Genchi Gembutsu - Putting Managers "On the Spot"
Toyota's managing concept Genchi Gembutsu roughly means going to the place where the problem
is occurring in order to deal with the real situation. Instead of the more typical practice of making decisions
from a distance, Toyota managers go directly to the scene of a problem to get a first‐hand impression of
the challenge. They also do this to engage the people working directly in the area in order to build
teamwork, coach, and to act as role models. This process ‐ while vital in and of itself ‐ also plays a major
role in reinforcing Toyota's learning organization, since it mandates that teams deal directly with verifiable
facts and ensures that the frontline workers are actively involved in resolving the problem and that they
buy in to the chosen solution.
As a part of my assignment in this I had personally gone and stand in the shop floor to understand
the problem and solved some of the problems, which I had given here with.

Activity-1
Problem: In‐Consistence of Rubber Compound quality, Extrusion department always complaining that
sometimes compound found very hard and sometimes very soft (too much swelling will
come during extrusion‐Dimensional stability unable to meet)
Observed: 1. Manual Weighing of Process oil with the marking in the plastic mug,
2. Incoming oil quality changes for each lot, sometimes thinner and sometimes thicker.
Solution: Electronic Hanging type weighing scale installed instead of manual
Weighing, now irrespective of thin, thick of oil, constant quantity of oil will be used for
each batch.
