A Brief Comment

Teatro alla Scala

Content:

• Schedule: description of the days that is happening some activity in the theatre grouped by type
of activity. Those activities are divided into season 2009/10 and 2010/11.
• Selling Area: describe how, where, when the general public can buy all types of tickets to the
theatre. There is a link to an extern web site to buy the ticket on line. There is some information
to help you choose the type of ticket you will buy.
• Description of the Theatre: description of the physical area, history and the group of artistes of
the theatre. There is an area of technical description of the administrative sector of the theatre.
• Description of the museum oh the theatre: at the theatre exists one museum about theatre that
exposes a diverse collection of objects related to theatre, and there is a description of each part
of this museum, and general and administrative information about it.
• Description of the Workshop: the theatre carries out some workshops where you can go to the
backstage. There is one description for each pavilion of the theatre and a description of what
you can do at the guided tour into this pavilion too.
• General Information: location of the several parts (including the administrative parts) of the
theatre. Information about extra activities, cultural promotions and info for companies.

Structure: It is divided into 6 different areas (main menu). Each one is divided into more or less 4 sub-
areas that are all different. But these sub-areas may be divided into some parts and these parts may be
the same as parts of other items.

Each one of these areas has one item of the content and the sub areas are divided as described before.

Interface: There is an image on the top with the main menu. On the left there is a secondary menu that
changes when you move into another main item. The content is positioned at the center with tests and
images. A login box is placed under this secondary menu. At the bottle there is the copyright.

Interaction-Multimedia: a multimedia interaction is a 3D map of the theatre where you can get
information about the different locations, what it is, what is happening there. Put the mouse at the
room and a name came up, you can click to open its description.

Content:

• Description of the Theatre: there is the history of the theatre (how it was in the beginning, the
transformation and now a day). Describe the administrative and the staff group, the technical
area and the partners. There is a link for the web site of the orchestra and the chorus that uses
this theatre.
• Schedule: describe schedules of the activities that are happening in this season. It is divided by
type of activity.
• Selling Area: it is possible to buy the ticket on line. You can find the information about all the
type of tickets, the cost, how to pay and about the structure that this theatre offers.
• Promotion area: this area is dedicated to promote the theatre, projects to stimulate and teach
people to go to the theatre. Information about the theatre school is divulgated here.
• Data Base: in this area you can find descriptions of old activities that happened in this theatre,
you can see pictures and movies (it wasn’t working).
• Contact: in this area there is information about the theatre (address, telephone), and a area to
send a message direct to the theatre.

Structure: It is divided into 6 different areas. This areas era divided into more or less 4 sub-areas. Some
of these sub-areas are divided into more specific areas. The relation of the structure and the content is
almost the same as at the first web site analysed.

Interface: beginning from the top there is the logo on the left side and a search engine on the right side.
Under this there is the menu, and under it there is an image show, 8 images that alter and each one is a
link to some activity that is currently happening at the theatre.

Under this publicity on the left side there is a sub menu of the area that you are into, under this a
multimedia interactive calendar, a button to inscribe yourself to receive newsletters and links to the
profile of the theatre at social networks.

The right side of all this is dedicated to the actual content, texts, images, links described before.

Interaction-Multimedia: the calendar is a good multimedia interaction. When the mouse is positioned
on a specific day a note came up to show to the guest what will happen that day, and then he can click
to buy a ticket.
A Brief Comparison

The two web sites have the basic areas, schedule, description of the theatre and selling
area more or less equals. But they have different areas dedicated because they have different
activities.

The ‘teatro alla scala’ web site has more content because it is a bigger theatre with a
museum. It has multimedia interactions that allow you to know better and faster the theatre,
and keep the attention of the user. But both have tests too long to describe the history of the
theatre.

The calendar created in the ‘teatro sociale Como’ web site is a good and fast way to
show the user the schedule and provide a way to directly access the selling area of the specific
activity. At the ‘teatro alla scala’ the user has to find the activity and then click to buy.

The activities that have already happened are a good way to know the theatre. At the
‘teatro sociale Como’ web site (if it was working properly) there is a data base of these activities,
instead of being all together into the schedule as at the ‘teatro alla scala’ web site.

The contact information always should be highlighted because there are a lot of people
that like to talk to a real person to buy the ticket. At the ‘teatro alla scala’ web site the user can
find this information quicker, and it motivate him to continue to use the site.

At the ‘teatro alla scala’ web site all areas, topics at the main menu have a initial
description before the user enter some sub item, and this could help this user to find what he
wants. This does not happen at the ‘teatro alla scala’ web site.

At both web site the user can access the selling area form several sectors of the site.

All this things, that help the user to quickly find what he wants at the web site, are the
keys to have a successful business at the internet.
