
study, trial, and error, anyone can simply benefit from my expertise to get the results they
desire.
So, Coaching for Perfect Health and Christian Coaching for Perfect Health are currently
available at the Healing Center or “cdbaby.com”. Pay Attention, Mind Coaching for Kids and
Teens, and Fit, Clean, and Sober, Mind Coaching for Recovery from Addictions are coming
soon. Recycling brochure can be found at the MSU Extension website:
